Also of question is whether Carroll players will be allowed to push, shove, and hack at the Grinnell point guards like they did when GC played there recently.  Most of the GC turnovers were as a result of being hacked to death by clutch and grab defense by Carroll, who looked like they practiced it all season without punishment.

Really? ???  A Grinnell fan complaining about another team pushing, shoving and hacking?  WOW!

Early...I'll keep taking the Karma from our pseudo wager as long as you want to bring it...its been a while since I was in positive numbers....

Yeah I will owe you.  I gotcha today, and will keep it coming.

Tough year for the hawks.  9-12 overall and 4-10 in conference.  With only two games left on the season, they can only get to 11-12 at best overall.   The second losing season in 4 years? (last in 04-05? complete guess)  And I think it's also only the second in 15 years or so. (again no research, just educated guesses)

Wanna go double or nothing on Wednesday night's tilt???

;D

Well that doesn't really work, cause I don't even remember how many karma points I gave you, and that doesn't make sense to me cause I'm already in the positives for karma........

......but put me down as a yes!

While Pat works on that.................. I will go out on a limb and say that the teams that have never been in the NCAA tournament have not won any tournament games. Not even in the same tournament. ;)

Clap clap clap.  Stand up The Roop and take a bow.

Larry-u,
So I have gotten your karma up to +1.  Are we even?

Sure.  You going to that game?  I'm thinking about it, depending where I am this weekend.

There is also Carroll v Lawrence and Eau Claire v Whitewater...

I would meet anyone going to the game in Ripon this weekend.  It will be an interesting game on Saturday.  It is alumni weekend, which obviously brings back the alumni, plus Beloit who you all know is coached by Brian Vraney.  Brian's two younger brothers went to Ripon, and Vraney coached at Ripon for about 4-5 years.

larry-u, where are u?
(as sung to the scooby do theme song)

It's tough to dish out the karma to repay the wager when I have to search for your name.

I know we have the pick'em board, but what are some verbal predictions for the weekend?
Ripon again is in need of conference victories.  @ Grinnell will be tough, and then @ LF when last weekend they lost at home to the Forresters.

By the way, Pat I like the new look of D3hoops.  With the additional colors.

Larry-u karma +1 ::)

schwan,
keep in mind that except for the LU loss, Ripon's largest margin of defeat was 6 points and the average margin was 3.2 points in all the losses.  Including the LU loss the average margin is now 5.3 points.  They just need more leadership to be able to finish the close games.  So Ripon definitely challenges their opponents and eventually will win some of these close games.

Larry-U
I got you today with a karma point.  One of many to up hold the wager.

Was anyone at the LU-RC game?  Was LU defense that good, or did Ripon miss open shots also.  I know LU plays great defense, especially at home with their crowd.  So I was just curious.
(I was out sick sorry for the question coming so late)

I think Ripon needs two wins this weekend.  I agree with LU-nut with a 0-4 start it is going to be very difficult to make the tourny this year.....but you never know.

Better Dead Than Red!!!!

Hope thast helps to spice up the baord a bit...

I was thinking of adding to the spice, but I don't want to come off as being vengeful.
So with the LU - RC game coming up and being not able to attend the game, would you like to place some Karma on the game Larry-U?

My two cents is that you don't press after a certain point and, as I mentioned in a previous post, you treat the last 10 minutes as an opportunity to get your deep reserves into the game. That holds true for any sport ... not just basketball. Your deep reserves would love some playing time, but there are typically only a few games each year when you're ahead or behind enough to give them meaningful minutes. This sounds like it's going to be one of those opportunities. I've seen Grinnell box scores with players getting one or two minutes. This sounds like the game to make those minutes more like 10 or so for those guys.

By the way, these reserves should be looking to score as much as possible and hoisting up 3s, even if the margin is 50 or more. But pressing fullcourt at that point would be a bit much.

If Grinnell sets a record during this game, terrific, but hopefully it comes during the first three quarters and hopefully it just happens, rather than being planned.

clap clap clap.  schwanman stand up and take a bow :).  clap clap clap.

Early........ No, that "one guy" could hit it from beyond todays 3 point line so it should still be taught these days.

I know he would hit it beyond the 3 point line.  I'm just messing around.  However, we are not talking about an NBA player here and definitely not a NBA hall of famer.  We are talking about a good, solid D3 basketball player with loads of potential.  The point was why isn't WISE squaring up to the hoop when he catches the ball?  I guess I just assumed RR34 was talking about catching it on the perimeter and not in the post.

Your point was valid, but unless Paul starts sinking 3 point hook shots, I think he should square up to the hoop when he catches the basketball on the wing.

Yes that is correct The Roop.  However, that one guy Kareem, who ever that is  :D, most likely was in the post for the hook shot, not catching the ball around the 3pt. arc.

Posture on the court is important but squaring up only gains peoples attention.

That is just what I was thinking....if you get the defenders attention that helps.

Sometimes you need to pretend in order to contend.

The only game I saw Ripon play was against a bad knox team.  Ripon played with hardly any intensity.  I think that was the most disappointing thing I took from their team.  Gillespie scored 27 second half points with foul trouble...he really competes.   He is special no doubt about it.  Paul Wise needs to wake up and start playing the type of ball we know he can play.  He catches the ball and turns his back to the defender giving the defense no offensive threat.

Good to hear from RR34! :)

I haven't seen a game this year, so I am not sure of the issues at hand for RC.  I was shocked and disapointed to see a loss to Knox, and I'm sure the Redhawks were feeling the same way.  Reminded me of the loss we took to Knox my freshman year down there.  We just didn't have anything from the start of the game through the finish.....however we lost big in that game and the "scrubs" (me) were able to get some PT.

But  if you say there was no intensity, I belive it.  We always talk about that.  They lost so much last year, in scoring and more importantly right now...leadership.  The upper classmen must take control and realize it is their team now.  As for Wise, again I have not seen a game, just the box scores.   He does have the talent and potential to be special that is for sure.

Early - what happened to squaring your body and ripping through the defenders arms...slaps or not.  Basically I just want this team to play with a sense of passion and intensity

That's an important concept.  They need to be a threat at all times with the basketball, whether they actually are going to atack or not is irrevelant.  If you square up and face the basket, the defender will think you are a threat.

Sorry cubs,

I would have enjoyed some RC talk, but I don't usually find the internet on the weekends. (I don't pay for it at home, so just while at work)

Ripon drops 5 in a row, with the greatest margin of victory being 6.   Average point margin is 3.6.  They are playing well, just have not found the knack to finish the games with a "W".

I also thought Cloeter played some good minutes last year.  I know the guy is a shooter.
