Hello from the shadows...

I think the facility at VWC is the finest...followed by the group of RMC, HSC, E&H, and EMU. Next would be the group of GC, Roanoke, W&L, and LC. Finally...Bridgewater and then Randolph. By the way, the groupings are in no particular order.

While I'm "live"... Algernon, I warned you about the "curse".

May all of your teams win out!

Algernon...
May S2H bring you the same magic he brought to LC!

EMU has picked up their defense while maintaining there offense and led RC by a score of 94-54 with over 10 minutes left in the second.  EMU can flat out score!
On the other hand, does Roanoke even try to play defense? 117 points with 4:05 left - that is embarrassing.

More insightful analysis from Scottie2Hottie...I'm sure Coach Moir had no idea that his team was "under performing"... let me know when he sends you an apology for offending you.

Algernon -
I have known the artist previously known as Scottie2Hottie for a long time and his M.O. has always been an over reliance on stats and a penchant for spontaneous, simplistic criticism. Look back over the brief history of TheRock on this board and I believe you will see the same pattern. Additionally, he just can't stay off this forum and has reappeared with nom de plumes before. This is without question, a Scottie2Hottie sighting!

EMU needs to learn what a two-point shot is. Their love affair with the three is costing them games.

So, Scottie2Hottie, er....TheRock...I'm sure Coach Dean is waiting with baited breath for some more crack analysis of his 15-3 EMU squad as the enter this very demanding part of their schedule.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Coach Johnson. I used to love sitting down on his bench with him upon arrival, shooting the bull, and listening to his music. The last time we communicated, I sent him an email wishing him the best following his retirement and commented that I hoped his musical selections would remain a staple of the E&H pregame shootarounds. In his reply, he assured me that I could count on the continued sounds of Motown reverberating through the gym at E&H. I know that whenever I hear The Temptations singing "Ain't To Proud To Beg"...I'm going to remember one of the finest men I ever met.

I, too, am very disappointed in the LC season. I came out of my cave in the preseason and made a case for LC being an impact team. I based my thesis on a team that returned players with 2 and 3 years experience, 2 All-ODAC caliber players, and a new coach with a new system. I do not apologize for my prognostication.
Now, some of you have implied that LC does not have ODAC caliber players yet all of you have Woolridge on your All-ODAC picks and lavish praise has appeared on this board for Echols. I assure you that the remaining LC roster contains several players who have the talent to round out a competitive rotation.
smithgraham77 should be ashamed. He calls the players quitters and is still trying to kick Swickrath around for the quit that he sees in these players. That is shameful as well as cowardly and I would invite you to go to practice this afternoon where these guys have worked their tails off for the past 4 months and lecture them on their lack of effort. My friend, Swickrath is gone and having had the great pleasure to work with these kids, they are not quitters. It is certainly likely that after having high hopes, the same old 3-20 record hanging around their necks has affected their play and to someone who has never played the game nor coached the game, it might appear like quitting.
Perhaps smithgraham, instead of hoping Coach Scott is a better scout of talent and attitude, you had better hope he can prepare his players on the practice floor and put his game plans into action when the scoreboard comes on. I don't think he is blaming his players. I would imagine he is trying to figure out what might yet work with this team. smithgraham, you would be well served to confine your analysis to the same.

Well...sorry if I'm about to interfere with the politics of the day...but, I've crawled out of the shadows to make an observation about LC hoops before they tip it off tonight.
In spite of the annual lack of respect for LC, this is going to be a very good basketball team - an impact team.
There are several reasons to feel this way. Certainly, the fact that Lynchburg College has hired a new coach who has brought in a new system, philosophy, and enthusiasm adds weight to the optimism. More importantly, the players have bought into it.
Further, the return of All-ODAC performer Mason Woolridge and past All-Freshman honoree, Steven Echols, gives LC a potent inside-outside combination. Add to the mix the return of former starters Danny Reed, Jack Burgess, and Sean Sutherland, all of whom missed last season due to injury. Also returning are past starters Brad Puffenbarger and Jeff Langrock as well as KC Mendez and Eric Burnett who received a lot of court time last year. Have I mentioned that in spite of the experience, there isn't a Senior in the group?
I have had the pleasure of working with these kids and I can speak to their work ethic and character. This group of kids has gone through some very tough times on and off the court yet they have remained resilient. I look forward to following them closely this season and remember, as the W's add up...you heard it here first. You know...this team might even bring Scottie back to the forum.
Well...I'll head back to the shadows and watch. It's going to be an interesting year.

"...this is more about the incredible level at which HSC was at during the 90s and early 2000s.  We'll get back there!"

With all due respect...No you won't.
It has been a long time since the opportunity for an RC and Moonpie wager appeared on this board, thus my extended absence...but the above statement screams out for one! With the parity that exists in the ODAC only getting stronger,  no school will match the record of the "Shavers era" in the ODAC.
Book it?

Steely...Scottie will be an infrequent poster at best from this point on as he begins an internship in the SID's office. His absence will be welcome to many but certainly will leave a void in the "stirring things up" department. I trust someone will step up and keep this ODAC board controversial as well as simply informative.
I, too, must wish you all adieu, as I will be dropping the "X" from my moniker in the upcoming weeks. I have been away from coaching for 2 years now and I need a "fix" of high blood pressure, panic anxiety, insomnia, et al. Additionally, I really need to give my regular group of golfing mates an opportunity to save up some $$$ over the winter as I have feasted off them since the purchase of my new Ping "Ug-Lee" putter! You really can buy a game!
I am hoping that very soon the "regulars" will begin to appear with their preseason prognostications but lacking any so far, I will attempt an answer to your query of Scottie about LC. I think it is obvious that LC certainly has the longest way to go this season and their success will depend on how talented the incoming freshman class will be and how quickly they can make the transition to college basketball. With the talent in the ODAC this year, even a superb effort by LC newcomers might not be enough but Jeez...that's why they tip it off and we love it isn't it?
Anyway...may your teams play well and may you all remain healthy and obnoxiously opinionated throughout the upcoming season. Perhaps we'll run into each other in some musty, dank, gym this season!

You BELIEVE he is a good coach? I would suspect there would be a lot of agreement on that one. And, by the way, I believe his philosophy has proven fairly successful!

I hesitate to join in this conversation due to the last time I openly praised W&L they went 0-18 and the poster formerly known as "Denbow's Roomie" disappeared for months but here goes...
Scottie is a "stat freak" and too often does not look past those stats to the "blood and guts" of the matter. I prefer to look forward rather than backward. There are no stats available for next season, only a subjective analysis of W&L's "potential." With that said, I believe your optimism is justified. You have a fiercely dedicated and competitive coach who is intent on producing a basketball team that plays the game the way it supposed to be played and you have 3 players that are capable of taking over games in Halkitis, Kusimo and in my opinion, one of the finer players in the league, Bienemann. Sure...they might win 10 games but it's gonna be an incredibly tough league through the first 9 teams. Regardless of the number of wins, I fully expect W&L to be a "player" in next year's ODAC race. Now, if they go 0-18...please don't blame me!

Thank you hasanova and Merriam-Webster...Scottie - Remember...Hope springs eternal!

Algernon speaks the truth...although the defending national champs should be a prohibitive favorite next season, the rest of the league return some awfully good players. It looks like 9 teams battling it out and Lynchburg hoping for a "seismic upheaval." Maybe something will change before October 15th...

Loesel-
I'm sitting down here in an Arkansas ice storm, minding my own business...reading what the "gurus" have to say about the tourney action that is getting ready to tip off and...boom!...You offer an RC that I sent you last year (vintage RC, at that!) as collateral on a wager you make with the nondiscriminating Algernon. Obviously, you hoarded the "booty" I sent and left Algernon and Steely hanging. Is that considered "war profiteering?" Then, you ask me to pay you again for LC's woes this season. I got an idea...drink the RC you have left from last year and eat one of the moonpies that are undoubtedly also in your wager collection archives!
Now, Algernon...you have to get in on the action as well...still complaining about Scottie's substitution of a Dr.Pepper last year. You simply have no grounds for whining as Herr Loesel has photographic evidence of you not only accepting the Dr.Pepper, but consuming it on the spot with a voracity seldom seen at the Salem Civic Center!
I would like to close by publicly thanking Steely for not taking part in this cheap attack on my character and, as a show of my appreciation, offer him beverages (of his choice) at this afternoon's Sport's Bar gathering. Just put the beverages on Loesel's tab! In the case Steely does not attend, I hope he will enjoy the said beverages at a watering hole of his choice and send the tab to Loesel!
Everyone have a great time today and all-weekend and may your teams prosper!
Below is proof of the copious bounty that Loesel received last year!!!
