Based on what I'm hearing and reading, Coach Harmon doesn't connect with players well as a head coach. This is troubling and needs to be addressed. He's had four years to get this team in the right direction and it isn't happening.

UMHB is not a shell of its former self. It is a rudderless ship, with pristine elements, floundering in a sea of opportunity.
I love Coach Harmon for what he has done for Cru Football. The meeting room to watch film can be named after him. But this is not working. He took a national championship team and has run it into the ground.
Every other team has transfers in and out. That is not the problem. The problem is the message being sent to carry on tradition and culture.

The qb we had last season was better than this!
Why does it seem that the current coaching staff is either unable or unwilling to find the best players and put them on the field?
I can take a loss, but the way we are losing like we've never run an offensive play is maddening.

Once again, Cru Football returns to mediocrity when all the talent of Texas football would lead you to believe they would recruit, train, repeat the success. But no.
WRs can't catch. QB can't hit open WRs. Defense looked fine in the first half but were gassed in the second half.
The return of our national championship offensive play caller has yielded little confidence that anything new will happen.
The QB we had last year was better than this. So disappointed.

Well, here we are. Another year of D3 Football.
So good to be back. It's always difficult to judge greatness in D3 until you get to the playoffs and look back on trends and trajectories. Being that as it may, here are my Hammonds's Highlights from week 1.
1. The presence of Michaux in the backfield was evident. After beginning the first drive with a pick 6, the D1 transfer quickly put it behind him and shook the first game jitters. His second int was an athletic play by the defensive player. The accuracy of his throws were otherwise impressive and it's easy to see why he was given the nod.
2. The young offensive line was impressive. They really came together and made holes for Ferguson, whose speed led to some huge gains. No sacks on the qb were also a pleasant sight.
3. Largest concern on offense? WR. Besides the Trinity transfer, the others missed "easy" catches that would have been hauled in by KJ Miller, TJ Josey, and others of WR stables past. This needs to get better.
4. Defensive line and LBs look very good. The pressure they put on a huge offensive line was wonderful. I don't recall so much pressure in recent years especially under Harmon. The LBs have that speed we need.
5. DBs need to play a cleaner, more controlled game. Though they stepped up in the second half, they need to shore this up. I want to see Scooby Carter get a chance.
That's it. That's my takeaways. We know what two weeks brings and what they will do. Yesterday's stats prove that.

Unfortunate end for the Cru in a very winnable game.
With the end as it is, I believe Harmon stays. Former players love him. Was that as a defensive coach or as a head coach? I don't hear positive things from current student athletes on campus about his style of head coaching. That being said, I believe he stays.
Defensively, we were very good this year. We beat UWW, avenged two losses to HSU, got past Trinity, and took care of a good Linfield team.
Offensively, we need to make a change. Not enough creativity in my opinion.
Former players and other Cru supporters, what are your thoughts?

Sooooo, glad UMHB is moving on. I've been critical of the program this year. I do apologize for the tone and way that I was critical. At the same time, I believe my concerns are warranted.
The offense most of the season has been stagnant. I do like that they've been able to come up with HUGE drives when they've been needed. Wright is doing a good job. The rushing attack has been great. Will be interesting to see how that adapts to the Blue Jay D.
My other concern comes from the post game conference after the HSU win. The question was asked why they could win now and what changed from the regular season. The response was that it was the playoffs and its win or go home. My worry is that this mentality wasn't had the previous two games and, I guess by default, the other games as well. Should this be a concern about mental preparation?
Anyways, here we are and the Cru have seemingly found their mental edge. Go Cru! Good luck. Go get it!

Of that first punt return. Pretty blatant block in the back. Tough
Stuff is missed all the time.
While the win is nice, the offense needs to be better. A lot of points left off the board.
Congrats HSU. It's a shame we can't ever be placed in opposing brackets. It happens for other conferences but not ours.
While the season has been less than ideal, it's great to see the Cru fight back. I've been very vocal of my frustrations over the play calling. While I do stand by the concern, I understand my comments can be hurtful. I apologize.
Did not get to watch the gave as I was taking my wife to DFW, but there is no place for the taunting and other poor sportsmanship. It's a different environment around the program with Coach Fred gone. Hopefully some of the tradition will return.

Worst day in UMHB football history. This is a team without identity.

Based on the little footage I've seen of HSU, the ability of UMHB to stop their running will be important. They have good RBs and can control the clock.
HSU gave up two sacks on Saturday. UMHB has been getting at the QB, so I think that could also be big. UMHB gave up a few deep balls Saturday. Will their CBs adjust and be able to lock down on the HSU WRs?
UMHB has looked really good on D. They stopped a high potency offense in ETBU. It's going to take a couple turnovers, and Phe needs to calm down and see the field. I really hope he is in the film room this week. The need to scan the field and avoid the INT is going to be crucial in this game.
Last season, UMHB had the talent to beat HSU but underplayed. The growth should reflect a new mind set and attack that I think will pay off. I think it will be a close game.
34-25 Cru.

I do not think they have any reason to sleep on anyone. They are still riding with a chip on their shoulder with guys like me riding their case and for not being taken seriously by the D3 world as a whole. They have a lot they still feel they need to prove and I don't blame them.
Should be an electric game. Looking forward to it.

I'm thankful this game was canceled. Playing UWW, no matter the outcome, will wear on your body. It's a good call. Let the boys heal up and get ready for what really matters.

WOW. UMHB looking like the UMHB of old.
Defense is playing very tough causing the Warhawks to change QBs.
Offense has not been great but opportunistic. Without the turnovers, this game could be an even wider gap. Phe has missed one throw that really was bad, but then he hits our WR with two guys covering him. I don't get it.
Really like what I see. Great job Cru!
