Also, the SCAC had 12 schools participating last year and 10 the prior year with Trinity and Southwestern opting out. So some part of the increase in Total Live Viewership could be that more games were on-platform.

What's the deal with the SAA, why does it seem like everyone is abandoning ship?

July 13, 2026, 09:04:07 AMQuote from: DagarmanSpartan on July 10, 2026, 10:40:15 AMI can't lie though. I'm a little bummed that the D3 sports action that I used to stream in for free will now actually cost something. I hope that the athletic department at CWRU sees at least some of that money.
I agree that most of us feel "a little bummed" about costs, but IF broadcasts improve under Flo and IF athletic departments see the revenue increase it could be a good (or at least neutral) thing for D3.
My concerns are:
- I have personally seen little evidence that broadcast quality/consistency improves a measurable amount under these deals.
- I'm not convinced the deals with conferences are for "enough money" to improve hardware and increase staffing to sustain improved quality (much less increase wider department staffing).
- I see it as a limiting factor to the potential exposure of D3 athletics to the wider sports audience.
Flo has said that:
"Beyond live competition, FloSports will also invest in original content and storytelling initiatives online and across social media aimed at elevating the profile of student-athletes and institutions"
But I have largely not seen that to be the case.

July 09, 2026, 08:03:30 AMQuote from: goodknight on July 09, 2026, 07:56:02 AMCalvin picks up another transfer -- Malachi Hooser II from Albion. Hooser comes to Calvin with two years of eligibility remaining. He started 24 games for the Brits last year and will add speed and shooting ability to the Knights' roster. He averaged just under 10 points a game and shot 45 percent from beyond the arc and 85 percent from the charity stripe.
Looks like a really nice addition for Knights. He was also 2nd on the team in assists and had a 1.3 A/TO ratio.
Shouldn't let these GR Christian grads get away in the first place!

June 29, 2026, 01:31:43 PMQuote from: Kuiper on June 26, 2026, 06:41:26 PMAnother item on the agenda that could be of interest is rethinking the the automatic qualification process and how it might be perversely affecting conference affiliations and travel/expenses:QuoteRethink championships automatic qualification – address unintended conference
behavior driven by AQ requirements. Preserve championship access by identifying
opportunities for stability and cost savings to reshape conference realignments
decisions for AQ access that may result in inefficient, unstable membership
outcomes.
I believe one aspect they are (or were) specifically looking at is the C2C model where conference members don't need to play a conference schedule in order to be AQ eligible.

Flo College did publish a greatest sports dynasties story last week, so they are doing things. Limited things.
It seems strange that Johns Hopkins lacrosse and St. Thomas football made the list by the way, especially with the obvious recency bias.
You have to favor the recent dynasties to pick NYU Women's Basketball over the other more storied UAA program.
And Calvin volleyball?
https://www.flocollege.com/articles/15882801-the-greatest-d3-sports-dynasties-ever
The Calvin volleyball dynasty could almost be called the Kamp dynasty. In the 11-year stretch from 2008-2018, eight MIAA MVP awards awards were collected by Calvin's string of Kamp sisters.
Rebecca Kamp (x3), Lizzie Kamp, Maggie Kamp (x2), Anna Kamp (x2)
In that span, Calvin also had six AVCA D3 National Player of the Year winners, including each of the four Kamp sisters above, won three national titles, and two national runner-up finishes. There were other amazing players who weren't all related to each other as well, but it was a pretty incredible run for the program and family!

May 15, 2026, 10:57:51 AMQuote from: Jake Feldman on May 14, 2026, 02:11:07 PMIF we had most of the D2 schools move down to D3, that may necessitate a split to maintain competitive balance in the division.
My baseline assumption is programs coming to D3 from 'higher' levels will struggle for a while as they adjust to turning over their roster and recruiting without scholarships to offer.

Coaches, I presume, would rather have too much talent than too little. I'm guessing you have your varsity contributors in the post-Jalen era already penciled in.
Everyone will have the opportunity to compete for playing time in the fall, and I believe Coach Sall and the Calvin staff do a good job honestly communicating with recruits and seem to set realistic expectations with where they see them fitting in.
Case in point: during this year's MBB banquet, Luka Ressler recounted his recruitment and how Sall told him he saw him beginning as a JV player. Luka got to work proving what he could do and started 17 varsity games as a freshman.

I think we're at the point when most all-region caliber players are going to check out their opportunities?
I don't see him as a D1 guy, so hopefully he'll return to Hope. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not a scout.
