Interesting point about this CNU-Greensboro match-up in year's past CNU would play @ Methodist and then follow it up with Greensboro the following day.  (or vice versa)  There must be a rationale behind this because CNU men are not getting that extra day of rest.  Don't know if this was done on purpose or not.  I would expect CNU to get a shoot around in the gym in between games, or maybe they want to use that as a day of rest.

Coach Hunter is the one that made the change, I guess she has to get all the rest that she can get. When I left the gym tonight after the mens game they were in our gym doing a full on workout.

Whats up man, to be honest with you I dont know what to say on this game. Overall, I think that bothe of these two team have thier strong points. The big thing that The Pride have going with them is that they are playing on thier home court, it will be a game for the ages I do belive. GULLETT'S outcome guess Greensboro WINS in a very hard faught game 61-59. It will be fun to be at this game so if you are in town, come on out to Hanes for a doozy @ 2:00 PM!!!!!!

Wish I could be in town for it.  I expect a huge number of people to be watching the game on video, so get that video working right.  Play by play mic is perfect, color mic needs some fine tuning (very fuzzy, scratchy at times)

I want to be up there for the conference tournament, and as always willing to lend a hand.

the pbp mic is only like two years old and the other one has been there since our freshman year if not before.

USASouth Game of the Week:

14-1 CNU  @ 15-0 Greensboro

Summary:  History is already being made with this game, this will be the first time two ranked women’s basketball teams will take the court at Hanes Gym.  I believe this date has been circled on calendars of the coaches for quite some time now.  Some may argue who the conference rivals for these teams are within the conference, but with the level of play these teams have brought over the last few years, there is no doubt this is a conference rival game.  USASouth must have known something when the schedules were created.  This game will mark the 2nd half of Greensboro and CNU’s conference schedule.  This game could mean who will get home court “advantage” for conference tournament (new rules higher seed hosts each round.)

Why CNU can win: CNU is led by All-American Guard Chelsie Schweers currently averaging 24.9 pts/g and newcomer Tiffany Davis freshman transfer from Delaware State.  CNU comes into this season as the conference favorite, for good reason.  They returned all of their starters from a sweet 16 team.  They have the experience to match-up to a very important game.  This team leads the conference in numerous categories, including PPG and FG%.   They commit the fewest amount of TO’s and are #2 in A/G.  They have scored over 80pts in nearly half their games.  As of late Greensboro hasn’t played very well, despite the record.  Last game at Peace they turned the ball over 31 times over the last 4 games averaging more than 6 above their season average.  When you give a good scoring team like CNU extra chances, you will make it very difficult for your team to score.  Not to mention CNU does press and could get even more TO’s and easy baskets.  CNU’s defense has been stellar all year long, allowing teams to shoot around 34% and score just under 55 pts per game.  Greensboro isn’t the most efficient scoring team in the conference shooting just under 40% at 39.5%.  Overall with CNU’s ability to score and play defense this could go into their favor.

Why Greensboro can win: Greensboro has shown some grit and found ways to make close games into routs.  Greensboro is lead by Danielle Duncan inside averaging 22.1 PPG and 7.7 REBG.  CNU and many other posters on this board seem to think CNU will struggle against Duncan inside.  I tend to agree with them on this, but it isn’t Duncan, I think they will struggle with; it’s the board inside presence Greensboro brings.  There are rebounding teams and then there are athletic rebounding teams.  Greensboro is the latter; they are a very hard team to get a body on, because they are quick to the glass.  Greensboro may not be the most efficient scoring team, but they are #2 in scoring team (behind CNU) lead mostly by their ability to get to the line and make their FT’s.   CNU’s depth is a little deceptive, 10 players averaging more than 10 minutes per game, but when the game/level of play has been closer CNU’s starters play between 10-15 more minutes per game.  CNU will have to rely on the bench, and commit few fouls to stay on track.  Greensboro will continue to come after you from start to finish.

Outlook: I had a dream about this game the other night.  Neither team really shot well until I woke up. I didn’t see a winner.  Greensboro is 6-1 against CNU at home going back 7 years, losing only last year.  They did play CNU tough last year despite their record.  Of Greensboro’s 15 wins this year 10 have been away from Hanes gym. They will be ready to get some home games under their belt.   The game will be a Greensboro pack the gym night.  It only takes about 25 people pack that gym.  (If Greensboro really packs the gym, CNU players will be able to feel the breath of the fans they are that close.) CNU's only real test on the road so far has been W&L which they squeaked out 81-76.  CNU I think should be coming in here with a little more confidence sine they have been playing top-10 caliber basketball as of late.  Greensboro has been played some tight games (pulling them out on big runs) as of late, to teams not expected to win or compete for conference title.  CNU is not a team you can fool around with, CNU will not go away.  I don’t think Greensboro has been tested like CNU will test them on Sunday.  All that said I am going to masseyratings for a score.  Massey says 74-68 in favor of Greensboro.   I will take 5 points of both teams (my dream says they didn’t shoot well to start) Greensboro wins 69-63.

Hey guys, I hope that things are looking up for your teams at this point in the season. I have something that I have never seen before in ANY DIII game last night. In the final seconds of regulation last night here in Greensboro, GC was down by 3 to FC. GC had the ball and misses a 3 to tie but FC rebounded the ball and fell to the ground for a traveling call. So GC gets the ball back with just over 4 sec. on the clock.  The ball was put in play, and GC got a 3 off at the horn and was ruled the shot was good on the court. BUT WAIT, right before they got set to start the OT period I look up and here come the officials to THE GAME TAPE AND REVIEWED IT. It was a great shot by Pernell Davis that went in. After review it was deemed a good basket. HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN A MONITOR (GAME FILM) REVIEW IN DIII BY THE OFFICIALS!!!!  It was a first for me.

FYI and taken verbatim from today's Greensboro News & Record:

The Greensboro College men's team added a game to its 2009-10 season.  The Pride will host Concord (WV) University on Jan. 11 at Hanes Gym.  Greensboro and the Division II Lions will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

I've rarely seen a game added so late in the season.  Perhaps this is a reflection of GCP's rather tumultuous year and the somewhat, at times, unsettled AD role.

There is no connection between GC adding a game the state of GC and the AD. Coach does the scheduling and added So. Virginia in similar way a few years ago.

BTW, looking for 6th straight when Mary Wash. comes to town on Sunday

The game between Methodist and Greensboro last night was ugly. The first half was great each team struggled to get any real offense going and the defenses were playing great. a 4th and goal from the one for greensboro was stopped and methodist defense looked like they came to play for once. it was 7-7 going into the half. the second half was a different game tho. greensboro came out and just spanked methodist and their defense. a defense that allows 230 yards rushing a game and 180 a game this year came out in the second half and greensboro exploited them. someone on here said greensboro only averaged 64 yards rushing a game but last night they rushed for 126 and passed for 297. Greensboro was able to run the ball up the middle pretty well. not as easy as other teams have but thats also not greensboro main game plan. they were able to pass the ball at will against the methodist defense as well. there were two interceptions one by a corner for methodist and it was a really nice interception but other then those two turnovers the greensboro passing game tore methodist apart. missed tackles killed the team as well. there were times when the running back should have been stopped at the line but the defense could not wrap up or run their feet on contact. they kept letting the runningback move the pile forward. the defense performed well but for some reason still can not stop the running game up the middle. besides the game up the middle, the few explosive plays that could have all come back from either holding or pass interfernce, the defensive players should not be ashamed.

for the officiating, it may have been the worst game to watch. 14 penalties for MU and 11 for GC. there were personal fouls almost every other play. the offensive lineman for methodist 63 was killing the gc defense when he was blocking them and he would take his man clear outta the play and then they would throw a flag on him. one of the best offensive lineman ive seen play for methodist. he even caught a pass last night. back to the officiating tho. a late missed pass interference on greensboros last passing touchdown was horrible. the entire stadium could see the wr push off the defender. they missed a ton of facemasks and holding calls as well. officiating was horrible for both teams but since i pull for methodist it seemed like the officials were pulling for greensboro.

for the coaches...Sypult needs to do one thing. pack up your office and get the hell out of methodist. once again he could not control his teams emotions and it showed that this team lacks discipline and it reflects their coaching. he wasted a timeout early in the first half to give another one of his peptalks that apparently dont work and then wasted another timeout when the defensive coach subbed a lineman in and he started screaming no no dont let him play. all the bad calls that happened against methodist and this man just stood on the sideline and did not question a thing. then at the end of the game where i found that this man does not need to be coaching at this school anymore. greensboro got the ball back with 3:21 left in the game winning 35-20. methodist had two timeouts left. greensboro ran the ball three straight times and the coach did not call a single timeout to save time for his offense. the methodist defense had stopped greensboro and forced a 4th and 4 and the next play they threw for a touchdown they should have been called back from a pass interference that was very easy to see. so he let them take the clock from 3:21 to :37 when methodist got the ball back. If your going to give up on the game, how do you expect your team to play for you and respect you as a coach? Use your timeouts and try to save some time for your offense to possibly score once more. you want your team to play better yet you cant coach well at all. there were many parents after this game that were furious with the coaching and how the game turned out. a horrible game was concluded by a horrible coaching performance at the end and all throughout the game.

good game to greensboro and they played very good on defense. they are a much improved team from the past years and their offense looked very good. particularly when the opponent starts to hang their head, greensboro knew how to put the nail in the coffin and finish the game.

once more week and im dying to see how many yards CNU can rush for against the methodist defense.

Natural, I do not know what game you were watching. The reason that I say that with the officiating is because there was a blatant EXTREMELY late hit on Adams on that last rushing TD that he had. I saw that from a mile away, I would of thrown the flag and sent that guy packing but yet NO FLAG. There was no since in that hit. So you can not say the officials were pulling for Greensboro when you miss a call like that.

went to watch the game on pridenet and it looks like gc didn't pay the cable bill :)

the monarchs are down 21-7 and gc is averaging 5.4 yards per carry...not good for the monarchs - if livestats is correct, mu has 5 fumbles in the game (but they've only lost one)...ugh...i might have to go all cnu85 if the monarchs lose :)

This backhanded slap would lead you to think that the game was not on PrideTV. It was. We had about 50 viewers most of the game.

Perhaps someone needs to upgrade their dial-up account...

Last night's score: GC 42, Methodist 20

Updated Webcasted hours of live video: GC 6,000, Methodist 0

have you heard the latest on the sports park and how they are going to work things when it happens. The way that I heard it is that they are going to turn Pride Field into the football field when the park is built. (WHENEVER THAT WILL BE......LOL)

I wish.  Maybe we could use that money to buy a stadium on the school grounds for football and not the other lame sports we endorse.

Yes that is who i follow. So what you are saying, is that everyone that does not get the AQ from the conf. that they play in goes into pool b or c.

Playoff FAQ

After the Pool A bids have been awarded by the conferences, whether by regular season finish as done in the UAA, or by post-season tourney, the remaining teams are evaluated by the criteria that are listed in the Handbook.

For the women, there are 20 Pool C bids to be awarded.

As I posted on the board this week, if your team is not listed in this week's regional rankings, then my best advice is to win your conference.

About which team are you most concerned?  Greensboro?

Final in Greensboro:  Guilford 73, Hiram 70

Quakers move to 7-2 while the Terriers fall to 6-4.

Man that is a hard trip for Hiram coming into the city of Greensboro with a record of 6-2 and leave 6-4.

In an attempt to address concerns on the Men's Top 25 discussion board about teams not receiving the respect they deserve ... and because I had to make a few tweaks in my program anyway ... I added an option to specify a list of additional teams which had not received votes, but might deserve attention from the voters.

So far that list includes Cal Lutheran, Ohio Northern, and Mount Union (on the men's side).  Are there any teams I should add on the women's side?

(P.S. Hoosier Titan -- I'll send you the updated program once I've tested it a little more thoroughly.)

I think Greensboro  College Women should be getting a look

Final Greensboro 71, Hiram 68 OT

I know GC was down 30-23 at the half and it was 55-all in regulation, so the Pride must have outscored the Terriers 16-13 in OT.

Hiram and the Emory Eagles are on two-game trips to Greensboro, NC.  The Pride took the the first game this afternoon and will face Emory tomorrow.  Meanwhile, the Guilford Quakers entertain HC tomorrow night and Emory on Tuesday.

Greensboro won its fifth straight game tonight by defeating Emory 59-57. Greensboro  lead at the half but let it slip away but they kept the game really close and came away with the win. They had a big game by Soph. Louis Owenby with 16pts that is his third straight game with 10 or more for Greensboro. The Pride are now 5-4

Looking forward to watching the Guilford game. Last one I was at was the overtime field goal game.

Anyone know anything about how The Pride looks this year at practice?  Thanks!

winsome pride
Yeah, I was also at that 2006 game ... I don't think I'd ever seen a FG attempt actually land directly on top of the upright!  When that was waved off, Guilford won 36-30 in 2 OT when Josh Vogelbach hooked up on a 25-yard walk-off strike down the left side to Chris Barnette.  In fact, all of the games the last three years have been exciting ... hope this year is too.  I look forward to meeting some fans at the game.

i totally agree with that.....+1.......it is always a exciting game at least all of the ones that i have seen. What is the latest on Josh, I heard that he has still having problems with his shoulder that he injured in our game last season.
