Title: UAA
Post by: overtime on November 15, 2022, 07:59:29 PM
4 teams in the tourney and 4 teams on to the sweet 16.  Very
Impressive and proves that NYU and or Rochester should have been in the field as well.  Once again the deepest conference in women's D3 soccer.  Good luck to all remaining teams.

UAA is very good, for sure.  Sadly, three of those teams are playing at CMU and only one can advance.  It will be cold in Pittsburgh.  We shall see.

Looking forward to the showdown with Hopkins tomorrow.  It should be a good one.

Good effort by Case today.  These were the "players mentioned" in the Hopkins recap.  While this is permitted by the NCAA rules, it's certainly not in the spirit of D3 to load up your squad with a boatload of one and done former D1 athletes.

#20 Rachel Jackson - F 5' 9" Graduate Student (D1 James Madison transfer JHU fifth-year)
#15 Katie Sullivan - F 5' 7" Sophomore
#00 Emma Huntzinger - GK 5' 10" Graduate Student (D1 Rutgers transfer)
#4 Breukelen Woodard -M 5' 7" Graduate Student (D1 South Carolina / Penn transfer)
#5 Kacie Filian - M/D 5' 9" Graduate Student (D1 St. Bonaventure transfer)

#11 Maria Romo-Nichols - F 5' 6" Freshman
#33 Kendall Dandridge - D 5' 7" Graduate Student (D1 Fordham transfer)
#42 Rebecca Rosen - M/F 5' 9" Graduate Student (D1 Brown transfer)

Messiah fan here...Rachel Jackson went to James Madison H.S. and not JMU ...I think... amazing player either way.

Case parent here...no sour grapes towards Hopkins and thier roster.  Both teams laid it on the line yesterday and showed they were the 2 best teams in D3 this season.  Congrats to Hopkins and so proud of what Case accomplished this year.

I guess the Rutgers Graduate Student transfer beat out the Illinois State Graduate Student transfer, who was #8 All-Time in saves for the Redbirds, for the Goalkeeper position. For sure it's not in the spirit of Division III, but this is what the NCAA created when they granted the extra year of eligibility because of Covid. Still, the Hopkins coaches must have burnt the midnight oil in order to wind up with nine graduate students on their roster with about 25 years of D1 experience. A much better story on the men's side with coach Julianne Sitch leading the University of Chicago to the national title... with no graduate students.

As phil eluded to, Johns Hopkins also had #1 Priya Gillan - GK 5' 7" Graduate Student (D1 Illinois State transfer) on the bench.

On the other side, Case Western Reserve had two grad student D-I transfers:
#11 Fwd Camryn Hartman (Grad Student - D-I Univ. of Cincinnati transfer):  22 starts, 14 goals, 10 assists (both led team)
#27 Fwd Samantha Cramin (Grad Student - D-I Iowa transfer):  22 games played (0 starts), 7 goals, 3 assists

Had to go to the basement to find this thread and dust it off!  :)

I wanted to post about Case Western but didn't think I should use the "2026 Women's Soccer Top 25" thread since they are not top 25 (at this point anyway).

It appears CWRU is on a Michigan trip today and tomorrow.  In a half an hour they play Hope at Hope's field (about a 5 hour drive from Cleveland) then tomorrow at 4:30pm they play Calvin at Calvin in Grand Rapids, MI before heading home.  I'm assuming they will be staying overnight somewhere in Michigan rather than drive all the way home and back.

Tomorrow's game between Case Western and Calvin should be a good game to watch.  Both teams were in the preseason top 25 and both teams got bumped out in the 'National - Poll 1 - September 15, 2026'

Case Western goes up 1-0 with a goal by #35 Izzy Probst (sophomore) within the first 3 minutes.  She was the rookie of the year in the UAA last year!  She is now the leading scorer for CWRU this year with her 4th goal.

CWRU scores their second goal on an rough turnover by the Hope defense just outside the 18.  They now lead 2-0.

After the first goal the team ran over in front of the bench, sat down on the turf, and did the viking row as a celebration.

Interesting - with 20 minutes gone in the first half Hope leads in shots 5 to 2 and shots on goal 3 to 2.  The difference, obviously, is that both of CWRU shots found the back of the net.

With 10 minutes left in the first half, the stats are pretty even: 5-5 shots, 3-3 shots on goal, and 1-1 on corners.  Still 2-0 with CWRU in the lead.

In the Case Western vs Hope game, the score shows CWRU up 2-0, but the game feels a little more even then that.

Hope scores a goal with 21 minutes left to bring the score CWRU 2 - Hope 1.  Goal scored by #28 Alexis Suptela.

However, that would not be enough because Case Western, despite giving up a goal played better in the second half.

CWRU outshot Hope 9-3 in the second half and 5-1 shots on goal.

Now, Case Western needs to get ready for tomorrow's game against Calvin at 4:30.

Case Western maybe bit off a little more than they could chew playing back to back games and having to face Calvin on day two in Michagan.

Calvin out shot them today 17-4 and 9-4 shots on goal and a whopping 17-3 on corners!  With all that advantage in the stats, Calvin is able to come away with just a one goal advantage and secure a home win 2-1 over CWRU.

This may be the result that will allow Calvin to get back into the top 25.
