I've put together some advanced team and player stats for 62 teams participating in this year's NCAA tournament. They are here:
http://www.nationalsportsrankings.com/1314division3
The team stats will show the four factors, pace of play, different shooting pct's, and much more. The player stats show usage, efg%, scoring distribution, various other player metrics and much more.
I thought some may be interested. I did the best I could getting the most recent statistics to calculate all the numbers.
I posted in a couple of the other sub forums and probably should have posted it here as this is a multi-regional topic.
Holy Cow, that's a lot of numbers.
I know it's a bit overwhelming. I figured I'd add as much information as possible, to start, then trim it once I found out what people were actually interested in. I'll also try to eliminate some of the numbers that may be showing inaccuracies with what may actually be happening on the floor.
Most people know their own teams, that they follow, better than most scouts. I was hoping to put some numbers behind the teams to see if they match what others are seeing. I hope to generate automated scouting reports for the players and teams, in the future, so that the page will be more user friendly.
Very cool! I copied and pasted the four teams in the pod I'll be going to tonight (Hope) on excel and trimmed it down. Better than the program I would have had to pay for! Thanks!

Impressive! Did you have to pull the numbers from the individual team sites? That must have taken quite a bit of time. I don't think the NCAA stats database has all those numbers.
Thanks for the feedback. I pulled the overall season stats from various sites. It did take some time. The hardest part was creating the calculations once I could get the actual team/player stats in the format I wanted.
I'm hoping, with some help, next year I can somehow find an easier way to get the stats from the team pages to my spreadsheet.
The hard part is mostly done now. My next goal is to reach out to people who can help take each teams regular season stats and help me put them in the format I would need so I could run reports after every game.
Probably a pipe dream..... but I know there are some smart people out there that would value some of the information and may help me out.
If anyone has any suggestions going forward I appreciate the feedback.
I've always said we needed some sort of advanced metric like Ken Pom for D-3 for teams, and even players. The issue is the lackadaisical pace of the posting of box scores and stats by some programs.

I guess that's what I'd like to do. (have team pages available for all schools) At least something where you can get an idea of what a team/player is like "statistically".
When I contacted someone from the NCAA about updating their site I didn't get very far. They have a page with each teams offensive numbers if you can find it. I asked him if they had a similar page for their defensive stats so I can put together some basic advanced stats and this was the response I got:
" At this point the defensive numbers are not part of the trends report and you'd have to dig into each team individually to get more detail on that. At this point there are no plans to make a major overhaul to that page for this season but we tweak these pages each year so it's possible we could do something like that in the future."
The gentlemen was very nice but I can promise you making a nice stat site is very low on their priority list.

Very impressive stuff...I'm always looking for unique and/or little-used stats to help paint a clearer picture of both teams, aside from the usual statistical formats.
Well done!
This is great! I'd been working on Four Factors stuff for the last month or so, but it was always going to be incomplete. Glad to see someone really put a full list together.
Thanks again for the feedback guys. At some point in the off season I'll start doing the other teams, not in the tournament, one conference at a time. I'll post anything else I do, regarding the team/player stats, in this thread.
I don't know if anyone is interested but I've put together similar numbers for the Division 2 Men's tournament.

I've put together a 1 click advanced stat page, with an auto-generated scouting report, for every D3 team. (Using last year's stats)
http://nationalsportsrankings.com/index.php?option=com_teamplayer
Once you click a teams name you'll get team and player stats/ratings. Below that is a "scouting report" that is generated solely on each players season numbers.
I thought some would be interested.
An amazing amount of work here. I appreciate the effort Plus K. Scouting reports seem quite accurate based on the few teams I've looked at. Would have liked to have seen these scouting reports about 5 or 6 games into the season. ;D
Thanks. It's been a big undertaking to get it to this point. I'm working on being able to get the data after every game so users will be able see the stats/report after every contest. That is the next big hurdle.
I used this type of set up to run numbers for a division 2 team this past season. I sent the coach a scouting report/advanced stat sheet similar to this, after each game, and the head coach thought they were very helpful.
Early season numbers will skew the ratings some. I think after 4-6 games you'll have a good idea of a team or players strengths and weaknesses.
Just added a stat based lineup ranking for each team. That's over 250+ combinations based on the top 10 players I have listed on every team page. Here's a sample team. (If you click the Projected Lineup Stats tab the results will show up at the bottom of the report)
http://nationalsportsrankings.com/index.php?option=com_teamplayer&task=load_magic&magic=4276
For all other teams go here:
http://nationalsportsrankings.com/index.php?option=com_teamplayer
Lineup ranking takes a few seconds to load but will show up at the bottom of the report.
I've added individual team charts for each player. Click a team then click a player to see a chart like the one below.
