Messages - concordia of the north

Fraase has no chance...this year.

Concordia loses one senior, and they bring back Mr. Double-Double Fraase, Darrin Olmscheid (who put 30+ on GAC), Karl Olson/John Molina at PG, and skilled Eric hartmann (along with a couple nice bruisers 'n' bangers)...

I liked them too early.  This was a paying dues kind of year.  But once those sophomores figure a couple things out, I feel optimistic.

And, if Concordia wins 12 conf games next year, Fraase is a realistic candidate.

Wonka:

Regarding Sibley's loss to MV.  MV's record is misleading.  They had 7 losses, and six of them were to stillwater, cretin derham, shakopee, and then cooper in either the section semis or championship.  Not that you need frame of reference as I'm sure you know about all of those teams, but all 4 of them are in the top 10 of that AAAA ranking Palmer just posted.

MV was a good team that had enough long kids to match up with Sibley's long kids.

I don't know what to think of it. It's strange to have your connection to the program severed.  How do I relate back to that team beyond the name on their chest?

I'm also still worried that this guy will be  there and gone again.  I haven't heard anything from anyone.  I hope they get an assistant who really drives that program.

I also hope very good things for Coaches Whartnaby and Odegaard.  They have distinct but very valuable gifts.  In the right program Whartnaby's encyclopedic faculty with certain offensive schemes is a great tool.  Odegaard is a spitfire and a very capable recruiter.  Look at the growing size and quality of those classes up north! They are excellent pieces to their respective puzzles.

nice link from the Cord page. it's a wall for people to post memories of Coach Sonny.

wonka:

what is their primary beef with the hire? I'm not asking about the board itself, because I likely know people on it and wouldn't want them out-ed here.

but, what about Glas' hire would prompt a maroon & gold lifer to initiate a lifelong boycott?

i just checked and i don't see it on the In-Forum website either.
#7
how do you know that hire has been made? i don't see it on their website.

this is the first i've heard of Glas in the proceedings.

he looks like robert redford, though.

one thing I'd be worried about if I was Concordia:

This guy is 60 years old. He has already gone around the coaching merry-go-round quite a bit. Does he really want to stay and provide the long-term presence that Concordia needs in a hire right now? I feel like Concordia should be hiring a guy who will be a staple at that institution and in that program through a substantial period of identity development.

4 MIAC and 3 WIAC guys make the all-region team. Wonder how infrequently the MIAC has taken more spots than the WIAC.

nice reference to the GAC-UWSP conflicts in the Kaslow/Bennet interview from the front page.

That's sad news about coach gulsvig.  He was a large presence in the Barn of the North. I don't know if I ever played a game at Concordia without his sitting courtside. It's possible, but I don't remember.

Robertson would be huge for Bethel. That's the kind of physical, bloody nose, big man that Bethel needs. That young J.J. Palmer was trying to do it, Robertson is just a better, more versatile version.

When you have two strong rebounders instead of one, it is a whole different ball game.  It's not like shooters, where the more you put out there the more they can detract from each other. With rebounders, things are easier for each other. Think defensive linemen. If you have two or three good ones, they aren't as easy to double team, and you can lock down both sides of the play. Bethel will now have a 6'8 fella on the strong side, and a physical 6'7 on the weak side (where 70% of the boards end up). If I was robertson or moberg, that prospect would make me drool....and then it would make others uncomfortable.

st. thomas did not lose because of the reffing.  they just lost.  they got killed on the boards.  i haven't checked the box score, so i'm not sure what the actual numbers would be.  even if they turn out to be quite close, ust simply didn't come up with the important ones.

scott was so cold for so long.  nicholai started out quite well with two early threes to push the tommies out in front. he then disappeared to the bench for so long that when he came back his rhythm was totally gone.

ust's 9-0 run in less than a minute was AMAZING. when they tighten the screws, there is just no room for error for the opposing team. very impressive.  Lonnie Robinson committed two VERY dumb fouls that both put BV on the line, and positioned them for double bonus later in the game when fouls became necessary.  I truly believe that a few fouls with about 3.5-6 minutes remaining by Robinson and others was the big difference in the game.  They all seemed to be correct calls.  The two robinson whistles were in wide-open court on overly aggressive pursuits. very silly.
