Trinity (Texas) play Colorado College tonight at 6:00 p.m. CST at Trinity. It should be a good game and give both sides an idea about how good they are this Spring. They are tied at the top of the SCAC table on points but Trinity has the edge on goal differential, by one goal.
Trinity has a very high quality video-streaming production. May be worth checking out. Here's to a good game. Good luck to both sides.

Trinity won, 5-1. SCAC tournament kicks off April 23.
SCAC championships kick off today at Centenary (LA), with today's quarterfinals being moved up due to the threat of severe weather later in the day.
#4 Texas Lutheran (5-3/5-3 SCAC) vs. #5 St. Thomas (TX) (4-2-3/4-2-2) at 9:00AM CDT
- St. Thomas won the regular season match, 1-0 in Seguin
- TLU's Luis Green leads the conference in points/match (2.88), shots/match (3.75), goals/match (1.25), and game-winning goals(3).
#3 Colorado College (5-3-1/5-2-1) vs. #6 Centenary (LA) (3-5-1/3-4) at 11:30AM CDT
- Colorado won the regular-season match, 2-0 in Colorado Springs
- Centenary is 3-1-1 at home this season and makes their first SCAC playoff appearance
#1 Trinity(TX) (6-0-1/6-0-1) gets the TLU/StT winner at 11AM Saturday
- Trinity has outscored their opponents 22-6
#2 Southwestern (4-0-3/4-0-3) gets the CC/Centenary winner at 3PM Saturday
- Southwestern has allowed a total of 3 goals in their seven games
Those winners face off Sunday for the championship
An entertaining opener as St. Thomas scores two second-half goals to send it into OT after trailing TLU 0-2.
2 OTs determine nothing, St. Thomas takes it in PKs:
TLU: X X ✓ X - 1
STT: ✓ ✓ ✓ - - 3
Three beautiful saves by the St. Thomas keeper were the difference.
Centenary led 2-0 at half, Colorado claws one back at 65' despite playing a man down.
Colorado dominated play in the second half despite being a man down most of it but could not find the equalizer. Centenary gets its first win in SCAC championship play 2-1 and will face Southwestern in the second semifinal tomorrow.
St Thomas gets probably the biggest win of their young D3 campaign, defeating Trinity 2-1 in the SCAC semis. The first goal came off a beautiful deep ball that found UST's Jair Perez in stride outside the left side of the box and he buried a cross-goal shot in the right side of the net - Trinity's keeper never had a chance (see an unfortunately blurry video here (https://twitter.com/USTAthletics/status/1385999701380669441)). A second goal was added in the second half; Trinity got one back at 80' but could not find the equalizer. Things got hectic at the end with two yellow cards handed out to the victors in the last minute. The star of yesterday's win was huge again today, as Rodrigo Lazo stopped at least ten Trinity shots on goal.
The Celts will play the winner of Southwestern-Centenary for the SCAC championship tomorrow.
Continuing the theme of this season's SCAC championships, Centenary upset Southwestern 0-0 (3-1 PK) to set up a championship match between this year's 5th and 6th seeds. Per the conference office, this is the first time two teams have made it from the quarterfinals to the final round.
I've been watching the SCAC for a while. Trinity is still the team to beat, but competition is getting better. This makes the conference a lot more interesting. There will some heavy legs out there today. Good luck to both teams and we'll done.
Centenary wins its first-ever SCAC men's soccer championship, 0-0 (5-3 PKs) over St. Thomas, in a defensive battle that saw only seven total shots on goal in regulation and two extra periods. According to the SCAC's writeup (https://www.scacsports.com/sports/msoc/2020-21/releases/20-21_champs/20-21_scac_msoc_game_5), St. Thomas had the better run of play in regulation with a 22-11 shot and 5-2 SOG advantage, but Centenary's Sami Borchalli was equal to the challenge. Borchalli's single save in penalties would also be the difference on this day.
The Gents, 4-5-3 overall (4-1-3 home, 0-4 road) this season, won the school's third-ever SCAC championship in any sport. St. Thomas ends its season 5-2-5.
All-SCAC teams (https://www.scacsports.com/sports/msoc/all-SCAC/2020-21allscacmsoccer.pdf) were announced this morning.
Offensive PoTY: Luis Green, Jr, TLU (third consecutive award)
- Led SCAC in total points (26), goals (11), PPG (2.89), goals/game (1.22), game winners (3), SOG (21); third in assists (4)
Defensive PoTY: Jacob Galan, Jr., Trinity
Newcomer of the Year: Ian Alvarez, FY, St. Thomas
Coach of the Year: Kyle Symczak, Centenary
There being no recent "D3 players in the pros" thread that I can find, this is as good a place as any to post this:
Matt Cardone (Trinity (TX) '14), the last original member of USL Championship side San Antonio FC, yesterday announced his retirement from the sport. The keeper holds franchise records for appearances (109), saves (328), clean sheets (26), minutes played (9,650), and his nine saves against Sporting Kansas City II on July 30, 2016 are tied for the most in single-match club history. In USL Championship history, his saves rank eighth all-time while his shutouts and appearances tie him for third. In later years injuries became an issue, most notably last season when, after leading the team to a second-place Western Conference finish, he was injured for the year late in the final game of the season. SAFC signed Jordan Farr on loan from Indy Eleven for a playoff run that ended with a loss in the championship match, and after SAFC signed Farr this season Cardone never regained the starting role. His only appearance this year was in a second-round US Open Cup victory.
Cardone's last match will be this Saturday against Charleston Battery. He plans to enroll in the law program at SMU this fall. https://www.uslchampionship.com/news_article/show/1231136
Trinity men's schedule is now posted.

Looking forward to being a part of this group and hopefully seeing Trinity make a deep run in D3. Will vie to be #2 Trinity University soccer fan next to Ron Boerger
LOL, welcome! It would be great if I could relinquish that honorific, or at least not talk to myself here!
I'll try to do better and join you. I plan to attend as many games in person as I can this season after catching the bug last year.
TU has a really nice venue in a fun part of town. A great reason for an outing!
Go Tigers!
Do have a soft spot for Trinity, my son and I visited in 2018 and spent a few days with Coaches McGinlay and Cartee and saw close up, what is a very well run and successful programme. The playing field is a great set up and rounds off what would be a great place to spend four years, both academically and athletically.
It's gotten better and better since I left in 1987. I've grown to enjoy nearly all of the teams and they are all very competitive.
I still wish they'd kept DI tennis. It was a treat back in the day to see Stanford, Texas, and so on come to Trinity and lose.
I've also attended football games at beautiful venues such as Millsaps, Rhodes, Washington U, and Texas Lutheran. Lots of good reasons to hit the road and explore!
Not to mention John McEnroe's only collegiate loss came at the hands of Trinity's Larry Gottfried (https://spmt3314.coateslibrary.com/exhibits/show/larry-gottfried-vs--john-mcenr/introduction).
D3Navy, Jay, if either of you have any insight into what things look like for the upcoming season, head on over to the 2022 D3 Men's Soccer National Perspective board and weigh in. Absent the roster being posted it's hard to know who's back and who's not, especially given the extra year of COVID eligibility for last year's seniors.
Ron, no unique insight, unfortunately. But based on observations last season a couple of things:
- Jacob Galan will be missed on defense (if he's, in fact, gone). He was the most powerful player on the field when he was in. One could almost sense the confidence from the rest of the players that he would shut down the opposition.
- Michael Meese is back (as far as I know). He brings the same offensive confidence that Galan brought on defense.
- Hunter Cain is known but still underrated. I can still picture an arching goal from near midfield that he scored last season. It was a bolt from this relatively slight, sneaky player. May be the key piece of the team's success this season.
- I expect Chen Adjei to blossom. Already a force but he'll shine in 2022.
I'm biased but will still go over to the perspective board to post this. Can't wait to get back downtown in a few weeks!

Another thing I didn't know about Trinity! McEnroe's last collegiate match was the NCAA final his frosh year at Stanford that he won in a classic duel against John Sadri from NC State who I sort of played against when I was at Davidson. A couple years later I watched Sadri take Borg to 4 sets on center court at US Open.
Anyone interested in participating in the D3soccer Fan poll this season?
If you are interested in participating, I will run the poll again if we get enough pollsters. My only caveat is that if you agree to participate you try your best to do it every week so that things are consistent. Also, you try to be on time because it's no fun for anyone if I have to track you down every week and pester you to get your votes in.
Unless someone has a better idea, I'll run it the same as last year with the same deadlines, so the poll will include games that start before Sunday at midnight EST and will be due to me before Tuesday EST at midnight and I will try to post on Wednesday.
I will not do a preseason poll. I hate them. They set up a ton of positional bias and, especially with 400+ teams in D3, there simply is no way to do a good one. The first poll will be based on games played prior to 9/11 and will be due to me on 9/13. That gives us roughly 2 weeks of games to start making judgements.
If you are interested, and I realize we about 2 weeks out, please send me a PM. I hope we get our pollsters back from last year, as they did an excellent job, but if you want to join in, I'm always open to more!
Any insights into why Michael Meese is apparently not playing tonight at Mary Hardin-Baylor?
The team is finally playing a dominating game, however. I hope it continues.
TU up 2-0 with 40 minutes left in the 2nd period.
Well.
3-2 UMHB final.
A lot of work ahead for the Tigers, most of it mental, it seems.
Anyone have any insight into Michael Meese's status with Trinity? He has not been playing.

No idea. Some of us have been wondering the same thing in the Go WEST thread (where I sometimes discuss the SCAC since there are so few of us interested in Region X as it is). He hasn't played since the first three games of the season.
Thanks.
I'll check out the other thread as well.
My intel is he is out for the year, and has been in that situation for at least 1 month

Such a shame - he is such a monster but can't stay healthy for whatever reason (lost a month last season to injury if memory serves).
Trinity has got to figure out a way to deal with St. Thomas' style of play. Two straight 2-1 losses to them dating to last year's semis and no Meese makes it worse. One thing in their favor is that the SCAC championships will be played in Sherman and St. Thomas has had less success on the road (3-1-2) than in Houston (7-0-1).
Trinity (18 points) has almost locked up the #1 seed for the tournament and #2-4 are totally up in the air. Colorado and St. Thomas are tied for second with 14 points, but the Tigers have a game in hand on the Celts. CC could earn the #1 seed with wins at Trinity and Schreiner this week. Southwestern is two points further back but could end up as high as second if they should win at back markers Austin and Dallas and CC does no better than 1-1 (CC holds the tiebreaker). Texas Lutheran is mathematically alive with a 14 point max possible against the same two teams but it would require SW to do no better than 0-1-1 thanks to the Pirates having the advantage of a 2-0 victory on Saturday.
Thanks jaysoccer.
Colorado College and Trinity tied tonight 0-0 in a game at Trinity. Trinity has the No. 1 spot for the conference tournament. Games on Sunday will determine final placement.
