Driving up from Florida to Pittsburgh on the way home to Michigan. Got a room 2 miles from the arena for Thursday night. If Hope wins, might be a problem getting a room for Friday night. Just realized Division I Men have a sectional on Friday less than 1/2 mile from the women's arena.

One of the reasons why the women's semifinals was moved up one day to Thursday!!

Calvin's Luke Morrison is a Co-SIDA First Team Academic All-American.

He's a CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 performer. One more step in order for him to become an Academic All-American. I am only correcting you since I am the CoSIDA National Coordinator for the DIII/NAIA men's basketball program.

RMC loses and, I couldn't see the score on the grainy video, but Finlandia did manage to lose to that Community College.

Looking at the archive of the video, it appears the final was 76-68.

Every MIAA team has a BYE this Saturday.   Has that ever happened in any Conference at any time?

For sure it has.  I don't have the inclination to dig for specific historical examples right now, but I do know that the NWC is all off this week as well.  I'm fairly certain that some of the 10 team leagues over the years have all played Week 1, off Week 2, and then Weeks 3-11 for conference games.

The OAC did that for many years where everyone played week 1, was off week 2 and started OAC play week 3. And then they went to some teams playing non-conference Week 1, some play non-conference week 2, and then start non-conference play week 3. I think it was last year where I saw some schools play non-conference week 1 and then start conference play week 2.

The non-conference opponents are the usual for the most part, though Chicago appears to be hosting St. Thomas and Nebraska Wesleyan in a tournament along with DePauw.

I might need to spend Thanksgiving weekend in Chicago!

FYI: The tournament at Chicago (with DePauw, Nebraska Wesleyan and St. Thomas is the weekend before Thanksgiving. Turkey Day in 2019 is at late as it can be on Nov. 28.

The Flying Dutch jump right back into it Wednesday with a crucial league game hosting Trine.  Even though it's the first league game, it should establish the clear MIAA team to beat.

Not the first league game. Remember, the women play either three or four MIAA games before the holidays.

Wheaton (Mass.) wins!!!...errr...Loses..... Albertus Magnus schedule is posted... Leaving Wheaton as the only school NOT to have their 2018-19 schedule posted...  I guess the Staff was just too busy covering Wheaton's Football team

oh wait..... Wheaton doesn't have football.... ::) ::) ::)

I found this a few seconds ago.  Was it not up before?  Or are you dinging them because it says "tentative?"

Because it's "hidden".. if you hit schedule on their site, it still comes up the 17-18 schedule... most people wouldn't know to change the years in the title to get to the 18-19 schedule...

If you go to Basketball and then schedule under the Sports menu, you get the 2018-19 schedule.

Also, when, if ever, was the last time Hope and calvin both started MIAA play at 0-1?

Not in the 8 team MIAA era.  Prior to 2000 its difficult to reconstruct MIAA schedules as they didn't archive the date games were played.  In the 7 team MIAA league there was always one team with a bye.

That question was posed by a Facebook friend, and Alan Babbitt commented that he did the research. The last time was 1978. Hope lost to Adrian 77-75, Calvin fell to Albion 77-68.

Hope 91  St. Vincent 74

Fairly close contest most of the way, Hope finished on a strong run for the final margin.

J. Beckman 21, Hawkins 19, Towns 12, Ray 12, Granger 12

Hope's off tomorrow, play some school from Ohio on Thursday, Bald.......something, pretty sure they've never played in any significant soul crushing contests before.

Let me finish the name for you ....... Baldwin Wallace ... no worries, I was not present nor a student at the time of the significant soul crushing contest ...  ;D

The boxscore is hilariously inaccurate http://d3hoops.com/seasons/men/2017-18/boxscores/20171202_6x1y.xml?view=boxscore
That is a hoot, Sac . . . looks like the shooting you saw today was much better than the rebounding . . . though I guess with shooting like that, there wouldn't be many rebounds.

What's inaccurate? Between the missed shots from the field and the free throw line there were 13 available rebounds to get. ML got 4 boards and GLC 9. Looks about right to me. ::)

Here's a link to the Martin Luther at Great Lakes Christian women's game -- http://www.d3hoops.com/seasons/women/2017-18/boxscores/20171202_tktx.xml?view=boxscore ----- Pretty incredible that Martin Luther missed its only two shots in the first quarter and never missed a shot for the rest of the game ... or just incredible players got stats without playing any minutes ...  ???

Does Hope really play Baldwin Wallace TWICE in Orlando in a three days span?

Yes they do - the other school dropped out last minute.

The should play Baldwin one night, and Wallace the next.

Am I right?

Before it was Baldwin Wallace, it was Baldwin-Wallace, and before that it was Baldwin College (maybe University) and German Wallace College.

Olivet is beating ferris st at half by one.  This game is at ferris.
Another strange thing is Olivet and Ferris playing at 12:15 p.m. on a weekday with classes in session? Seems odd . . . but maybe there's an explanation.

It was a Kids' Day game at Ferris State. They invited students from neighboring schools to the game, and from what I was told, the students were transported to the game on school buses. They did the same thing a week ago when Olivet's women's team played an exhibition game against the Bulldogs.

How bout the Heidelberg Student Princes! They've knocked off the defending MIAC champs, a good D3 team in Ohio Northern, and the defending OAC champs. Not a bad start to the season.

I watched The Berg / JCU game today and Heidelberg looked solid with big plays on both sides of the ball. Heidelberg's D looks much better this year... not that they were bad last year, but the improved secondary is the big difference. And their Offensive playbook seems to have expanded a bit this year too. It would be great to see them continue to play like this all year.

A little correction ... Olivet is in the MIAA ... The MIAC is another conference!

General football / Re: Team Record Books
January 31, 2017, 10:38:43 PM
To add to Pat's post. Some schools have their record book online and some don't. And those who do, some have very nice record books and others not so nice. I know for myself, I told myself several years ago that I would spend a couple summers re-designing and enhancing the record books that I inherited when I started at Olivet. For example, the football one that I inherited did not have the actual day and location for every game in our history, so I researched to get that information. Other missing information were Top 10 lists for the statistical categories. The old book just had the record-holder. Here's a link to our record book -- http://olivetcomets.com/sports/fball/archives/FB_RECORD_BOOK.PDF -- still have some more enhancing to do by adding some defensive records but not sure on what to do with that because other than interceptions, my predecessors did not keep game/season/career reports for defensive stats (tackles, quarterback sacks, etc.). The few season sheets that I found for a couple years have obvious flaws.
