If you hadn't heard, I took over the Around the Nation column for D3hoops.com this year - the first one went up last night.
http://www.d3hoops.com/columns/around-the-nation/2016-17/passing-the-baton
We are hoping to leave the team feature stories to the various Around the Region writers and cover topics that are more general to d3 (across regions and gender). I'm hoping to get feedback on the columns here, talk about possible topics, debate, whatever.
If you've got ideas or questions, this is a good place to do it (also in the actual comments section on the column).
Hey Hoops fan, congrats on the promotion so to speak. Loved reading your articles in the Mid Atlantic region last year and the first Around the Region was great as well! Just a minor correction that I noticed reading the article that I know you know but most people reading probably won't. You have in the article Bob Campbell retiring from Eastern Connecticut when it was really Western Connecticut that he had been coaching for the last 30+ years. Bill Geitner, the current head coach at Eastern Connecticut is still coaching there.

Yeah, it's fixed. Crazy how something like that gets through a couple pairs of eyes, isn't it?
Eastern Connecticut? Western Connecticut? Southern Connecticut? Wait, they're D2. Central Connecticut? Wait, they're D1. Northern Connecticut?

I've been assured Bob Campbell doesn't know how to turn on his computer, so we should be ok.
The second column came out on Thanksgiving - focused on inter-region games and the importance of traveling to success in d3.

If I attend your game, there's a 90% chance an upset will happen. My record is pretty good for regular season - Swarthmore messed with it yesterday, but they tried really hard to lose.

Not as bad as a famed other jinx that I personally do not like bringing up in conversation... because I refuse to let it live. LOL

I hope Dillon Young got some consideration. He doesn't score 20 a game because on his team he doesn't need to, but he rarely makes big mistakes (only 5 turnovers in the season so far), shoots well and with great shot selection, his great instincts (and high school coaching from a really good one) make him one of the best defenders on a really good defensive team. And he chips in 5 boards a game as a point guard for good measure.
On a team that needed him to be, he could average 16-18 ppg. Instead as a soph he was a 52/49/92 shooter.

I was very impressed with his abilities at the Hoopsville Classic.

I don't think I was able to capture the scope of the topic as much as I would've liked, but maybe it's a good conversation starter.
Great article. That's why I love D3. +1

You can get even more diverse with a match-up of UT-Dallas and Schreiner, a former ASC team, or current ASC UT-Dallas and University of Ozarks!
Schreiner and Ozarks are private liberal arts schools in Kerrville TX (estimated population 23,000) and Clarksville AR (estimated population 9,500), respectfully.
Thanks for the article.

Oh my gosh yes, a super fun read... However, Ryan, you missed on my SLIAC conference. To correct, take in to account that Iowa Wesleyan is NOT YET ELIGIBLE for the conference tourney. That pushes Webster and Blackburn up to 3rd and 4th with Principia still having a shot at 4th on the men's side. And on the women's side, with Iowa Wesleyan out of fifth, it pretty much locks the top 4.

You know Ryan, when someone points out a mistake I make on these pages, I always thank them. Kinda like when you pointed out my mistake on today's big games this morning and I thanked you....
So Iowa Wesleyan isn't eligible for the CONFERENCE tourney, but (not likely) eligible for a Pool C?
I believe Iowa Wesleyan is still in their 4 year NCAA probation period after transferring over from the USCAA... add to that an extra year as they made some type of administrative error concerning Women's Golf... Coach told me just the other day they are still not eligible NEXT season.... Give lack of NCAA eligibility, the SLIAC prohibits them from playing in the conference tourney. They have continued to compete in the USCAA tourney in various sports.
