Midd's team seems to be very good this year. I thought Williams was going to win the game because of the mental advantage they had going in. Midd had never won a nescac playoff game and traditionally always loses to Williams. The fact that not only did they win but win big I think says a lot about both their menta mindset as well as their talent. I think Rudin is a very underrated player.

Glad to see Colby and Conn knocked out in the first round. Every year their supporters jock their team (which is a good thing) but to an extent that is fairly tough to read about given the lack of results year in and year out.

regarding marcus wells, the pg to be at Williams that was posted about. He was not recruited by any d1 schools so at least by some measurement he might not be the savior that some seem ready to annoint him as.

Hard to argue with anything Friar, Verdad, and FPC have said about lefrakenstein/jeff rookie. He knows absolutely nothing about the game of basketball evidenced by numerous posts that show an embarassing lack of knowledge. This coupled with his incessant bickering with Coleman, his lack of class when constantly harping on rose's struggles, and his catfight last year with another amherst poster seems to make him one of the most unlikeable posters on d3hoops. a real dweeb.

i bet both games this wknd will be close as I think all 4 teams are among the elite in new england.

When you think of past dominant big men in the nescac, your first thought is Jamie Snyder-Faire, but after that its Craig Erling Coupe.

I think amherst might need to get another ballhandler in theirinstead of coulibaly. How amherst gets outrebounded with that starting lineup is a little ridiculous. Not having olsen at full strength (supposedly) definitely is a huge problem given they really have no one else in that lineup who can bring the ball up and penetrate but regardless a pretty bad loss given Brandeis was without their best player.

For people who were at the game, who was the vocal leader for amherst when they were getting pushed around? Anybody? I´m sure they will have it figured out and be ready to go once league starts. Baskauskas needs to get a lot more touches as he is simply their best overall scorer.

Booballs, in regards to the celts- spurs, jazz, mavs, suns, and warriors would all absolutely crush the C´s in the finals.

Supposedly Amherst is getting Ill Wesleyan and Brockport St  for the Ken Wright Invitational. I assume Amherst would schedule themselves against a weaker team in the first round. Regardless, nice to see them bring in a little competition.

Pat, thanks a lot for the link to those pics.

Thats a tough break for hixo. Is Dr. Lohrer doin the surgery? Stan Zieja the rehab? Those two men have been teh backbone of the amherst men's bball program for a long time. absolute legends.

Walzy, does hixo really coach in a wheelchair behind the amherst bench? If so, can anyone you upload pictures onto the website. Thanks.

The academic prestige of Amherst and Williams is basically a toss-up. As is the prominence of their basketball past. Up until recently Williams probably had a stronger basketball tradition. Fine. Nescac1 said himself that Amherst is now able to get better recruits because of all the recent success. But why wasnt Williams able to have the same sort of recruiting success following their 2 championship game appearances? Possibly, the turnover of asst coaches, but really that is minimal.

The real difference between the two programs is the type of people who play at the two schools. DeMuth, Coffin, Crotty, and Abba had to be four of the biggest jerks and/or losers ever to suit up in the nescac. How can you expect players who visit both schools to honestly choose to have those types of kids be there teammates and friends. Marty Peretz brought this issue up earlier. The character of those kids is what killed their recruiting. If you talk to kids around the nescac about why they did not choose williams its because their team is year after year a bunch of stiffs. I look at the more recent kids....where do they find these mutants?

Friar T,
Are you Tanner Lipsett? If so, probably the biggest fool I've ever encountered. Get your life together.

david lit, if he loses some weight, will be a PHENOMENAL player in the nescac

Where is Nelson from?

I have heard about Litt...he is supposedly going to be a great addition to the Amherst frontcourt. He is the kind of wide body that Amherst has been missing during their last couple NCAA runs. Supposedly he turned down scholarship offers to both American University and Lehigh to committ to Amherst. 6'7, 240 with very good hands is the word. He needs to get into better shape but I'm sure Hixon can take care of that. Any other early decision announcements to nescac schools?

Williams is VERY far away from rising back to contend for championship. Amherst has too much talent in every class, especially the junior class for them to be anywhere near competitive for a championship this year or next. Trinity, is also, far superior in comparison to williams, and at least for one more year bates will be better as well, the same goes for Tufts. So, Williams will find itself once again playing on the road for a first round playoff game. The only class with any talent is the juniors with Shalvoy and Rose. But compared to the other teams, that is not nearly enough. when those guys graduate, i dont see anyone who can bring them back to contending. Supposedly the freshmen are very average, and from last yrs frosh class, only snyder, and he doesnt project that well. To me, the top teams will continue to be amherst, tufts and trinity. That being said, Williams did have a nice 2yr run a couple years back, and Paulsen is a great coach. They are also playin a much harder schedule than the other nescac squads and maybe this will better prepare them for league play. Regardless, I dont seem them being an elite squad anytime in the next couple years.

Eph,
it doesnt matter who they got this year. if you saw the mutants they had coming off their bench last year in garbage time, you would know that their team is in shambles. literally mutants.

Has anybody heard about whether any nescac '02 players are playing abroad in Europe? Rhoten? Bedford?
