Quote from: hazzben on April 28, 2025, 04:26:59 PMDoes he have to give the NIL money back  ;)  ;D

All $75 of it.
I heard it was two free pies at Gary's Pizza.  Hard to give that back...

Quote from: sjusection105 on April 16, 2025, 08:13:20 PMRemember that in the 70's UMM was a completely different institution, turning out a lot of Ag and PE majors.

Now it's mostly band geeks (like my sister and her husband  ;) ).
At the time the coach, Al Molde, was recruiting guys coming out of the military.  Guys were older and more mature physically and mentally.

Quote from: Flynntowne on April 16, 2025, 01:12:26 PMAccording to the St. John's football archives, the football team's first loss against Morris was in 1975, by an 8 - 6 score. So, in the three years from 1975-1977, SJU was 0-2-1 against the Cougars.
Forgot about 1975.  It was a LONG time ago.   :P

Quote from: faunch on April 15, 2025, 07:09:40 PMI feel like I'm one of the only Johnnies that never really knew Fr. Don. I feel like I maybe had a brief chat with him once...my loss for not having any personal Fr. Don anecdotes.

On another note...SJU released their 2025 schedule. The SOS takes a hit with week two non-conference game hosting UMN-Morris. Might be good to not have top ranked opponent as the Johnnies will be breaking in a new QB. The Johnnies actually are all time .500 vs the Cougars (2-2-1).

The tie was in the national championship season of 1976
The loss was in 1977, when we should have won another national championship.  Maybe that was an omen.  We $hit the bed against Wabash.

Rest in peace, Fr. Don.

Legendary.  When I think of St. Johns Father Don is one of the first things that pops up.  When I was in school, he was the student chaplain.  Later the alumni chaplain.  He was always my chaplain. An exceptionally kind and thoughtful man.  I loved running into him at football games and chatting with him.  He always called me "Mr. Ward."

He impacted the lives of countless people.  Not just Johnnies.

I recommend checking out his Daily Reflections:   Fr. Don's Daily Reflection — Saint John's Abbey

Quote from: DuffMan on March 30, 2025, 03:59:06 PMLast time the Johnnies and Scots met was my junior yet, and I just turned 44.  :o
I was 45 at that time.  8-)

Unless it is homecoming I may pass.  I really don't enjoy blow outs.

Quote from: faunch on March 03, 2025, 01:46:58 PMHow does U of Chicago get to host with an 18-7 record, pool C bid and 34 NPI?

Because Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball are hosting.
St. Johns got jobbed because Chicago is within 500 miles of all three schools in the pod, St. Johns is not.

I guess the good news is St. Johns often does not do well with home court advantage.  Still, I'd have liked the opportunity to attend a game.

Quote from: Retired Old Rat on January 21, 2025, 10:47:27 PMSCSU has to be good at something (other than hockey).

They're very good at wrestling.

Yes, forgot about that.  They are very good indeed.

Quote from: wildcat11 on January 21, 2025, 08:09:27 PMLinfield has a 9 game schedule in 2025, IMO.
I'm surprised they still show up on your schedule.  They are not a school.  They appear to me to be an attempted scam of some kind.  Given the "coach's" track record...

Bob Z, congrats to your daughter and her teammates.  I didn't see you at the tailgate either.  It was pretty crazy.

Well, it looks like Minnesota is #1 in at least one athletic category.

SCSU has to be good at something (other than hockey).

Quote from: olddog on January 20, 2025, 11:13:08 AMI think it is going to be a great day today.
Yes, great day to celebrate the legacy of MLK, Jr.

Bob Z, how did the CSB dance team do at Nationals?  WCCO TV gave a lot of coverage to the Gopher squad.

Sam Darnold cost himself 10s of millions over the past two weeks.  Somehow, I think he'll still make do on the $10m or so a year he made this year and will likely collect similar amounts the next few years.  Somewhere else.

Quote from: DuffMan on January 07, 2025, 07:17:28 PMAs a fan: Awesome
As a high school QB: Why on earth would I go to SJU?

My thought exactly when I heard about the USD kid.  Skip the year sitting on the bench at SJU and go straight to Bethel, GAC, Concordia, etc.

Sweet.  Toyota paid for those, not Purdy.

I hope Deshawn Watson is buying his guys Lamborghinis or Ferraris.  With his own money.

I'm guessing Kirk Cousins will be buying his guys Vespas.
