Title: Perfect Games
Post by: Jim Dixon on March 29, 2009, 12:05:05 AM
Senior pitcher/outfielder John Lunardi from Exton, Pa. pitched a perfect game 1, literally, as Susquehanna swept visiting Drew , 9-0, 12-5, in a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Harold Bollinger Field on March 28. This was the fourteenth perfect game in D-III and the first since April 21, 2007 when Tim Kiely pitched a perfect game against the Tufts Jumbos.

I have to find my list of some others.  I am not sure I know about all 14 perfect games.

34 years of D-III baseball and 14 Perfect games means there should be one every 2-3 years.

I will count Bill Verbrick as #11.

Dan Roberge (http://www.rwuhawks.com/news/2008/3/30/base_wentworth_08.aspx?path=baseball), Roger Williams vs. Wentworth (7 IP) (http://www.rwuhawks.com/custompages/baseball/stats/2008/rwu15.htm), March 30, 2008.
Cody Flynn (http://www.edgewoodcollegeeagles.com/news/2006/5/6/1967567.aspx?path=baseball), Edgewood vs. Maranatha Baptist (7 IP) (http://www.edgewoodcollegeeagles.com/custompages/Statistics/baseball/2006/05061bb.htm), May 6, 2006.

'99 (1)
'01 (1)
'02 (2, Verbrick and?)
'04 (2)

'08 (1, Roberge)
'09 (1, Lunardi)

I forgot about Roberge's perfect game.  That makes 15 or is it 13?

I took the figure of 13 from the 2007 Kiely release.  Record keeping as I know is spotty at best so the record book may not be correct so there still could be two missing perfect games.

From the Centennial Conference Record Book:

Adam Huron, Haverford (6) vs. Hiram (0), March 8, 2004 (7 innings, perfect game)

Too bad the D-III record book doesn't list them all like they do in the D-I and D-II books. All they have are occurances by year. At least that's all I could find. The recent record books do list the perfect games from the previous year, but you already know those.

Perhaps whoever wrote the '07 Trinity release could shed some light because that number doesn't match the NCAA total. Maybe that SID – if he or she is the still at Trinity – knows more than the NCAA. At the D-III level, that wouldn't surprise me.

Glad I wasn't the only one to notice that. Didn't know the exact years but seemed like it had happened a few times.
