Well, the first half has pretty much been a disaster, just took one bad pass and everything went to hell.  Who is going to step up and say enough?

Quote from: Whitecarrera on September 17, 2025, 09:35:05 AMDr - that is a perfect example, as this Twitter post confirms. And if you look at the pictures you'll see two sets of hash marks (pic 1) and adjustable goalposts (pic 2).

Whitecarrera, Did you see both teams and the NCAC officials allowed the Oberlin / John Carroll game to have 12 minute quarters instead of 15 minutes?  Perfect example if both teams agree to a slight change from the normal NCAA regulations, it is fine.  The shorter game potentially hurt John Carroll players from making more yardage or setting records, and thus not getting potential awards or recognition.  But the shorter game was for player safety, so a good move.
The announcers stated that all NCAC coaches agreed that their games against Oberlin would be 12 min quarters.. I cannot confirm that is the case, but guess we'll see with each game for Oberlin moving forward? Either way, as a new member to the conference, I cannot help but wonder how long will Oberlin field a team? Is there a world where they drop football outright? Obviously one big reason schools have been fielding, or adding, football was for the enrollment boost; but with Oberlin being a school that has no worries of closing while only fielding 30 plus players, it does not seem that they need football? Just curious as the Newb to the NCAC

I think there is a legitimate concern that Oberlin doesn't even finish this season, much less field a team in the future.  Football hasn't been a priority for years, and they clearly aren't using football to help drive enrollment or raise money.  Tough situation but short of a seismic shift in their universe where somebody cares enough to make it viable, I fear the end is near for that program.

Fun fact - last time Ohio State football lost to an in-state team was in 1921 - to Oberlin!  Programs have gone a slightly different direction since then.

Congrats to DePauw, 10-0 is a hell of a season.  Do some damage in the playoffs.

Interesting that we will have a game next weekend in Canton.  I like the idea.  Curious to see how many players (seniors) opt out of playing.  Sounds like it's Jake's game to run.

Well, that optimism lasted until the second half started...

Ok, a little cause for optimism going into halftime...

FINAL

Hell of a game.  LG's still alive in the conference hunt.

Quote from: Whitecarrera on October 29, 2024, 06:07:33 PMLet's keep a little perspective about where those fans might come from.  When you consider that Whitewater's current enrollment is larger than Wabash's entire living alumni base, then packing Hollett and Blackstock is probably about right.

The Hoosier Dome would've been cool when it was brand new, but I can't even think of a suitable place to play a game like that today.  A half empty Lucas Oil is about as exciting as Cheez Whiz nachos and $15 beers -- Have you been to the Indiana HS championships in the last 20 years?

The only other place that would be reasonable (seating and distance) would be Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute (seats 12,000 without special accommodations).  But all the seats are on one side, so probably not a great solution!

Congrats to DePauw for cracking the Top 10.  If we win the next couple games and eke out a Bell victory, could be a two bid league?

Quote from: Pat Coleman on October 24, 2024, 01:46:51 PMBetween the 25% of Division III which is state schools, the eight UAA members and schools like them such as Tufts and MIT and Johns Hopkins, plus other large private schools such as Ithaca and Chapman and Catholic and the like ... Division III is not as "small liberal arts college" as people think.

The average full-time undergraduate enrollment of a school with Division III football is 2,250. And yes, WashU at 7,401 is almost 2-1/2 times larger than Oberlin at 2,978 (numbers submitted to the U.S. Department of Education) and Wabash's enrollment is smaller than a lot of schools for one statistically important reason, right?

Definitely true when discussing enrollment, Wabash needs adjusted for comparative purposes.  Probably lands in the 2,000-2,200 range (still way shy of Washington, whose enrollment isn't surprising after driving past their campus this past summer, but much closer to the average).

Oberlin 0
Final

Second half was played with 12 minute quarters and a running clock.

Watching the video, Wabash took a knee deep in Oberlin territory to end the half, then the coaches met to discuss exactly what you mentioned above.  Which I wholeheartedly endorse.

Major props to the Oberlin players for their efforts knowing it generally won't end well on the scoreboard.  And to Wabash for sportsmanship in a mismatch.

Pretty impressive road win for the LG's today.  Campbell looked good, and Tyler did whatever he wanted.  Wooster broke off a long TD run early but not much after that.  Solid overall effort.

Campbell is QB1, and Dickerson is P.  Injury to White costing him at least one more week.

Quote from: sigma one on September 15, 2024, 08:52:32 AMWhat a weird game yesterday.  OWU ran 14 plays inside the Wabash 10 yd line and came away with 13 pts (missed an Xpt).  They out gained the LG's 425/285 and had 8 more minutes of possession.  Wabash got 6 sacks, 2 INTs, and a fumble recovery along the way to a 30-13 win.  I know I have never seen a stranger game at Little Giant Stadium

Defense bent (a lot), but didn't really break.  Very opportunistic.  Buza played well but when he had a hiccup it was very costly to OWU.

Quote from: DePauwalum05 on September 14, 2024, 04:09:35 PMPerhaps DePauw's dominant 33-0 win at #22 Berry will gain some respect for the NCAC.

-Pre-season All America Berry RB Cade held to 2.8 yards per carry and 74 total;
-Berry 2 for 17 on converting 3rd downs
-Vikings with 70 yards rushing and 73 passing
-DPU offense did not look especially sharp against a physical opponent, but made big plays to break away on the shoulders of stout D

No one expected this lopsided of an outcome.  Shout out to Pat Coleman for predicting the top 25 upset.  Looks like a good showing by Denison against Alma as well -

Shutout on the road against a ranked opponent?  Damned impressive.  OWU has put up a good fight today, but turnovers have killed them.
