Given that all 8 UAA Women's Soccer teams have been regionally ranked for the past 2 weeks, it did seem overdue to start a page to discuss the UAA on the women's side.
Starting Matchday #5 with Rochester vs NYU, and we are at halftime with NYU leading 1-0. The rest of the women's matches have a 5 PM Eastern start.
UAA right now seems poised to get at least 4 at-large Pool C bids into the field. Wash U at 12 points has a 5 point lead over Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, and CWRU, and a 6 point lead over Emory.
Rochester, Brandeis, and NYU (at 3 points, 3 points, and 0 points respectively going into today) are out of the running for the AQ and are trying to win some games to be considered for a Pool C at-large bid.
So far, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, CWRU, and Emory are very strong candidates for a Pool C bid. Wash U will get a Pool C if they do not win the AQ. NYU needs to win all 3 of their home contests to have a chance at an at-large bid, as does Rochester. Brandeis may get a Pool C with 2 wins in their final 3 matches.
At the half in the first game of Matchday #5, NYU leads over Rochester, 1-0
Goal came in the 41st minute from Izze Ching of NYU. This is Ching's first collegiate goal. The assist came from Ellie Marks.

Wash U is now leading over Carnegie Mellon, 1-0; and Chicago is still tied with CWRU at 1-1.
If current scorelines hold, the Wash U Bears would clinch the UAA Women's Title and the AQ tonight. The Bears would have an 7 point lead over the rest of the field with 2 matches remaining.
Final scores in MatchDay #5
Brandeis 1, Emory 0
Wash U 1, Carnegie Mellon 0

Congratulations to the Wash U Bears-- 2021-2022 UAA Women's Soccer Champions. Wash U clinches the automatic bid from the UAA to the NCAA DIII Women's Soccer Tournament. The guard of honor is well earned.

With Wash U clinching the AQ on Friday, the focus turns on the remaining teams as they try to improve their positions for Pool C consideration.
The first goal of the women's Matchday #6 has been scored by Carnegie Mellon in the 9th minute by Cecelia Dietrich to take a 1-0 lead on Chicago.
The other games are scoreless early. Rochester has come out with the early possession advantage vs Brandeis, but Brandeis has had chances for a goal.

Brandeis has just scored vs Rochester on a goal from Daria Bakhtiari with an assist from Yasla Ngoma in the 24th minute.

CWRU has taken a 1-0 lead on Wash U on a goal from Kati Davis in the 33rd minute. The match is now in the 40th minute.

Rochester goal scored in the 46th minute by Syd Coggins, assist from Liv Penegor. It is Coggins's 2nd goal of the season. Her first of the season came at Houghton in a non-league match.

The Carnegie Mellon v Chicago match has now gone final, with Carnegie Mellon winning, 4-0.
Final in Waltham: Brandeis 2, Rochester 1
Brandeis improves to 10-4-2, 3-3 in the UAA. The chances for a Pool C for Brandeis now look good, even if only one of the two Brandeis wins this weekend eventually counts as an RvR.
(I would not be surprised if Rochester is not ranked in the top 20% of Region III this Wednesday, having suffered an 0-2 weekend in RvR and starting this week at #7 in Region III.)
After 1 extra time period, Emory and NYU still deadlocked at 0-0.
1:23 PM Eastern update-- Emory and NYU finish with a 0-0 draw. Emory may need a win next week at Rochester to solidify their Pool C chances.
Wash U clinched the AQ on Friday, so they are in the NCAAs.
If I had to guess right now without the Week 3 rankings being published, I would say that Chicago, CWRU, and Carnegie Mellon will definitely be in as Pool C teams. Brandeis may have solidfied their Pool C entry this weekend with 2 UAA wins over Emory and Rochester. Emory may still get in as a Pool C, but needs a win next Saturday at Rochester.
One primary criterion that no one has to worry about in the UAA is the Strength of Schedule, both in conference and in non-conference action.
Rochester is definitely out of the running as far as Pool C goes, and NYU, while definitely not out of the Pool C running, did not help matters much by drawing with Emory when the Violets needed a win today.
The Week #3 Regional Rankings are out, and it is official-- every UAA Women's Soccer match is a result vs ranked this season. Congratulations.
It looks like the UAA could get 5 Pool C bids out of the 20 into the NCAA field with the way these rankings turn out-- which could be a record for the UAA in DIII women's soccer.
7 of the 8 UAA Women's soccer teams are ranked at #1, #2, or #3 this week in their respective evaluation regions--
Brandeis-- #2 in Region II
Rochester--#7 in Region III
NYU-- #3 in Region IV
Emory-- #3 in Region VI
Case Western Reserve-- #1 in Region VII
Carnegie Mellon--#2 in Region VII
Wash U--#1 in Region VIII (UAA Champion-- AQ)
Chicago--#2 in Region VIII
On another note, it took a few hours, because the NCAA's Toughest Schedule page had not been updated since October 28 as of this morning, but I was trying to compute the SOS for Brandeis by creating a spreadsheet to input results from games played since October 27, and I was able to get Brandeis's SOS correctly computed at .668 through October 31. This is based on Brandeis having an OWP through games played as of Sunday October 31 of .718, down from .730 as of games played October 27.
It is also not out of the question for NYU to be considered for a potential 6th Pool C bid out of the UAA if the Violets defeat Brandeis on Saturday and conference tournament results pan out. Not as likely for NYU to get a Pool C, but at #3 in an evaluation region, it cannot be ruled out. (I have Chicago, CWRU, Carnegie Mellon, Emory, and Brandeis in as Pool C's to the women's tournament as of this time.)
Update-- The Toughest Schedule page has now been updated through games played Nov. 2. Brandeis currently has an OWP of .708, which is still #1 among full members of DIII. (#2 overall in DIII according to the NCAA) A first year provisional school in Region VI, Asbury University, now has a higher OWP than Brandeis. (Asbury's OWP is marked at .711, but since Asbury does not become a full member of DIII until 2024-2025, it is really fair to claim that Asbury has the toughest DIII schedule?)
Good work, Allen! I hope you bring this energy to basketball season. In January if not November or December.

I'm guessing that Asbury is now an NAIA school? It seems that way due to there being NAIA schools on their schedule.
Sometimes I struggle with how the OWP is calculated. Below is a link to Asbury's schedule. I'm familiar with a good number of those schools. TBH, it is not a tough schedule. Asbury would likely have a tough time winning a game if they were to play a schedule like what the UAA, NESCAC, or schools in any top league would play.

I have checked Asbury's schedule this season. Asbury only played 8 DIII opponents (from the SAA, ODAC, Heartland, and USA South), and it looked like this year was to introduce the Eagles (from Kentucky) to what playing at least some DIII opponents would be like for a new team making their full entrance in DIII in a few years. Yes, Asbury is moving from the NAIA, and is now a first year provisional school in DIII. The exploratory year was waived by the NCAA earlier this year, so Asbury only needs 3 years of provisional status before they become a full member of DIII. Even though Asbury's OWP was .711 for the 8 DIII games that they played this season, their OOWP was only .503. Overall, Brandeis has the tougher schedule by far. Brandeis has a .668 SOS through games played as of October 31, while Asbury's SOS is only .648. The current Asbury SOS through games played November 2 drops to .641. Asbury went 3-5 in their games vs DIII opposition this season.
Update Nov. 4, 1:48 PM Eastern-- Based on my calculations from the data provided by the NCAA through games played Nov. 2, I calculated Brandeis's SOS through the Nov. 2 games at .661 The OWP is naturally going to take some hits this week (as it will for most teams) as most of Brandeis's non-conference opponents will be losing this week by being eliminated in their conference tournaments. As of the Brandeis non-confernce opponents, only MIT, Lasell, UMass-Boston, Lesley, Bridgewater State, and Springfield are still alive in their conference tournaments, with MIT and Lesley favorites to win their conference AQs.

Senior Day about to start at Rochester and NYU, and yes, I did subscribe to a 1 month subscription on the Rochester All-Access service this week, as I am planning to catch some non-conference basketball home games on their service this month as well.
Planning to watch the Brandeis women at NYU on the live video now, but I will have Emory at Rochester on live stats, and will watch that game on demand this weekend.
Later today, Chicago at Wash U.
Pool C candidates Chicago, Brandeis, Emory, CWRU and Carnegie Mellon trying to improve their resumes with a RvR. NYU also looking for another RvR as well. Assuming Misericordia wins today, NYU will also be on the national table first out of Region IV, but NYU looks most likely to remain on the national table without getting selected.
11:18 AM Eastern-- Scores are 0-0 at both Brandeis v NYU and Emory v Rochester. It looks like the NYU commentator has had problems with his microphone all morning. I can hardly hear him.
Brandeis has taken a 1-0 lead on NYU on a goal from Sydney Lenhart with an assist by Caroline Swan in the 25th minute.
Update-- The goal was scored off a set piece-- off Brandeis's 4th corner of the match.
According to the NYU commentator, it seems that the problems with his microphone have been mostly fixed. It is a little better, at least I can hear him when he is speaking with the microphone on. The microphone is still breaking up a little bit....
Halftime at Gaelic Park in New York-- Brandeis leading 1-0 over NYU at the half.
Brandeis is leading on shots, 8-2, and on shots on target, 5-0.
Brandeis has the edge on corners, 6-0.
NYU called once for offsides, while Brandeis was not called for offsides in the first half.
NYU committed 6 fouls to Brandeis's 5 fouls.
No bookings in this half.
Halftime in Rochester-- Emory and Rochester are deadlocked at 0-0 at the break.
Emory leading on shots, 8-5, and in shots on target, 5-1.
Emory leading on corners, 4-3.
No team called for offsides this half.
Emory committed 2 fouls to Rochester's one.
No bookings this half.
Brandeis now leading over NYU, 2-0, on a goal from Ruby Siegel with an assist from Lauren Mastrandrea in the 53rd minute.
Also in Region II, MIT is leading 1-0 over Springfield in the NEWMAC title game with a quick goal in the second minute. Brandeis undergrad Jonah White is doing the call of the NEWMAC women's championship game. An MIT win gets Brandeis first to the national table out of Region II and a Brandeis win today will most likely secure a Pool C bid for the Judges if it had not been already secured last weekend.
NYU just got one goal back. It is now Brandeis 2, NYU 1 in the 66th minute.
The NYU goal came in the 64th minute from Dominique Bevacqua, with an assist from Gabriella Funk. The goal came on NYU's first shot on target of the match.
Brandeis currently outshooting NYU, 10-5, and is leading in shots on target, 6-1.
Earlier in the half, Brandeis's second goal also came off a corner kick.
First UAA game of Matchround #7 is now final.
Brandeis 2, NYU 1 Final.
Brandeis improves to 11-4-2, 4-3 in the UAA. They will finish UAA play at 12 points and a -1 goal differential in UAA play. Brandeis temporarily takes over second place in the UAA table, pending the outcome of tomorrow's Case Western Reserve University at Carnegie Mellon match.
With MIT up 3-0 at halftime over Springfield in the NEWMAC women's title game, Brandeis will be the first team from Region II on the Pool C national table, and it seems obvious that Brandeis's resume will secure a Pool C selection for the Judges now.
NYU drops to 8-7-1, 1-5-1 in the UAA They will finish UAA play at 4 points and a -7 goal differential in UAA play.
In the other game in Rochester, it is still Emory 0, Rochester 0 in the 87th minute.
End of regulation in Rochester, NY
Emory and Rochester are deadlocked at 0-0 after 90 minutes.
The match is now heading to golden goal extra time.
After 1 period of extra time, Emory and Rochester are still deadlocked at 0-0.
Emory and Rochester finish Matchround #7 with a 0-0 draw after extra time.
Emory finishes UAA play at 8 points, and a -1 goal differential in UAA play. Emory finishes at 2-3-2 in the UAA, 11-4-3 overall.
Emory is now temporarily tied with Chicago for 5th place in the UAA.
Rochester finishes UAA play at 4 points, tied with NYU for 7th place, and a -5 goal differential in UAA play. Rochester finishes at 0-3-4 in the UAA, 6-5-5 overall.
With Centre losing yesterday in Region VI, and Emory just drawing with Rochester today, Emory is on the Pool C bubble, although the Eagles may still be on the bubble's good side given that Emory's 2 wins in UAA play were over the top 2 teams in Region VII (Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve University). Emory also tied with Centre in a scoreless draw earlier this season. If there is a down side, it is that Emory just drew on the road vs the bottom 2 teams in the UAA, and one draw is against a low ranked team in Region III. (#7 in Region III Rochester).
Heading to the match between the Wash U and Chicago Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon women, here is the active table on Matchday #7
1.) Wash U--- 15 16 points--+7 goal differential (Clinched UAA women's title, clinched AQ)-- 1 match left-- UAA play complete.
2.) Brandeis-- 12 points-- -1 goal differential-- UAA play complete.
3.) CWRU-- 11 points-- +3 goal differential-- 1 match left
4.) Carnegie Mellon-- 10 points-- +6 goal differential-- 1 match left.
5.) Chicago-- 8 9 points -2 goal differential-- 1 match left UAA play complete.
6.) Emory-- 8 points -1 goal differential-- UAA play complete
7.) Rochester-- 4 points -5 goal differential-- UAA play complete
8.) NYU-- 4 points -7 goal differential-- UAA play complete
Wash U and Chicago finish with a 1-1 draw today in the women's game.
UAA table will be updated to reflect this result.
Coming up at 11 AM Eastern Standard Time--
The top two teams in Region VII, Case Western Reserve University and Carnegie Mellon, will play each other to conclude the final round of UAA play for the season.
Both teams have great chances for being selected to the NCAA DIII Women's Soccer Tournament with a Pool C pick tomorrow, along with Brandeis, Chicago, and Emory.
Carnegie Mellon picked up a fourth win vs a DIII ranked opponent this week when Capital entered the Region VII rankings at #9, thereby guaranteeing the Tartans a fourth win vs ranked for selection purposes. CMU's other 3 wins vs ranked all occurred in UAA play, vs Brandeis, Chicago, and NYU. The Tartans also picked up a tie vs #7 in Region III rankings Rochester.
CWRU also picked up a win and tie vs DIII ranked opponents last week when the Spartans tied with #2 in Region VIII Chicago and defeated #1 in Region VIII Wash U after the Bears clinched the UAA title and AQ in 5 rounds of UAA play.
CWRU takes the lead, 1-0, on Carnegie Mellon on a goal from Anika Washburn in the 13th minute, with the assist by Aniya Hartzler.
Halftime in Pittsburgh--
Case Western Reserve University leading over Carnegie Mellon, 1-0, at the half.
Carnegie Mellon outshooting CWRU, 7-3, and is leading in shots on target, 3-1.
Carnegie Mellon leading on corners, 2-0.
Neither team called for offsides this half.
Carnegie Mellon committed 7 fouls to CWRU's 2.
Carnegie Mellon has been booked with 1 yellow card.
If this scoreline holds, then CWRU would finish in 2nd place at 14 points and a +4 goal differential in UAA play-- 2 points behind UAA champion Wash U.
Brandeis would finish in 3rd place at 12 points and a -1 goal differential in UAA play.
Carnegie Mellon would finish in 4th place at 10 points and a +5 goal differential in UAA play.
Final in Pittsburgh-- UAA Women's Soccer conference play is now complete for the regular season.
Final-- Case Western Reserve University 1, Carnegie Mellon 0
CWRU improves to 14-1-2 overall and finishes at 4-1-2 in the UAA. The Spartans finish in 2nd place in the UAA with 14 points and a +4 goal differential in UAA play.
Carnegie Mellon drops to 11-5-1 overall and finishes at 3-3-1 in the UAA. The Tartans finish in 4th place in the UAA with 10 points and a +5 goal differential in UAA play.
Brandeis finishes in 3rd place in the UAA-- 11-4-2 overall, 4-3 in the UAA. The Judges finish the UAA season with 12 points and a -1 goal differential in UAA play.
Final stats--
Carnegie Mellon outshot CWRU, 11-7, and led in shots on target, 4-3, for the match.

8.) NYU-- 4 points, -7 goal differential
D3Soccer.com analysis of who the National Committee may pick as Pool C later today came out this morning.
When Centre initially lost, I thought that Emory would be on the bubble, but after seeing how many wins Emory had vs ranked opponents this season, and seeing that Rhodes, the SAA AQ, lost to Emory and that the Emory vs Rhodes game counts as an RvR game, I put Emory back in a safe position.
I ran through the first 12 Pool C picks before stopping, so I did not go all the way down to pick #20, but I had 5 UAA teams and 3 NESCAC teams in the top 12 Pool C picks as well, along with Centre, Johns Hopkins, and Ithaca. I had UW-La Crosse at #12 and Lynchburg at #13, while D3Soccer.com had Lynchburg at #12 and UW-La Crosse at #13. I also agree with D3Soccer.com that NYU will be on the national table out of Region IV, but not get picked.
It just seemed that yesterday's CWRU vs Carnegie Mellon game was just to determine which of the two teams would get in as a Pool C pick before the other, as both teams had their Pool C invites secure before the game....
Tuning into NCAA.com at 1 PM Eastern for the announcement.
