Title: 2016 Midwest Regional (La Crosse, WI)
Post by: cubs on May 18, 2016, 11:50:55 AM
In what should be a surprise to nobody, both St. John's and St. Scholastica throw their "ace" in Game #1.

SJU with an early 2-0 lead behind a Wingerd 2-run HR.

CSS has had baserunners in each of the first three innings, but as of yet have been unable to push anything across.

SJU takes game 1 from CSS 7-2. Both starters went into the 7th and each team used just one reliever, so no excessive damage done to the pitching staffs.

Ho hum.....  Another game, another hit for Taylor Kohlwey as he hits a HR in his first AB to extend his hitting streak to 46 games.

La Crosse leads 3-0 in the third inning over Beloit...

Situation not improving for the Bucs. 8-0 in the 6th. Shifting into save the bullpen mode.

While La Crosse shifts to "save the starter" mode pulling Boushley after six innings with a 12-0 lead....  Would think La Crosse will be able to use Boushley later on this weekend if needed thanks to a "lighter" work load today.

La Crosse now leads 17-2 in the 9th....

im surprised there's been no talk about pat bloom and Washington u making regionals.  Looks like they had a decent year played very well in conference tournament and now opened with first round shutout.  I believe they had a lot of talent back from last year and actually had a somewhat disappointing regular season.  It's kind of ironic because when point made some of their runs it seemed they didn't play up to expectations quite often but then stepped it up come conference tourney time.

Of note, Concordia's "ace," Eric Palmer threw only 2.1 innings, as he struggled with control.  Concordia ended up having one of their other top arms (possibly their #2,) Mike Formella, come on in relief and throw 2.2 innings.

It will be interesting to see how quickly both see the mound again, with neither throwing what seemed like a large number of pitches.

Maybe there is, but this is the Midwest Regional page and his team isn't in the Midwest Regional.

Is there another LIVE stream for the CuC / UWL game today?  Boxcast should be thrown in a box and buried.

La Crosse just continues to do what they have been doing most of the season.....  which is putting up runs early and often!!!!

The Eagles hang a seven spot up in the Bottom of the 1st inning, and never look back in a 12-3 victory over Concordia-Chicago.  The win earns them a bid in the Midwest Regional championship game, where they will face the winner of Concordia-Chicago vs St. John's/Luther at 3:30 pm Saturday.  Should they lose, a second "winner take all" championship game would be played Sunday.

Taylor Kohlwey extends his hitting streak to 48 games on a first inning double.

It should be mentioned that Concordia-Chicago was "forced" to use Mike Formella on Wednesday after a short start by Perkins.  Needless to say, Formella wasn't very "sharp" giving up seven runs on six hits and three walks in just one inning of work.

La Crosse should be embarrassed by that garbage they claimed to be streaming video.  Maybe they need to upgrade their Amiga.

There's nothing wrong with the Boxcast product. The issues was the bandwidth available at Copeland Park. It just wasn't good enough. I don't know if that falls on UWL, the Loggers or the City of La Crosse parks department.
