I think Amherst is 0.25 also, unless I am using an incorrect calc, or perhaps there is a new version of Amhate involving statistical exclusion.

It's certainly possible that the everyone, including the NCAA, is out to get Amherst, but this is because of the cutoff date. The leaderboard has a cutoff date of Sept. 16th.

The larger list indicates it was updated Sept 18 at 10:22 am based on games as of Sept 17, so it includes the Amherst-WPI shutout victory, while the leaderboard does not.

Phew! You didn't strike me as an Amhater, Kuiper, although you may just be very good at covering it up 😁.

No Amhate here. Out here in Region X land, we're too busy trying to get people in the D3 world to acknowledge we exist at all to cast any aspersions. And, of course, as the Texas Lutheran-St. Thomas game last year demonstrates, we have more than our fair share of issues with fouls and player conduct!
These stats are not entirely accurate. As of the 9/16 cutoff, Nathan Donovan @ Eau-Claire had 11 goals, not 8 as reported. And BTW, he just scored again last night to give him 12.

No idea why that is incorrect. It's not the dates, as you mentioned, and I checked back and the NCAA site's box score for the 9/14 game does record his three goals. I also checked back his three previous games with hat tricks on the NCAA site and they record those as well (sometimes schools fail to send in the stats to the NCAA site). It must be human error unless the stats from one of his games doesn't count for some reason.
Through Sept 24 (FYI: I confirmed a few of the stats against what is on their team's page, but these numbers are otherwise NOT audited by Price Waterhouse or anyone else and are taken directly from the NCAA site ;)). I also think that some of these Upper Midwest schools must be playing soccer and others must be picking daisies because the first group is running up the scores on the second group, which may explain why the top scorers are disproportionately from this region of the country.

Who had Wilmington as the top scoring team in D3 this far into the season? After scoring 28 goals all season last year (in which they finished 4-11-2), they have 60 thus far this season (and are 9-0-3). To be sure, they played a much easier non-conference schedule in 2024 than 2023 (and it's about to get much harder in conference), but even against opponents they played in both years the turnaround has been dramatic. They scored 1 each against Hanover and Franklin last season, and 3 and 9, respectively, this season. Parker Burke, a freshman, has 18 goals on 29 shots on goal in 12 games. He's scored at least 1 goal in 10 out of the 12 games, including two against Wittenberg, which tied Ohio Wesleyan 1-1 the next game. How did the rest of the OAC/NCAC miss this kid from Xenia, OH?

One of the misleading things about the offensive stats is that there are certain teams around the country that are epically bad. I don't mean they have poor records. There are lots of teams that have lost a ton of games, but often by 1-0, 2-1 margins and have had some ties too. These are teams that are really, really out of their element.
The upper midwest seems to have several epically bad teams that are really bad - not just can't score but play hard bad, or technically weak, but foul a lot bad - really bad. As in, they often don't have enough players to field a full team bad.
Northland is one of those teams. The college was very close to closing in the spring, many of their players transferred, recruits went elsewhere, and they just don't have the bodies to compete. So, when you see that Wisconsin-Superior is the highest scoring team in the country, it's because of games like the one today against Northland, which only had 11 players available, and it looks like one player could only play 72 minutes and another played 88 minutes, both without anyone substituting in for them.
Wisconsin -Superior 15 - Northland 1
- They outshot Northland 55-1
- Two players with hat tricks
- Two players with braces
- Five other scorers
Wisconsin-Superior beat them 14-0 the first time the two teams played this season, so this was no surprise for the coaches or the players. Some of these Wisconsin-Superior kids have built up a career's worth of goals in two games against Northland.
If coaches just lazily vote for All-American squads based on goal/assist tallies, the first team will be dominated by players from teams like Wisconsin-Superior in the upper midwest. Perhaps many of those kids deserve recognition. I'm only asking coaches from other regions of the country to take the additional time to see how those players did against stronger teams before they turn in those ballots, because there are some inflated scores up there.
Definitely wondered about if W-S was some sort of powerhouse.
Wow, just looked at Northland's stats. Scored 10 goals and gave up 91. Their keeper has made 175 saves with an average of 5.69 goals per game. FYI, the kid is from Miami, FL. He is going to have an awesome winter. I guess it could be worse. Hah. Also saw that they have 14 freshmen.
