Time to start the 2025 thread with the release of Poll #1 from the United Soccer Coaches.
With NPI, this is basically just for fun and conversation, but it is fodder for social media and gives a sense of how the season is going for teams at a glance.

I know it is extremely early, but this poll is already showing the continued incompetence of United Soccer Coaches when it comes to rankings. The regional rankings are further proof. Something to monitor throughout the year, but as stated above, thank goodness for NPI!
Is that Trinity NESCAC? If so, when was the last time Trinity got ranked?

Ok, now this is ridiculous.

Trinity College (CT) is NESCAC. Trinity University (TX) is SAA.
With Tuesday's 2-0 win over USJ, Trinity (CT) has already won as many matches as all of last season.

Total East Coast bias here! If they were going to honor a loveable loser for winning an early season game or two, Caltech is 3-1 and Pomona-Pitzer is 4-0! (Seriously, though, if it wasn't just a few coaches picking the wrong "Trinity" by mistake, this may have been one of those deals where coaches saw Trinity's win over University of St. Joseph's (CT), recalled that USJ won a lot of games last season and lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament to Wesleyan 2-0, and decided Trinity must have turned the corner without realizing that USJ lost to Wheaton (MA) 9-1 in its previous game).
IF so, another reason the coaches polling in most sports is pretty flawed. It's not like they would've had a ton of results to pore over to dig that fact up. 9-1 kind of jumps off the page, right?

And The TX Trinity will keep the bus warm for halftime!

For what it's worth, we're not taking the #8 too seriously at North Park. Sure, it's popped up in NPU press releases, but that's just PR in order to garner interest and draw viewers to our Viking Sports Network livestreams. And, yes, the Vikings are good this season, but everyone's well aware that a jump from no preseason votes at all to #8 only two games in is pretty ridiculous.
It really just makes me miss the D3soccer.com guys and
their poll all the more.

Soon.... soon....
SC.
I should expand on my comment upthread. Coaches polls are dumb.
(tempted to leave it at that)
These guys are busy. It's not their job to find the 9-1 loss on a team that is secondarily removed from what appears to be a "good result."
But, as Mr. Sager implies, we get what we get and we don't get upset.
Simple Coach has his biases (which I often share) but you know he's going to look at the entire picture, because... He has devoted the time to do so.
I know I'm stating the obvious to many, but I sort of feel like this board needs more real talk.
I look forward to the SC poll for the reasoning, which the other polls lack. Probably even more so this year because run away teams are still not clear to me at least.
It was around this point a year ago a loaded MWU squad was #1. Who are this year's MWU and why?
Notable drops from last week's poll include Cortland's drop from 4 to 9 after losing at Rowan, Roanoke's drop from 15 to 23 after losing to Methodist, Oneonta's drop from 14 to 24 after losing to Vassar, and Illinois Tech drops from 23 out completely after losing to Lake Forest and North Central. Christopher Newport, Ithaca, and Calvin are the biggest risers, going from not ranked to 20, 21, and 22, respectively.

Disappointed to see Trinity (CT) drop out of the top 20 after a 1-0 loss to Middlebury.
Rowan lost to Haverford today. 2-0
Typed it all out and deleted.
coaches perceptions are their reality. Some head scratchers fosho!
Denison ties tonight; Rowan lost; who is next week's #1?
3 untied and unbeated teams behind those two.
Emory is #3 - two weaker opponents this weekend, is winning by larger margins enough?
Trinity is #4 - @ Hardin Simmons on Thursday; Christopher Newport Friday, win both and jump Emory?
Augsburg is #5 - nice win over G Aldophus tonight, weaker St. Mary's team ahead, is it enough to jump both?
Reaching #1 in the poll would be a nice achievement for any of these programs right now.

Good catch! They can't even blame that error on cutting and pasting from the last poll.
USC Regional Coaching Awards
I'm a little surprised that Trinity was left out, but given how inconsistent USC was in where to rank Trinity and Southwestern all season, I'm not sure if they lost out to Emory or Texas Lutheran. Harder to make the latter case, but TLU did have a good season.
NCAA Division III Men
Category Division - Region School Head Coach
NCAA Division III - Region I Tufts University Head Coach: Kyle Dezotell
NCAA Division III - Region II Wheaton College (Mass.) Head Coach: Bryan Waggoner
NCAA Division III - Region III Hobart College Head Coach: Shawn Griffin
NCAA Division III - Region IV Rowan University Head Coach: Scott Baker
NCAA Division III - Region V Dickinson College Head Coach: Jorge Chapoy
NCAA Division III - Region VI Emory University Head Coach: Corey Greiner
NCAA Division III - Region VII College of Wooster Head Coach: Andy Zidron
NCAA Division III - Region VIII Washington University (Mo.) Head Coach: Andrew Bordelon
NCAA Division III - Region IX St. Olaf College Head Coach: Justin Oliver
NCAA Division III - Region X Texas Lutheran University Head Coach: Eddie Salazar
GMAFB - USC had Trinity in Region X all year. National runners-up and you lose out to a coach whose team's overall record this year (.690) was actually behind that of the previous year (.719) and only got into the NCAAs because they no longer had to deal with either Southwestern or Trinity in their conference.
Not to mention Trinity defeated three region's winners, too (Emory, WashU, TLU [twice])
Adam Knutson of Trinity (TX) named United Soccer Coaches Player of the Year (https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/united-soccer-coaches-announces-2025-players-of-the-year-across-all-levels/)
