The loss leaves an incredibly bad taste in the Vikings' mouths.
Woe to SAA opponents in 2026.

December 09, 2025, 12:44:56 AMQuote from: Cowboy2 on December 08, 2025, 11:06:37 PMThey had a chance but just served up 22 point lead at half this year and the rally was bit too late, even though they almost pulled off the unthinkable. Hope Berry can rep well since ncaa put all 5 R3 teams in the same pod and 4/5 in the same sub-bracket. We had a Rematch of Berry and La Grange which came down to the wire. Then the Annual rematch of Trinity vs ASC (HSU), which came down to the wire....and then the Rematch of SAA in Round 3 which came down to the wire. Uhhh, oh and poor R-MC didn't rep well. Now it's on Georgia to hold down the fort.Good points.
By the end of the season there was much balance at the top of the Region.

I don't see a Texas team that can enter the list. Let's just recognize Trinity as the holder of the "Barbed Wire and Mesquite", the Texas equivalent of the "Walnut and Bronze" trophy for 2025.

- We are guaranteed to have 3 semifinalists with a loss and at least one in the Stagg Bowl who has lost. The only remaining unbeatens are Bethel and North Central who meet in the quarterfinals.
- Two quarterfinalists (Wheaton and Susquehanna) played in the first round
- 7 conferences represented in the quarterfinals, only the CCIW has two teams
- Regions 2, 5, and 6 have two teams left, regions 3 and 4 have one team, only region 1 has no one left
Very few monkey stomps this year.

You describe the "nominal fee" as a more intentional "RSVP" to the event.

D3playbook.com featured an ABC story about St Francis U (Loretto, PA) moving from D1 in Northeast Conference to D3.
They sponsor 9 men's sports including football and men's volleyball but no baseball and 12 women's sports including field hockey, lacrosse and water polo.
With the success that Hartford, Birmingham-Southern and Centenary have had moving over (not down) to D-3, where might they fit? (If B-SC had administration as capable as their athletic department and programs, they would still be open, IMHO.) Centenary has been able to keep its doors open another decade since its move to D-3, with reasonable success in the conference dominated by Trinity for most of the time.

... which is why many of us consider these 1st and 2nd round games as the "Texas sub-bracket", the winner of which takes on the world.

A great weekend for the playoffs.
LaGrange made a statement.
.
TUTx edged HSU and we will see how the rematch goes with Berry. TUTx seems a much better team at the end of the season. (Rack one up to good coaching.)
RMC was handled soundly by John Carroll who catches Mount Union in the next round.
UMHB still seems in the Top 7 in the region, but that 7th team is still uncertain

If one could turn the TUTx-HSU game into a movie, it would be dramatic slugfest, each team countering the other's blows. HSU would be seen rising up from the adversity and driving to place the killing blow in the last minute of the movie. TUTx responds in that moment and the tipped pass on 4th & 5 turns into the pick-six. This would be the cinematic dynamic blow, with blood squirting all over the face of the screen, and obliterating HSU's chance for a dramatic ending! Okay, bring on the CGI crew now and we will submit it for an ESPY. (Wouldn't that be TUTx's 2nd ESPY?)

Congrats to Trinity... a third round game played 1 round early by virtue of geographic proximity.
In era of the modern extended playoff format, I wonder what the postseason records of the ASC teams and Trinity would be if there had been a pure "1 v 32" format had been in place.
