Title: TOP GOALS
Post by: lastguyoffthebench on December 10, 2014, 03:31:10 AM

Because I have nothing better to do....   this was a goal by Randolph vs National Finalist Lynchburg early in the season 2010...   very Henry'esque
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlJx8ZS3ND8

We need to post more links for highlights such as these.  The main link on the homepage hasn't been updated.

If anyone has the Joe Auleta goal from Rutgers-Camden vs York in the 2013 Sweet 16 game it needs to be uploaded....   Typical Scholes half volley from the top of the box picking up the garbage ball off a corner kick...  Upper 90.

Here is one from last season that the Loras SportZONE media team covered and the goal ended up making it "Prime Time" on Fox Sports.

I'm gonna go with Kayne's "Giant Slayer" goal against Messiah. I really wish someone had a good video of it...😞

This goal from Messiah vs Kenyon was a classy strike within 2 minutes of the start to put the Falcons up 1-0 on the Lords in the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2013

That's great goal Kickin.  Can you pull up last year's "take a bow, Tommy" goal from Fluegel?  He also had a great one late against Wheaton last year from an impossible angle.

Haha.  That's great!  That's when I fell in love with Loras soccer and the Rock Bowl.  And Lastguy, you should get all over Saint of Old for leaving you off the top 5 posters ballot.  Or perhaps that was a compliment to be excluded :)

There is no way Last Guy is not a unique poster.

I think all the top posters have one thing in common:
We still want to play!!!
There are a few of us who would continue to be the last guy on the bench so long as we can be around it.

The best thing about this site is it allows us has beens to still "compete on some level" by cheering for our teams, and giving analysis to some sick programs/ballers.

Still waiting for headquarters to take me up on the top posters poll :)

Its fun here, even when a few of us get  a bit too crazy ;D
As for Sick Goals:

This one clinched the Liberty League Championship:

This is his favorite of all time.     I really thought that Messiah team in '99 was going to beat that unstoppable force.

Ahhh yes, I remember that one from 2010 ... made it 2-0 late and put the final nail in the victory after having not beaten York in the prior 3 games I believe.

If you have 15 minutes to spare here's some of the best OWU goals from the last decade:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoLdUhtqUmU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoLdUhtqUmU)

If not, a few personal favorites:

2011 Sweet Sixteen game-winning goal by Travis Wall to complete 3-2 comeback over Ohio Northern:

2011 game-winning goal in the National Championship by Paolo Bucci:

2008 NCAA First-Round game-winner by Matt Bonfini with :02 left in double-overtime:

2008 Tyler Wall volley off of a 1-2, remains best goal I've ever seen live:

Can call me a "homer," but this free-kick from Brandeis' Tudor Livadaru against MIT in 2013 was the best strike I've ever witnessed personally. Lined it up like a right-footed player, only to hit a rocket with the outside of his left boot into the far top corner. Power and swerve were such that no 'keeper could have saved it. I was sitting at the perfect angle; reminiscent of Pogba's outside-of-the-boot goal for Juventus.

This is not a "top goal" but a very exciting and thrilling goal. 2010 Bowdoin v Middlebury NCAA Elite 8 with the winner going to San Antonio. The buzzer beater of all buzzer beaters

In 2000,  Stockton scored on a buzzer beater bicycle kick to draw level vs Wheaton...  If only there was video footage of that one somewhere.

SCORING SUMMARY:
GOAL   Time Team     Goal Scorer              Assists                       Description
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.   77:18 RSC      Pete Lambert (1)         Greg Ruttler                scramble in front
2.   78:01 WHEATON  Joe Jerele               Penalty kick                lower left corner
3.   87:59 WHEATON  OWN GOAL (1)       (unassisted)                own goal; last touched by Josh West
4.   89:59 RSC      Mike Ford (2)            Greg Ruttler                  bicycle kick from 25 yards

Was there in person for that one, and I'm still not sure whether it went in before the clock struck zero!  Of course, under FIFA rules, there would be no debate, as any ref would have allowed the free kick and its logical follow up to take place.

I also witnessed the most spectacular bicycle kick ever in October 2014 in the Amherst-Colby game, when Amherst's NPL hit a pea from the top of the penalty area off a cross that struck the bar and fell to Jae Ho for the rebound finish.  Has anyone seen a video of that one?!

eh...it was a nice combination r 2 leading up to it but not a TOP TOP goal or buzzer beater season saver type.

Id like to see a few more buzzerbeaters / OT GW's to save a season with an above average goal to go with it
