The 2012 New York Regional will be held at FSC Baseball Complex in Farmingdale NY.
NY Regionals - Cortland, Farmingdale, Keystone, LL Champ, NJAC Pool C, New England Team, ???, ???
Any thoughts - I'm not sure St John Fisher or Ithaca will get a bid. St John Fisher has done more to deserve it, but Ithaca won the league, if you can call it a league.
Where's all the talk on this board - Selection Sunday - ?
New York Regional. Cortland, Farmingdale...and anyone else from NY??
I think as the #1 seed in the Mid Atlantic, Keystone, will stay there, as well as Kean obviously.
NY could pull in someone like Misericordia and two teams from New England. But who else?
Do Fisher and Ithaca really have a shot.
I guess you can definitely add in Skidmore.
In an 8 team regional that's 8 teams; Cortland Farmingdale, Misericordia, Skidmore, 2 teams from New England (take your pick), Fisher and Ithaca.
In a 6 team regional you can take out Ithaca and Fisher. If you keep 1 or both of them and leave out the New England teams it weakens the regional.
D3. com projects Ithaca in as a Pool B pick and Fisher as Pool C.
Makes sense, especially for Ithaca. At best a borderline Pool C, makes it fairly easily as a quality Pool B team
And so here's how the field stacks up...
1. Cortland State
2. Farmingdale State
3. Ithaca
4. Misericordia
5. Skidmore
6. Castleton State
Remember, the host Rams captured the regional crown the last time the tournament was played downstate.
My son plays for Skidmore. I'm so excited to be going back to the regionals. Two years ago we were there and lost our first two games 1-0 and 7-6. I hope things go better this time around. Either way it's a huge honor to be there representing the Liberty League.

Go get 'em....good luck to Skidmore and your son. I picked up my son from UR yesterday and did the long drive home. You guys did it the hard way. I still say none of the games should have been played Thursday, but you guys did recover after the soaking. See you next year!

3:30pm – Game 2 – #2 Farmingdale State vs. #5 Skidmore

Even if it does rain, Farmingdale has a FieldTurf surface so it shouldn't really be an issue.

Been ranked between 10th and 15th this season, beat shenandoah 2 times early in season , and lost to Cortland late in season 4-2. Play in Freedom conference and came out of the losers bracket the last 2 seasons in a row to win the conference title. Very confident hard nosed group that support each other very well- good pitching, great defense, and timely hitting.!

Thanks for the catch. Livestats first indicated T. Nagy was pitching the ninth, but then had B. Hourihan continuing. We were confused. No surprise there! And CSt's deciding seventh run came in the fourth when A. Pezzuto opened with a triple followed by J. Adornetto's sac fly. Blanked beyond that as Castleton gained momentum.
Farmingdale 10, Skidmore 2
For Day 1 I picked Cortland over Castleton, Farmingdale over Skidmore and Misericordia over Ithaca.

Cortland defeats Misericordia 7-2 behind R. Angelucci's complete game. Misericordia scores first in the fourth inning. Corts go up 3-1 in the fifth, all runs unearned when Cougars err twice. B. Mistretta opened the inning with its only hit, a single. RDragons stretch lead to 7-1 in the seventh on four hits. M. June launches with a walk and circles the bases as A. Pezzuto triples to right. J. Andorntto, M. LaTempa and M. Rosing follow with singles and PJ Rinaldi knocks in the seventh score with a bunt. Angelucci strikes out eight and doesn't walk anyone. Pezzuto 3x4, 2r. Misericordia uses three hurlers. M. Karabin the loser working the front five frames. Walks five. Cougar J. Slanovec 3x4, bi. Corts take 20th straight
Cortland 7-7-1
Misericordia 2-7-2
Misericordia eliminated as a result of loss to Cortland.

Farmingdale blanks Ithaca 2-0. Home side's M. Santagata comes on and strikes out two with Bombers at second and third in the ninth. IC has chances galore throughout the game and wastes J. Predergast's complete game pitching effort. Farms score in the fifth and seventh innings
Farmingdale 2-7-2

3:30pm – Game 8 – #3 Ithaca vs #6 Castleton State
7:00pm – Game 9 – Loser Game 7 vs. Winner Game 8
My predictions for the day:
Cortland over Farmingdale
Ithaca over Castleton
Farmingdale over Ithaca
Weather forecast in Farmingdale: Sunny and 70 degrees.
Cortland goes into the bottom of the 8th up 4-2 over Farmingdale. Brendan Hourihan comes on in relief of Mike Hughes in the top of the 8th with Farmingdale threatening to close the gap. The Rams had already scored once in the inning to make it 4-2 and had the bases loaded with 2 outs when the Red Dragons made the switch to Hourihan. He got the next batter to fly out to center to end the threat. Hughes went 7 2/3 innings giving up 10 hits but only 2 earned runs. Red Dragons only have 3 hits but have made the most of them. Now entering the top of the 9th with Cortland just 3 outs from the win.
Cortland's Hourihan gets a 1-2-3- ninth and the Red Dragons remain undefeated in the regional as they top Farmingdale 4-2.
Ithaca needs to beat Castleton State at 3:30, then face off and beat Farmingdale State this evening at 7:00. Then maybe we'll get to see who can win between Cortland and Ithaca as these 2 rivals take up where they left off in that 10-10 tie game back on March 28th. Cortland with a big advantage since they haven't lost yet. Will be tough for any of the remaining teams to beat the Red Dragons twice.
Plattsburgh State women play their first game in the D3 World Series of Softball today at 4:00 PM. They will have, just named, 2nd Team All American Ashley Marshall (25-4) on the mound.
Good luck to the Cortland men and Plattsburgh women.
Ithaca up 5-2 in ninth over Castleton ...........winner vs. Farmingdale this evening.
Cortland with quite the interesting show ......outhit 10-3 but made the most of two of those. And Farmingdale defense aided the CSt cause. A. Pezzuto double drives in Corts first run in the first. Farms knot it in the third with three hit inning. CSt up 2-1 in the fourth when T. Panetta leads off with a double, is bunted along and scores on B. Mistretta sac fly. Two run fifth decisive. First two RDragons retired preceding a walk, infield error that scores a run and a wild pitch for the fourth score. CSt down in order in sixth, seventh and eighth. Farmingdale pushes over a run in the eighth on four hits, but leave the sacks loaded when B. Hourihan relieves M. Hughes and gets third out via fly to center. Key play has Cortland throw out a potential steal of second as run scores. Hourihan retires Farms 1-2-3 in ninth. Hughes goes 7.2 innings, walks three, strikes out four. M. Dolce starts for Farm and goes 2.1. Loser D. Morelli goes 4.2 and M. Santagata the ninth. A. Alvino 2x4, bi for Farm, D. Zilnicki 2x4
Farmingdale 2-10-2
Cortland 4-3-0
Ithaca stays alive as they eliminate Castleton State 5-2. Andrew Sanders with a complete game for the Bombers. He gave up 8 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 BB's and had 8 strikeouts. He finished with a 1-2-3 9th after Castleton scored their only 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th.
Bombers now meet Farmingdale State at 7:00 PM this evening for the right to meet Cortland tomorrow at noon.
Farmingdale 4, Ithaca 3 in 10 innings
Farmingdale's R. Remi opens the home 10th with a base hit to give him a 3x5 night. R. McAllister's sac bunt is misplayed and Remi comes all the way around with the winning run against IC reliever I. Gaule, who fielded the bunt.
Twas 3-2 IC after one ......Bombers first three batters with hits, then retired in order in 7 of the next 8 innings!! Farm ties it in the seventh and leaves the bases loaded in the eighth and strands a runner on third in the ninth. IC opens the 10th with V. Gneo's one-out single. Pinch runner gets to third where reliever M. Santagata gets the final out on a liner. M. DeRamo went 9.2 innings for the Farms. No walks, four fans. Frosh J. Wagner pitches into the eighth for IC and after 120 plus pitches yields to Gaule
Ithaca eliminated. Farmingdale meets Cortland in the morning
Ithaca 3-5-1
Farmingdale 4-11-2
Day 4 Schedule in the New York Regional at Farmingdale State College
Saturday, May 19
Noon - #1 Cortland vs. #2 Farmingdale
Teams will play for the New York Regional Championship.
If Farmingdale wins then both teams will play again @ 3:30, winner takes all.
Cortland -- outhit 12-3 -- scores twice in the bottom of the ninth to dispatch Farmingdale 2-1 and advance to World Series. M. LaTempa triple to left center scores the tying run and pinch hitter PJ Rinaldi's fly to center is misplayed, scored an error and sac fly to score the winner
Cortland causes heartbreak to host Farmingdale, whose Rams nearly made a third inning run hold up to send this final to a climactic second game. Instead, RDragons create dramatic finish when J. Andornetto draws a full count walk to start the ninth. He's bunted to second by M. Rosing prior to M. LaTempa driving an 0-1 serve to left-center for a game tying triple. T. Panetta walks and Farms call on frosh closer M. Santagata who's been lights out in the regional. Corts pinch batting PJ Rinaldi sends a fly to center that's scored an error and sac fly. Guess here is fielder in haste to catch and throw to the plate dropped the ball. Just a guess .....
Both sides saw offenses frustrated with plenty of scoring chances go awry. Of course, 12 Farmingdale hits would indicate that. Rams with seven hits in the first three innings, scoring in the third on A. Alvino's one out single, sac bunt and F. Scarlato's RBI single to center. Left the bases loaded in the second and had a runner tossed out from center at the plate in the sixth. Stranded runners at second in the eighth and third in the ninth. Cortland started J. Molloy who in 6.1 innings allowed nine hits with one walk and three Ks. T. Scott did nice job in relief over 2.2 innings. Struck out a pair.
Rams started frosh lefty C. Hansen who pitched 2.1 innings. Soph M. Dolce tuned in strong effort till giving way to Santagata. Cortland limited to B. Mistretta's single in the third and Rosing's base knock in the fourth. Still, CSt stranded runners in several scoring instances. For the Rams, seven hit safely. Scarlato 3x4, Alvino 2x4, T. Rydzewski 2x4.
Cortland's 22nd straight W. Last loss at St. John Fisher, whose fine season drew to a close today in 9-2 loss to Marietta in Mid East Regional. Result avenged a 5-2 Fisher victory over the host
Farmingdale 1-12-2
Cortland 2-3-1
