Quote from: cuaplayer on October 13, 2005, 04:11:29 PMWell said cuaplayer! A lot of fine players have been surrounded by poor teams or programs. Their talents were noticed but the "loser" tag was pinned on them and that overshadowed all else. It is so easy to criticize, but these are young men not professionals.
franknizzy,
add awkward and bublavi to the hold your breath list...didnt get the chance to see any W and L receivers so I can't say much about them besides the stats...I also hold my breath whenever cua has a lead with less than 10 seconds left
as for the qb argument,
BC posters really can be ridiculous sometimes. What do conference championships have to do with who the best qb is. We know that BC wins the ODAC every year, it doesn't mean the qb is the best. My answer is that you can't compare. BC is a loaded team where the qb only has to not lose. HSC is a pretty good team but needs JD to win it for them in any big game. Could BC still win the conference with a limited quarterback? Probably. Could HSC come close to beating Bridgewater with any other qb but Ricca? Probably not.
If you had to start a team right now who would you take as a qb? I suspect anyone who says anything other than Ricca is just a little biased.
Everyone talks about the system that HSC runs as if its simple. The screen is one aspect. It looks so easy usually because of how dangerous the qb is with his downfield talents.
I played in it for about 3 days and my head hurts just thinking about everything I had to remember and that was a wideout with only 5% of the offense installed.
It's great that BC has as much pride in what they have accomplished as they do. However, it won't take away from that if you acknowledge another player on another team who is obviously tops in the league at his position. In fact, by acknowledging Ricca's talents you would be inherently pointing out how talented the BC team is because he has never beat you. Has he even played another top notch program other than BC?
Its also pretty ridiculous to bash any kids(how old is the average poster..late 20s?) on here especially when alot of BC posters played during the 0-10 years. You know exactly how much dedication it takes to play d3 and I doubt you would have taken these comments if made about you lightly. To bash a 21-22 year old kid on a message board not only shows a lack of class, it's a little cowardly.
Wanna discuss football? fine.... but to basically start calling kids "losers" is crossing the line.

"..RICCA DOESNT PLAY D OR SPECIAL TEAMS.."
Ricca punts.. so yes he does play special teams..
Comparing Jenkins, Wakefiled and Lewis to Ricca is a fair comparison because they are the QBs he "played against" and they were/are the QBs in the BC system. You argued that Mike Clark of BC would want Ricca over any BC QB currently that is Jacob. However, having played within the BC system and against HSC I can honestly say there is no way they would take Ricca over any of the QB's we've had over the past 4 years. I'm sorry, Ricca is a great player but his stats will never add up to quality wins, ODAC Championships or Playoff wins. He's a good QB but certainly not the best the ODAC has ever seen or WILL ever see. He's not the end all. I'm not blaming him for losing to BC.. I never said he was at sole fault but he has been the key factor in the losses to BC. Ricca as a direct transplant into BC's system would not work, not to say he wouldn't be nice to have at times.
Folks,
Under a different system, BC's for instance, Ricca may have blossomed into a more complete and integral cog in the machine. The young man has talent and with different tutelage he may have surprised a lot of people by adapting to a more balanced attack. Less pressure on him to primarily carry the load may have yielded a different result. There is nothing wrong with objective analysis of any player, but a variables have to be taken into consideration.

One final question of ignorance...
What's the rule on kick catching interference? If a member of the kick returning team pushes a defender into the kick returner, is there a foul on the play? How do the refs determine how many penalty yards to add on (such as the 23 yard penalty today)?
The problem on that particular play was that even though there was contact on the "gunner"/kick cover man, he still reached out and pulled the right arm of the returner just prior to him catching the ball. This interference with the returner's opportunity to catch resulted in the penalty. Had the gunner been able to wait a split second all would have been well. As disappointing as it was, the call was correct.
