I'll be at the UMHB game Saturday.  My plan is to tailgate around noon.  Anyone want to join me?  I'll be making food to share.
Would like to do it. Right now some of the parents of seniors have tentative plans to tailgate as well. Let me know where you will be. We normally get on the front row of the parking lot. There is a group that meets over by the elementary school as well, but we have been late in arrival each Saturday for that. Since this is probably the last trip to Tiger Stadium I plan on getting there 11:00 ish depending on time management skills of my better half ;D
Last time I set up in the front parking lot back by the grass strip between the 2 lots.  Plenty of space there and It's easier to get out after the game.  If we go to Killeen on Friday instead of saturday AM, I'll be there around 11.  If we leave abilene Saturday it'll be closer to 12.  Right now the menu plan is sausage wraps (in home made tortillas), bbq chicken legs (featuring my personal chipotle BBQ sauce), some form of smoked pork, a rice dish, and chips.  leftovers will be taken into the stands for game time snacks.  I'm going to be at the game by myself (unless a friend decides to come as well) and will probably have enough food to feed a few families.
MENU UPDATE

The HEB ad came out today and has Boston Butts and Pork Ribs for a dollar a pound, so the smoker will be in full force Friday.  I'll know the final menu Friday morning when I shop.  If you think you might stop by for some free grub, let me know.

What are the chances a guy can get in on this after playing four quarters?

Steve Wright has resigned from the head coaching position at Sul Ross.  I just left the meeting where he notified the players.  A national search will open up next week with the candidate pool being decided by the end of January and a hire hopefully made  by the first of February.

Here's the link to the press release.

Pat,  It takes $17,000 to get to Alpine.  ::)

That's why I only make it home about twice a year.

I would like to jump into this. You are all talking about the size of the schools, the location, and the winning traditions, but I think there is one more issues that no one has said. What about the cost of the school? I think the big issue is that the two powerhouses of Texas, UMHB and HSU and I am sure many more in DIII are allowed to give Presidential scholarship to their athletes. This is something that I believe plays a big part of success for these schools. When you have a place like SRSU that does not have the money to give these types of scholarships, it makes it hard to recruit the good athletes that cannot afford to go to school. To me it makes the playing field lopsided and I believe that this issue is overlooked.

A Texas resident can take 21 credit hours at SRSU for $3,177. Which side is the lopsidedness on?

It is considerably more than that since Sul Ross has built the new dorms.  Room and board is sky high and you are required to live on campus until you have 60 hours or you are 21.

El paso I would think could be a wonderful recruiting area for sul ross.  I mean they basically have that turf to themselves.

Believe it or not, we don't have too many players from El Paso, as in guys that get considerable amounts of playing time.  I would say we have "The Valley" to ourselves for the most part, and El Paso players are sprinkled in.  I even think the Midland/Odessa area gives us just as many players as El Paso.  I wonder where these El Paso kids go outside of UTEP.  Maybe New Mexico, New Mexico State, or a few to Sul Ross.

Futbol would be a totally different story.

I just can't imagine the score if a D-I team played these teams instead of a D-III.

You're right.  The wind had to be blowing north at 0.00 MPH.

I hope our road games do exactly that and bring us together.  We have a great core of people back who can pull the new guys in with us and make us that better of a team. And thank God we got to La. College Week 9 and host MC Week 10.  Last two years game 10 has been La. College and MC, respectively.  And those trips are from Alpine.  I would much prefer those trips leaving from Belton rather than practically Mexico.  But that's the way it goes.  And if 6 road games can lead to a trip to the Stagg, that's fine.  I'd play 16 on the road for a National Championship.

Forgot to mention that our game @ Howard Payne 2 years ago kicked off at 1.  I haven't played in a hotter game, heck, I haven't been that hot in my life.  I thought my cleats were melted to my feet and the bottom of them melted to the turf.

I'm glad that SRSU was able to find a 10th game!  (TLU a second time!)
It's nice to get to play 10, but 6 road games will be tough.  We'll see the new TLU first time out.  I'm dreading the heat of 4 of our first 5 games though.  @TLU at 2, @SAGU at noon, @UMHB at 1, ETBU at 3:30, @ HPU at 1.  The heat at these kickoffs will be awful.  I may be down to 280 by mid-season.  Ha ha.  Not that that's a bad thing.

I really wanna get into a conversation with somebody about Sul Ross. I think straight up they have the rawest talent just really no team work/ discipline.
Well I am the man to talk to about that.  I see it all first hand.  We have excellent talent.  Great coaching.  A great scheme.  Ultimately, we can't keep kids out here long enough to have a team that gels.  This year could be different.  There are a lot of people back and that's not the norm out here.  (There.  I started it.  Now we can converse.  ;))

TLU is experiencing success early in their 42-14 win over Univeristy of Mexico at Chihuahua in front of 22,400 people.  Now , with the new coaching staff at TLU hopefully this will give them the boost they need to compete in the ASC without giving them a "bighead".  New TLU Head Coach Dennis Parker is no stranger to football in Texas.  One of his best friends is Coach Jack Welch of Copperas Cove High School who has had some very good things to say about Coach Parkert.  Coach Mueller revived a program that was heading south fast and felt it was his time to to step aside.  The TLU football program is finally creating a reputation for quality since Coach Mueller took over and Coach Parker is off to a great start!

The true test for these 2007 Bulldogs will be how they compete against UMHB, HSU and Trinity.  My prediction is with the wholesale change in the coaching staff at TLU I see a very successful season ahead for TLU.  We probably won't get a ring but we will go 6-3 at worst.
I just can't put much stock in a blow-out over a team from Mexico.  The Mexican teams NEVER keep these games close, so they mean nothing to me.  It's a great experience for the guys who get to travel, but the score is pointless.  I just can't see TLU being better than last year, especially with a new coaching staff.  Overall, I say they drop off a little without Trahan.  Just my two cents...
