Javi resigned at Emerson last week. Moving to take women's asst position at Syracuse. Good opportunity here for someone young with a different idea. Team actually has surprisingly decent level of quality, with 3-4 exceptional players.
Just curious...how much do the D3 college coaches get paid?

Not much of a sample size but here you go:

page 6 of 9. 35-60K a year. Not sure of the date on this. But 10 private college coaches responded and it was male and female. Still, about what I expected.
Yeah. Not huge money, but it's enough to keep a young, hungry coach fed while he launches a career.
This is a good job for a young assistant coach because of the addition of Emerson to the NEWMAC a couple years ago. I think they got their first NEWMAC victory last season. Not sure if this has been filled yet
Can anyone confirm whether Javier Mejia-Blau actually left Emerson? He is still listed as coach on their website, and he is NOT listed for Syracuse.
He's leaving. Candidate interviews have just finished. Waiting on announcement.
New coach is Bryan Harkin; was asst. at Tufts last three years.
Emerson should do well by Coach Harkin. He played a big part in the success of the Jumbos the past three years.

He was not on Tufts staff in 2014 when they won it all...I am sure he is a good coach but the accent must have pushed him over the line.

Those Irish accents are tough to resist! ;D

It says in his bio that he was there for the 2014 championship. He might have replaced Hobie Hare just prior to the season, if I recall correctly.

I was at Tufts' 2014 second round NCAA game against Wheaton in Norton, MA, and I'm pretty sure I saw Harkin there warming up the team.
I thought he was brought in after Hobie Hare left and he was on the staff in 2014..I could be wrong, which is very infrequent, but I am willing to admit it when I am wrong

Especially for clueless AD's and faculty committee's hiring for Men's Soccer positions

The Tufts assistant coach that I saw at the Wheaton game was fairly short, had a beard and longish hair, just like Harkin's picture on the Tufts and Emerson websites, so that is why I think he was on the staff in 2014. If I am wrong, I will admit it too.
I bet he does well- he's a good coach, the players like him, and he's made solid connections in the local (Massachusetts) youth soccer community. He should be able to get more players once he figures out where the school fits in the pecking order. Lots of kids would want to be in downtown Boston, and lots of kids could be sold on the "communications" focus. That being said, given the relatively niche academics, can't imagine there would be expectations for winning seasons.
I have to admit I do not know where Emerson plays on their home field..Also, where do they train? It could be possible that might hurt recruiting somewhat. Still, it was a great move to get into the NEWMAC
He was on the sidelines for Tufts when they beat Messiah in the Elite 8 in 2014. He did most of the shouting/instructing during the game for Shapiro.
Emerson has a turf field in what would be called SOWA (south of Washington), so walkable from "campus"- you can see it from the Expressway! Hard to find a parking spot, but nice place to see a game (kind of the urban canyon effect).
Emerson's field is an old, narrow turf field with no bleachers or other elevated viewing spots. It is one of the worst fields in New England for college soccer.

A successful soccer program at Emerson would trump the same at Oberlin/Vassar and Bard...and probably by a significant margin. So, in short, he will have ample opportunity to demonstrate how good of a coach and program builder he is.
School doesn't join a top conference and hire a coach like that to lose games.
