Title: Fall 2020 Basketball Plans
Post by: Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan) on September 30, 2020, 01:05:00 PM

Under the current rules, tomorrow (Oct 1st) is the first day practice is allowed for fall sports.  Does anyone know of teams that are actually starting tomorrow or what teams might be planning to try and do anything in the rest of 2020?  We have conference plans pretty well publicized, but I'm curious what individuals schools are planning to do.

Illinois Wesleyan will practice tomorrow.

It won't be normal practice. Ron Rose's squad will wear masks, and not participate in contact drills.

The Titans will practice tomorrow (10/1) through 11/25. Players will go home 11/25 and return 1/2.  CCIW games should start sometime in mid-January.

There should be a CCIW schedule out by mid-October.

Usually there's a "tryout" period for fall sports, where there are team practices that include incoming freshmen, and a few days later varsity and JV rosters are posted.

Is that what is starting today (October 1)? So that teams planning on fall activity should start posting rosters in a few days?

In previous years, October 15th was the first time coaches could do anything basketball related with athletes or prospective athletes - then there are a certain number of weeks where such contact is allowed.  This year, they're allowing winter sports to start Oct 1st and then their contact is being counted by days rather than weeks and extends through the end of the Spring semester.  It's the same number of practice days allowed, but coaches and schools have the option to spread them out over a longer period.  I know some schools aren't doing anything until January, others are doing a couple days a week or splitting the team into smaller groups to keep them apart from one another.  There's a lot of flexibility this year.

Man, that would be a grueling month and a half of practice! We had two weeks from Oct 15th to about Nov. 1st when we would play our first scrimmage and it seemed like forever.

Gonna be such an interesting year. Im excited to see how it will all play out and hope everyone stays safe so we can make it through!
