Should be a big crowd this year...Cortland alumni already received word that they should be prepared to participate in OBS...or "Occupy Butterfield Stadium"...

This might be the biggest turn out for a Cortaca game ever...

Being lazy as I'm sure it's posted somewhere but what, when and where was the biggest attendence for Cortaca to date?

I'll be rooting for the Bombers, mostly for the off chance that Alfred could host an ECAC bowl and save me from travelling.  But as a peace offering for the Red Dragon fans out there I present report cards for both schools from the American Council of Trustees and Alumni:

Ithaca College (http://www.whatwilltheylearn.com/schools/3010) vs. SUNY Cortland (http://www.whatwilltheylearn.com/schools/3018)

I so felt that this was a set up to a Cortland joke.  Cortland learning: Kickball rules, how to properly wear a jock etc.  Thanks for taking the high road.  Quite sure this board will get to the low road soon enough!

I am looking forward to the game.  Despite Ithaca's poor performance thus far, all bets are off when it comes to Cortaca.  Don't care if their record was 0-9 it's always a great game with both teams battling for the jug.  Early forecast looks good weather wise too.

Is that 366?  The high road would seem a faster route to Butterfield...

12,000 and change at the 2001 game. I believe they are now trying to limit the number closer to 10,000. The stadium only holds 5,000, so there's a breaking point somewhere in there

Let the good times roll.... Pep has yet to attend a Cortaca but can only imagine it's something like Hot Dog Day excepting there's a football game going on in the midst of all the inebriates.

As for Saterday, Pep is exited to be at the Alfica.

I wondered how long it would take before an Ithaca poster would add that to the mix!

I'm a neutral outsider, but am proud to have contributed something to the levity.

Realize you are likely mimicking the request for a Cortaca board but if you are attempting to color a response to the condition of Butterfield, you will only need earth tone colored crayons to color in the dirt, rocks and mud.

I haven't exactly been hearing original insults coming from your side of the fence, ace. It's not like making fun of a 4-5 team for being 4-5 is breaking new ground.

Fashionably late to the party, I was well aware that I could start a thread but if I remember correctly I thought Pat had to unlock one or something.  Who cares though and the thread is open, let the smack talking begin.  A slow couple of pages as Ithaca fans recycle their kickball jokes and Cortland fans have pointed out the fact that "Ithaca Sucks" at 4-5 which is more of a fact than a joke.

Anyone see the story of this high and mightly Ithaca professor e-mailing the faculty to re-arrange their syllabus to make all assignments due on Monday?

http://theithacan.org/17481/ (http://theithacan.org/17481/)

While I agree that CORTACA needs some changes to shift a little more away from partying and a little more on the game, this is absurd.

Message to Nancy Reynolds, while you may think your much better than those from Cortland your still the second best college in your own town.

Now, now, they only forfeited the WINS. The losses, like the one we stuck them with, remain for all eternity.

True story, Cortland's 3 NCAA wins since 1999 have come vs NEFC opponents...

Way to beat up on the JV squad red dragons...
How that game against Curry in the first round work out for Ithaca in 2008?  Must really suck to lose to the JV.

I'll take reading comprehension for 100 Alex...
My typo aside, are you going to respond to why you lost to the JV in 2008 or just deflect the question?

I'll take reading comprehension for 1,000 Alex...

So if you knew I was a SJF fan why were you asking me how losing to Curry felt then?

As you have chosen to post comments on a board that's all about Cortland/Ithaca and are clearly Ithaca inclined, I made the assumption you would get that "you" meant Ithaca.  If that was not clear then two things are apparent.  Thinking is a stretch for you and you must have been OL.  When I respond to you directly I will be sure to be very specific otherwise try to keep up.

Oh man you were playing with one backup? Clearly the NCAA should have postponed the game until he was healthy.  You talked so much trash that year about Curry that you would think you should have beat them with the team manager playing QB. Don't go back and make excuses after the fact. Also we beat you with our 4th stringer a few years ago.

If I recall correctly, we beat you with our 4th string QB.

What the heck, I will take the bait.  Can you please explain to me how moving in with your parents for financial support would be any different than having Mommy and Daddy pay for your education?

Also, your creative sense of humor is off the charts.  Listening to you recycle the same tired joke all week is going to be a real pleasure.

A simple cut and paste error (which I am sure will inspire a million very funny "Cortland grad can't use a computer" jokes) but maybe the point that they lost to a 4th string QB should be driven home by being stated several times.

No excuses.  Ithaca beat #7 Cortland with a backup quarterback making his first start in Cortland.  They lost to Curry with the same quarterback.  Those are facts my friend, not excuses.

Don't you guys have another season to forfeit or something?

Repetitive responses about all you can muster?  That SJF diploma did wonders for you.

I'll bite.

Because Ithaca had their JV quarterback playing against Curry that game? (starter Juvan was hurt).

Oh wait, that JV quarterback also beat Cortland 35-13.

No excuses.  Ithaca beat #7 Cortland with a backup quarterback making his first start in Cortland.  They lost to Curry with the same quarterback.  Those are facts my friend, not excuses.
Yes those are facts but the excuse might be the comment, "Because Ithaca had their JV quarterback playing against Curry that game? (starter Juvan was hurt)."  That's an excuse my friend, and to be clear, a fact too.

So let me get this straight...

You assumed I was an Ithaca guy, Max says otherwise, you then make two more posts linking me to Ithaca and I'm the one that needs to keep up???

Interesting you ask as I don't recall anyone on this board making an excuse for Cortlands loss that year and I hope not to see one. Seeing as you like facts, you seem to be the only one that tossed out an excuse for Ithaca's loss to Curry.  That's a fact my friend.

So let me get this straight...

You assumed I was an Ithaca guy, Max says otherwise, you then make two more posts linking me to Ithaca and I'm the one that needs to keep up???
Lets try again. I didn't link you to Ithaca. You "linked yourself" to Ithaca by choosing to post pro-Ithaca comments on a Cortaca board.

His comments were more anti-Cortland in nature than pro-Ithaca. While you may view this board as an either-or environment, attempting to impart that view to determine who someone else is "linked to" seems to me to be a bad practice. Timeforachange is a complex guy, not nearly as dichotomous as you've made him out to be here.

It's very interesting to me that Cortland fans, despite saying Ithaca fans live in the past, have wasted a number of posts on Ithaca's 2008 postseason. What's worse is, it's not even a past they had a role in.

At least, if we were so inclined, we could bring up single-handedly ending the best season in Cortland football history. And in the ultimate twist, that game was played at Ithaca in large part because Cortland's facilities were so sub-par at the time.

I for one was simply responding to a post that said Cortlands only wins in the playoffs since 1999 were against NEFC teams. A comment about the past.

And interesting that you go right back to the past after questioning why Cortland is wasting posts on the past.

You Bomber fans sure like to live in the past.  Butterfield looks like it did in 1958.  Quoting the last 35 years which has nothing to do with this years pitiful results and now the last three posts.  It's Tuesday and you are already pulling out the same old tired kickball comments/pictures. Booga Booga.

Don't you guys have another season to forfeit or something?

Repetitive responses about all you can muster?  That SJF diploma did wonders for you.

I'll bite.

Because Ithaca had their JV quarterback playing against Curry that game? (starter Juvan was hurt).

Oh wait, that JV quarterback also beat Cortland 35-13.

What was Cortland excuse for getting the crap kicked out of them by Ithaca that year?

I honestly think Ithaca would have been better off with Juvan against Curry.  That kid impressed me against Mt. Union the year before and had some playoff magic.

Excuse, fact, opinion, you can call it whatever you want.  Ithaca smoked Cortland that year, and Cortland smoked Curry, and Ithaca lost to Curry.

I love this pyramid of comments and wanted to add to it.  (Sorry, I'm easily amused, it's that state education).

Here is a little talk about the actual game.

Cortland offense averaging 37.9 PPG.
Ithaca Defense averaging 18.7 PPG average.

Ithaca offense averaging 20 PPG.
Cortland defense averaging 21 PPG allowed.

Ithaca's offensive and Cortland's defensive numbers look similiar. The key looks to be what Cortland will do with the ball.  Does IC have anyone who can slow Babin down? Also, I feel like there is always at least one major special teams play at CORTACA. Who has the advantage there? I am not real sold on Corrado.

Personally...I think Ithaca will keep the game close (as they have in pretty much every game all year long) but in order to win the game they will need someone on special teams to make a play.  If Cortland kicks the ball anywhere near Ruffrage...they are fools...

Well, we know that Cortland's coaching staff reads (and occasionally posts on) this board meticulously, so now I'm sure they won't. Thanks a lot Yanks.

I also think this game will be about the matchup between Ithaca's defense and Cortland's offense. Cortland may be averaging around 20 PAPG, but I don't know if they've seen a QB combo as "special" as Ithaca's yet. If more than 35 total points are scored in this game, I'm thinking Cortland wins.

Does anyone know how much film each team gets of each other?  With these new online video systems, I can only assume each team will get every game that their opponent plays.  (Since it isn't too hard to get the copy from other teams that might have friends, coaches, etc)

Sorry Max, didn't mean to take away the element of surprise on this one...but I am guessing that Cortland knows all about Ruffrage's 26.2 yards per punt return average with two TD's and 28.5 yard per kick return with one TD already.  Not to mention the several close calls.  I was stunned that Alfred even kicked to him in the 4th quarter...

Might as well toss stats out the window when it's Cortaca. Agree a big special teams play or turnover will likely be the deciding factor.

Corrado has been off for sure and it seems that the coaching staff feels the same. I say this based on some decisions to go for it on 4th down when they appear to be within his range. No doubt managing his confidence level given this decisions is critical. Kickers are a different breed of player for sure.

Ithaca, and it's not even a question mark. It's the one thing the Bombers do that gives them any hope of a win

Dan Ruffrage is averaging 26.2 yards a punt return, and 28.6 per kick return, and has three touchdowns.
Cortland's longest punt return is eleven yards, and the longest kick return by a player that's available is 36 yards.

Andrew Rogowski is 8-for-9 on FG's longer than 30 yards, with a long of 43. He's yet to miss an extra point
Corrado's longest this season is 31, and he's missed three XP's

Rogowski is averaging 38.8 yards per punt
Furey is averaging 34.9

Ithaca's coverage units are slightly better. Cortland's blocked more kicks but had more kicks blocked.

No question, Ithaca has the clear edge. Naturally, this means Cortland will win because Ruffrage will fumble the opening kickoff, Rogowski will miss three kicks, and Cortland will hit a 47-yard field goal as time expires

That doesn't surprise me really. While his teams have had meltdowns in the area, Welch has always had Ithaca ahead of the game in returns. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would ever kick to our returners. I've felt this way for years. Ruffrage, Cheir, Crandall, Gordon, Tosh. It's just playing with fire. If I'm Cortland, I'm just going for it on 4th down. It's not like the offense will score on their own...

The Hemp Store is good.  Thanks for asking RDF.  We even use punctuation there.

(I know the insults are for Monday and Tuesday and the rest of the week is for football.  But I missed the insult part.  I'll ask for some leeway.)

Welcome back JQV.  I really enjoy your signature.

"Cortland Football:  Snooki is the only thing left we can beat."

Pretty accurate except for maybe conference opponents, which isn't really something IC can say.

This might be my last post before the game (might be able to sneak one in later).    Hopefully, I will get to meet up and have a beer with some of you, since I have enjoyed talking football with a few of you over the years.   I will most likely be in a red Cortland hoodie, and a red Cortland winter hat (I know, I know, not a whole lot of help).  If so inclined, feel free to yell out a "cstate19" and I will respond.  Worst case scenario, it's not me but will still allow for you to heckle a Dragon.

Hope all have safe travels and enjoy the food, beverages and game.

Happy to hear the hemp store is doing well and keeping you busy.  Apologize for not setting off my parenthetical elements with commas in my last post.  Allow me to try again.  Ithaca football, despite having a long streak of winning seasons, really sucks this year.  You're right.  That's much better.

Repetitive responses about all you can muster?  That SJF diploma did wonders for you.

I'll bite.

Because Ithaca had their JV quarterback playing against Curry that game? (starter Juvan was hurt).

Oh wait, that JV quarterback also beat Cortland 35-13.

Hey...who knew Jimmy "Two-Times" was a Cortland grad...

I'm gonna go get the papers...get the papers...

Working in a Goodfellas reference is always worth a +k

A one-sided game in favor of Cortland. It struck me how slow the Ithaca offense was. Ruffrage is outstanding, but he is the only kid Cortland had to worry about out there. Running game was non-existent, which is shocking for an Ithaca football team. The offensive line couldn't pass block at all. 8 sacks vs 16 completions - that's pretty ugly. Ithaca needs a more athletic offensive line.

Pitcher was great for Cortland. I can't think of a game in the last several years where a Cortland QB was this efficient both passing and running. Every decision to run was the right one, and his passes were accurate as always. John Babin is a monster, and Kordel McInnis is really starting to come into his own as a freshman receiver. The loss of Pitcher will be big. But with these receivers coming back, the new QB will have some awesome targets.

It's pretty clear Cortland needs to recruit a little harder for a kicker. A missed extra point, a missed FG from extra point distance, another missed FG, and some ugly kickoffs. I'd mention the 15-yard punt, but Pete Furey has been a really solid punter (and DB) throughout his career.

Agree with Dan totally. Always nice to win but IMHO it's much more enjoyable when the game is competitive and today was not. Cortlands D line pretty much had their way with the Bombers O line. Think there were like 7 or 8 sacks and a bunch of tackles for losses.

Pitcher was outstanding.  As Dan stated, made great decisions all day and his passing was very accurate. Great game and great season for him.

Congrats to Cortland.

Forget that, I enjoyed the blowout.

Just settling in after my trip to CNY. Here are some rambling thoughts.

- Corrado was awful. He has been the entire season/his entire career.

-Pitcher was incredible.  Up 14-3 he picked up two separate first downs on third and long and fourth and long to keep a TD drive alive.  Picked up a third and long on the next TD scoring drive.

-Ithaca's O-Line got dominated.

-Ithaca driving on their first drive and they throw a INT.  Not saying they woulda won, but a TD to go up 7-0 changes the whole game.

-Lots of empty seats on the Cortland side.  The schools need to do something to get tickets into the hands of people who care about the game.

-From what I saw, the environment was very tame.  Very little cursing, no "IC ****" or "State School" (thank god), and no fights. Nice to see less of the nonsense but I was surprised.

-Great weather.

-Is this just one down year after an incredible streak for IC or a sign of things to come?

-The term "Ithaca Sucks" was about as true of a statement as I have ever heard this weekend.  A pathatic showing.

The Jug resides in Cortland for another 365 days and I am $20 richer after a bet from a foolish IC alum.

Not meant as a dig but honestly, can't Ithaca invest in a PA system that can be heard beyond 12 feet in front of  the speaker?  I've heard better systems at Dunkin Donuts drive ups than what's in use at Butterfield.  Listened to the radio broadcast but found the lack of volume and poor quality of the system in the stadium very annoying.

Agree with your comments and particularly the IC O line.  The qb got drilled by one of the Cortland D linemen on that INT.  Whomever it was deserves credit for the pick cause the qb saw it coming and rushed the throw.

Some of the knuckleheads were out for sure but you're right, far less than in the past which is a good thing.

Everything you saw in the Cortaca game was exactly what you'd have seen every week on the South Hill this season. Cortland whipped Ithaca up and down the field, but seriously, was anything that happened in that game a surprise?

1. Hendel was ineffective.

Bomber QB's finished the year 9 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Exactly what was unusual about him throwing two picks and no TD's in this game?

2. The Bombers' running game was non-existent

Aside from one 86 yard run, IC running backs had 205 carries and 721 yards on the season. Again, what was unusual about the Bombers getting nothing going in this game?

3. Ithaca's offensive line was terrible

They had allowed 24 sacks in nine games this season. Granted, eight is a ton, but anyone who's watched an Ithaca game this season (or last season) knew that they were horrid on the line.

4. Ithaca's defense wore down in the second half

Heading into Cortaca, the Bombers had allowed 60 first half points, and 105 in the second half.

Cortland did a good job keeping the ball out of Ruffrage's hands, but nothing else that occurred struck me as terribly unusual for an Ithaca game. It seemed like everything was par for the course, with the exception that Cortland, as a better team, was able to exacerbate the issues.  No one is saying Cortland didn't kick Ithaca's ***. But let's not pretend like this was a great, or even good, Bomber team. This was probably the worst team in (modern) school history. How much credit are you expecting?

I would assume injury. He didn't play against Alfred, so there's probably something there. But the Bombers' pretty much abandoned the run early anyway, so what good would he have done? There's no getting around it: Without a significant upgrade on the offensive line, who the Bombers start at RB is irrelevant. I don't see there being a Giorgio/Maddi or Donovan/Baez dichotomy in the backfield where one guy is a bigger, more powerful back and the other is more shifty and faster. Nadien and Sulla strike me as essentially the same back.

It would help if those guys could catch. Jamie Free and Dan Ross were fullbacks, but they were also great at catching passes, and Free was really good in the open field. They were legitimate options in the passing game. Free caught close to 100 passes. Ross was banged up a lot, but he finished with like eight touchdowns receiving. Sure, Bergerstock, Donovan and Baez weren't threats to do it, but they didn't have to be because they could run. (Well, I think Bergerstock was more about his line than anything else, but still.)

But these guys are pretty one-dimensional, and the line issues make it impossible for them to have an impact

I haven't watched that close the past few years, but has Ithaca decided to run a basic RB screen yet?

Bombers why did Sulla only get one carry?

Here's what's astounding about that. Welch called one in the 2008 Jug and it worked perfectly, and would up being something like a 30-yard touchdown. But by and large, we never call screen passes. Blows my mind. You would think with a terrible offensive line, defenders wouldn't know the difference between out guys letting them through and actually attempting to stop them, but it's never been a staple of the playbook.

Don't believe there were any screens called Saturday anyway and it would seem to be a viable option.  Cortland is aggressive when it comes to pass rushing.  That combined with a weak O line would seem to be the perfect set up.

So I could be correct in saying that Ithaca has run 1 screen since 1993?  (The year I got to Ithaca)

Pep was watching ICTV's "Gridiron Report" with clips from the Frostburg State game. From Pep's limited observation, it was a well-executed screen pass that sparked a late Bomber offensive spurt that beat the Bobcats.

Pep used to play a pretty cool NFL game on his PC (before Madden was the craze). When the opposing defense became super aggressive, blitzing on a regular basis, Pep would go to the screen pass...was pure joy to see Pep's RB or TE advancing 25 to 30 yards or, many times, break it for a TD.

On another note, Pep heard this morning that deer season opens Saterday and that, in NYS, the deer permit includes permission to take one bear. Pep is exited to go on a bear hunt this Saterday.
