Thought I would check out the board. Have not been here in a while. Ferrum showing definite signs of life on the field, and have a pretty good collection of talent. Hoping for a .500 season this year. Doubt they are in the conference title talk right now, but I do believe they are headed in the right direction. I will have an article up on the blog today giving a lot of detail to the Panthers turning around #restoretheroar

Ferrum 26

Averett 14      Final

We have kept the streak in tact. This is the 60th year of Ferrum football, and there has never been a season where the team went winless. A win is a win.

Ferrum falls to 0-5 as the Scots win 23-13. It was a slopfest in Ferrum, but I doubt at the start of the season anyone would have thought it would have been that close. Nor do I think anyone would have thought Ferrum would only lose by 2 to CNU. Next week Huntingdon, at Ferrum. These two weeks have been rough, and I don't see next week being any easier, but Coach Harper said at the post game interview..."tough times don't last , but tough people do". The running back Shuler for MC is strong as an ox.

21-19. That was ugly. But like coach said, "smile, you just won a college football game". I think maybe we were still tired from Methodist. I bet our D was having Reber-mares all week long. The Ferrum QB is a big strong kid and a baller.

I was at the game, and I am really happy with the direction Ferrum is going....I saw something I had never seen before in this game. 2 dead ball fouls against Ferrum after a CNU touchdown....both imposed on the kickoff. CNU kicked off from the Ferrum 35. The Captains do not need that kind of help. Ferrum's D has gotten much better, and they had 425 yards of offense, but should have had more than 19 points with that many yards. Silly mistakes, to put it mildly. Besides the two mentioned above, there was a sideline interference penalty on a CNU touchdown....Captains kicked from the 50 that time. A blocked xp, and a missed 2pt. try.

Maryville this weekend....ugh. This is a tough stretch, but Ferrum is better this week than last.

Hey Narch, I gave you a point (applaud)...I think your mention of Ferrum is the first this season, by anyone on the board but me....They are having a rough year, and it does not look like the next three weeks will bring much hope for the Panthers...CNU, Maryville, and Huntingdon. I watched the game against NCW, and FC showed some real character. Down 27-14 at halftime, they came back, and went ahead 30-27.....then NCW blocked a punt, and two plays later, they were ahead 34-30....Ferrum went right back down the field, and on 4th and 10, Reynolds threw a hail mary to Matthew Kennell who made a great catch between two defenders in the end zone, but (according to the ref) he was out of bounds....it was very very close. From there NCW ran out the clock. Ferrum has a good amount of freshmen starting, and there is a huge learning curve, but Saturday, things seemed to somewhat fall into place.
Ferrum had 319 yards of rushing, and 163 yards of passing. Except for the blocked punt, Ferrum completely outplayed NCW in the second half. Alston, who is amazing, was pretty much shut down in the second half. Oh well...Hope springs eternal in the heart of a real fan....no matter what the record.

Methodist defeats Huntingdon 41-34 in OT. Both teams were very impressive.

Since Ferrum is off, not a lot to post about....any thoughts on Averett @ RMC?

Ferrum is picked 6th, and while I do not disagree with that, I do feel that Ferrum has taken some serious steps in the off season to show improvement in the coming seasons. Three new assistant coaches, two with solid credentials, and what looks like some really good recruits. That with some returners that will be impact players, and I think Ferrum is going to be more competitive than one may think. That being said, I still think sixth is a logical prediction.....mainly because this conference is getting stronger, and while the top five I agree, have the best chance of seriously competing for the title, The bottom four, can definitely have an affect on those standings.

How is the host of the USA South Media Day determined? Seems like this is the second time recently that Maryville has hosted, I know it has been at CNU in the last 3-4 years, and at Averett. Can anyone tell me if has ever been at Ferrum?

I spoke to Coach Harper the other day, and he shared this story with me. I thought I would post the article.  Very Sad.

Is Ferrum that bad this year or has E&H really improved? Was not expecting that kind of score from that game.

I was not expecting that either, but I am not sure about the answer to your question. Ferrum lost almost their entire secondary to graduation. The E&H qb is the real deal. It was obvious that they would throw, but Ferrum did not help their cause. Reynolds threw for three int's. I think it is a case that Ferrum will improve as the season goes on, but they are young. In the present they are iffy, but the future is bright. They had over 170 in camp, and I spoke with the coach a little over a week ago, and they have a Freshman qb that he said is as good if not better than any qb that has been there in a while.
Keepin the faith, and my fingers crossed.

Just wondering where you guys are getting the schedules? I have not seen any posted. Why would'nt they just reduce the non conference games to 2, and everyone plays everyone in conference?

Was saddend to hear the news of the death of Ferum football player Zavier Stringfellow. Murdered on Friday. Fairfax County police have made an arrest. Thoughts and prayers go out to blackhat nation. And the Stringfellow family.

Ferrum had no answers today for MC...It was very disheartening. To get to that point, but again not get there. Go Methodist!
