Title: 2012 NFL Draft
Post by: AUPepBand on April 03, 2012, 11:03:26 PM
Here's a list of the 2012 NFL Draft Prospects (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/schools?letter=a&year=2012&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnfl%2fdraft%2fschools%3fletter%3da%26year%3d2012) listed by college.

Happy to see a Saxon on the list. AU All-American LB Nick Clark continues to train in Dallas following a solid performance at the NFL Small College Combine in Akron, OH last month.

I would love for this list to be an accurate representation of kids with true NFL chances, but to be honest, there are WAY too many D-III kids on there.

I prefer NFLDraftScout.com's lists, generally. They seem to be a little more realistic.

Agreed, Pat. And Pep honestly doesn't expect AU's Nick Clark to get drafted. But based on his work ethic, desire and durability, Pep is thinking he may get a shot somewhere.

Nick is the sort of guy that refuses to quit. Pep was going through a stack of clippings from Pep Jr.'s high school hoops days and was surprised to come across a photo in one paper of that same Nick Clark (Canisteo) on his back with all appearances of being annihilated by a Bolivar-Richburg wrestler in a 152-lb. match. Turns out, Clark was pinned in 3:33. That was ten years ago. Looking at that photo, were one to ask which wrestler was offered a D1 scholarship to wrestle at UNC-Greensboro, it likely wouldn't be Clark. But it was...

And at AU, Clark was a four-year starter. He broke the record for career tackles. He has a nose for the ball and the quickness to get there. Can he play in the NFL? Perhaps. Will he play in the NFL? Time will tell. But Pep will go on record that if he doesn't it won't be for lack of effort on his part.

I don't know if anyone watched Robert Griffin at Baylor's pro day but Damina Davis and Nate Menkin were there from UMHB. Davis was fairly pedestrian, but Menkin's work got him invited to the super regional combine in Houston. His bench press impressed the announcers on ESPN. he pushed 225lbs 39 times. Only 2 players at the NFL combine pushed more. one pushed 41 reps one pushed 44.

Menkin's stated height and weight are adequate for an NFL OG. How well does he move his feet?

On the main Sports Talk station in Dallas, one of the NFL experts interviewed said small college corner backs are especially attractive for pro teams to draft.

Because raw speed and quickness are more positive factors in the overall quality of DIII cornerbacks as potential NFL players than for other positions, then relative lack of experience by DIII cornerback prospects (as opposed to DII or DI cornerback prospects) in competing against top flight college talent becomes less of a factor - but only smally so.

Great piece on Faulcon....sounds like his playing days may not be behind him. Best of luck to him!

Pep saw AU All-American LB Nick Clark after AU Honors Convocation...and assured him we'd be hoping for the best as we watch the NFL Draft.

Pep is thinking that Faulcon and Clark, while likely being passed over in the Draft, are apt to sign with a team as free agents, thereby getting their respective shots at making a team.

Congrats to Chris Greenwood from Albion on getting chosen by the Detroit Lions in the 5th round. :)

Greenwood appears to have unmistakably big time numbers - does he have the other stuff? Is there a reason U/M overlooked him - after all he played HS football right down the road from U/M?
