That's very true but you have to look at depth between Wheaton and WPI.  Pretty sure most people would say that department would go to Wheaton.  Not only are your starters important but when you get into later innings role players become crucial.  When you go into the 8th and 9th innings of games 5-0 and 9-3 somebody needs to come in and finish teams off.  IF WPI finishes those two games, yes NEWMAC champs they are, but baseball is an interesting game, never over until it's over.  It'll be interesting to see the NEWMAC tourney though, shoudl be some good games.

Southern Maine has a good team, but them being so young it's tough for them.  They failed to recognize and adjust to what Moore was trying to do to them.  I was there at the Wheaton game and it seemed as if every swing they took they were trying to hit the ball out of the park.  Good pitching beats good hitting everytime.  If Southern Maine figures out how to make adjustments to teams during a game even though it puts them out of their comfort zone then they'll be a good team, but as for now this long ball strategy on offense is going to cut it especially against good teams like Wheaton who plays small ball and is built on excellent starting pitching and depth, not to overlook some people who can hit the ball a ways also.

The Southern Maine/Wheaton game was a good one.  Wheaton comes out and looks as if they're going to jump all over Southern Maine early, but they settle down.  Wheaton played great defense behind more all day and the bullpen comes in and struggles for a little bit but get the job done.

And Joe White did get a medical red shirt, tommy-john.

Wheaton 6, Endicott 1

4 in a row now for Wheaton.  They're starting put pitching, hitting, and defense together.  If this consist look out.

Wheaton beats U-Mass Dartmouth 12-2 today.  It was 3-2 going into the 9th but a 9 run inning put Wheaton over the top.  Guess that pitching depth really does mean something ;)

I would agree.  Econn brings 20 pitchers listed on their roster 14 of which are sophmores on up to seniors, and 6 being freshman.  Some of them are listed as position players as well, I don't know them well enough to know which of them actually get alot of innings or who comes in a big situation. Wheaton has 12 pitchers and returns 9 of them who were on the team that made the run to nationals last year.  I know that Wheaton designates pitchers as pitchers at that's it, so even though Econn may have more guys with quality stuff, I just didn't know if all of them actually through or if they are just used in emergency situations.  I would agree with the depth of both staffs just think that Wheaton has more experience within their staff than Econn, but that's overlooking the fact that I don't know who their real starters and main relievers are or were for that matter.

I agree with Bostonian.  Pretty much the same team as last year just with new seniors and a new freshman class.  They play station to station baseball and look for clutch two out hits when they need them (and often times they get them).  Last year they didn't blow many teams out of the water, they just beat them in close games in the late innings.  Have to give credit to Coach Podbelski and how he can get a bunch of guys, especially guys that used to be studs in their high school just as on every other team, to play such an unselfish game of baseball.  Granted Wheaton has games where they put up a large number of runs but usually just a game of where the pitcher gives a solid 6, 7, 8 innings they get a couple runs and have their bullpen close it out.  Not to many other teams do this in New England and the nation for that matter

The Wheaton/College of New Jersey game was probably just two teams that when it comes down to it haven't played enough games outside to hit any kind of rhythm with pitching and hitting.  It's kind of tough to come from indoor facilities facing your own teamates for over a month or so without seeing any other pitching or hitting.  These two teams are pretty good though, so I wouldn't use the word alleged top teams in the nation, because they can play.  College of New Jersey averaged almost 10 runs a game in Arizona and Wheaton put together a 4 game winning streak at the end of their trip down there beating UMass Boston, College of New Jersey twice, and Denison.  Don't be surprised if Wheaton goes on another 20 + game winning streak this year also.
