WOW Averett got a "W". Didn't see or hear about it until today. At any rate, congrats and maybe this will be the start of some good things.

For the Averett faithful that may still follow this board - Mike Dunlevy (former Head Coach) has accepted an Assistant Coach position with Central Washington University in Washington State. I belive this is Division II level. According to the web site he will be coaching Linebackers and Defensive Backs. Good Luck coach Dunlevy.

2014 USA South Coaches Preseason Poll
Rank Institution (1st Place Votes) Pts.
1. Maryville (5) 60
2. Christopher Newport (3) 55
3. Methodist (1) 54
4. Huntingdon 45
5. LaGrange 34
6. Ferrum 29
7. N.C. Wesleyan 22
8. Greensboro 16
9. Averett 9
Wow, Maryville must have everyone back on both sides of the ball. This being CNU's last year in the conference, I am sure they will want to go out with a bang and prove something. They are always tuff. Been 4 years since I looked at these teams close, so I can't speak to the rest of the league. I have never seen Huntingdon or LaGrange play so not familiar with them at all. I am just hoping Averett can get out of the basement and be competive this year. Look forward to going there for a night game, and seeing the new field.
Does anyone know when they will start buiding on the new stadium?

I was at work during the event today, but I watching the archived video now.
Coach Adams....wow. Very impressed. I bet this guy can recruit some guys to Danville.
Hold on to him, Averett. He might prove to be one hell of a hire.
I have been out of the loop .... who is supposed to be the power house in the USA Conf. this year and how are they picked (pre season)?

Media Day is set for July 28 at Maryville College. Not sure what to think of this, really. I like that MC is hosting because there's a $46 million building to utilize, but as I said last year I'd like to see it hosted by some of the newer members to see what kind of facilities they have.
Any thoughts on a preseason poll?
What the hey - I will get this party started...my preseason poll....with about 2 minutes of research and totally forgetting who lost how many key players etc....just to get the conversation rolling and then I will reserve the right to change! hahaha!

my minor analysis...... The top 4 teams listed have at least as many wins EACH in 2013 as the bottom 4 COMBINED!! LaGrange is middle of the pack but can make some noise. If I wasn't a Captain, I wouldn't put CNU first simply because they have road games at Huntingdon and Maryville. Also CNU's bye week is week 11. No bye week means no time to rest and recover from nagging injuries. Might be a factor in the last few games of the schedule. Go figure...parting shot from the USA South?
So there's my nonsense...who is next?
I agree with your bottom three teams completely. NCW and LaGrange, especially LC, have tons of experience coming back. LaGrange should have had a better record than what they had last year in my opinion. Huntingdon lost quite a few kids, but they are Huntingdon so you know they will have the guys needed to step in and do the job. Maryville lost a few guys, but I really think they can rebound for this year, even at RB with the loss of Felder. CNU is CNU. I don't think in the world of USA South sports CNU can do any wrong. They will be strong per usual. Methodist is going to be strong again, probably stronger.
This year is going to have another co-championship or tri-championship. For what the conference is, this is going to be this strongest year, top-to-almost-bottom, we've probably ever seen. Competition within the conference is going to be something fun to watch.
1. Methodist
2. Maryville
3.CNU
4. Huntingdon
5.LaGrange (Dark horse of the year. They could easily lead the pack this year. I'm calling it now.)
6. NCWC
7. Ferrum
8. Greensboro
9. Averett
Maybe since AU has gotten the new field and a new stadium is schedule for the next year, they may be able to attract some good talent. At least with the new field you won't be playing in mud up to your ankles if it rains. Hopefully this new coach will be able to kick start them and they can get 2 or 3 wins from somewhere. Chris has been gone 4 years now and I only saw them play one time last year at CNU. Very small even in the line.
FYI, Chris got married this past Saturday. I now have a daughter to spoil rotten.

Has anyone heard any thing about Mike Dunlevy. Has he gotten on with another team or has he retired from football altogether?

Hey Kickerdad! Doing well......moving up? hah!!! hopefully never!. Look me up after the 2015 season, our first in the power conference NJAC, and then ask about giving others a chance!. That conference is going to be insane!
Didn't know you were leaving the USA South.....should have guessed since the Girls Softball is playing in another conference now.

CNU is on the move again. After losing a great coach in Davis, who called the plays, we bring in a new coach with tremendous experience and a Champion. Looking forward to see what impact he will have. I'm confident there will be a huge positive impact.

85, how have you been. I tried to look u up at the CNU/Averett game this past year, however too many people and the place has gotten bigger. Sounds like CNU will have another power house this comming year. When are you guys gonna move up to another level and give everyone else a chance. LOL

After the fanfare they had when they brought in the new AD, I'd figure she'd be ready to get a head coach for the football team as quickly as possible and make a statement in her tenure quickly. I mean, come on now. Football programs can easily hold 5-10% of total enrollment at USAC schools, if not more.
Get it together, Averett.
Don't get on here as much as I use to....however I have spoken to some former players and some that are close to the school. Regardless of what has been said or hasn't been said, (mostly of what hasn't been said), there were issues from within and enough blame to go around the entire program and school admin. On a good note, they have got a new coach and those I have spoken with are hoping things will turn around and AU will become competitive once again. I will say this, I agree with what was said earlier on this board, Dunlevy was and is a class act and the players respected him. He made the difference for my son and I will always have admiration and respect for him. Lets hope some of the AU faithful will find their way back and support the program and hopefully the school can get it together soon.

Just heard that Mike Dunleavy (head coach at Averett) has resigned this week. Averett is beginning National Search for a coach.
They are in the middle of a major fund raising campaign to build a new stadium and put in new turf field. I was told by one of the coaches at the CNU game that they were scheduled for next year but now it has been put off to 2015. Anything would be an improvment. The problem is space, they are very limited unless they can purchase more land around the North Campus where the Football field is. The original campus is in the older section of Danville and there is nothing around it to expand.

Hopefully, Averett will be able to rebound soon and get back in the mix of things. I saw them play this year at CNU and they looked fairly good for 3 quarters. One thing I noticed was they were extremely small. No size on the line. Lots of heart but no size. Also, they are young. I think they had mostly Freshmen and Sophmores playing. I know what those rebuilding years are like, we went 0-10 in 2007.

Unfortunately, AU was picked dead last. Looks like a long season is ahead.
Been having too many of those.......Hopefully they can pull something out of the hat and be competive.

Been out of the loop for some time, appears from what I am reading that CNU is the top pick this year. Can anyone tell me where Averett ended up? Are there any Averett folks on the board anymore?
