Haven't been on in a long time but just wanted to say congrats to Coe and the great season they have been having.  Besides the one loss to Central they have been firing on all cylinders.  two other things.  Brad Boyle the sophmore quarterback broke the NCAA record for most passes attempted in a row with out throwing an interception.  Also the freshman Frank Weymiller is now one sack away from drawing even with the single season sack record.  These are some great feats from some young gentleman and Coe has some great things looking ahead.  Lets beat Cornell next week.

yea i just left halftime and coe is up 21-20.  Wallace, the back up qb for coe, threw a great ball to Ratchford with about 8 minutes to go up 21-17.  Wartburg then drove down to the Coe 14 or so and couldn't convert so they kicked a field goal for the score we have now.  Kyle Brockmeyer has 2 picks so far in the game.  Should have had another but it went right through his hands for a Wartburg TD.

Don't think you can ask for a better day to play football in October.  Lets get it going Kohawks and come out right away and drive the ball down the Knights throats.  Have heard Coe has a good game plan this week but that only takes you so far. You have to execute when the game gets tough.  Hope nobody gets hurt and good luck.  Except to Loras and Wartburg.

coe game has been pretty sloppy so far.  Coe offense hasn't moved the ball much.  Loras got lucky with a bad no-call on intentional grounding then one of the Coe coaches got flagged for unsportmans like conduct.  Coe then blocked a fieldgoal with 18 seconds left in the first half.  Tied 14-14 at halftime

a little high school update.  Cedar Rapids Jefferson beat Dubuque Senior 39-8.  Tyler Evans the running back broke the school record with approx. 260 yards rushing.  They took him out most of the fourth quarter then heard he was only about 10 yards or so from the record and put him back in the get the record.  What is the consensus from the board about putting your starter back in after the win is already a given to have him get a record?

Hope all teams perform well today except Cornell.  Coe needs a win to come out from losing both nonconfrence games(which were the hardest one out of the IIAC). From talking with some of the guys they are hungry for a win and ready to take out their anger from the two losses on Cornell.  I will be there to cheer them on for the first time this year.  Hopefully bring them some good luck and blow them out.  Other predictions are UDubb over Luther, Simpson over BV, & Central over Wartburg.

On one little side note my hometown Indianola is 4-0 for the first time since 1975.  They have been playing for a fallen teammate who callopsed after a kickoff during practice(during camp) and has been in a coma since.  These kids are playing everygame for their fallen teammate and its really something to watch.  Running back had 647 rushing yards after the first 3 games.  Ok now back to IIAC action.

From what I heard Augie didn't run the spread hardly at all.  It was mostly the old wing T for them.  After all the hype of switching to a new offense it was the same old same old.  They did run the spread however it was only a few times.  The spread was not their main offense.

Charlie, are you serious? Thats really bush league right there. There has to be some sort of rule about sharing tapes and that both teams must provide the other with some.
Not completly sure about the rules but in Non-conference games the opposing team does not have to exchange tapes with the other team.  I understand Coe tried however Augustana did not want to.  We have some things to iron out before next week rolls around.  But we did show some signs of being able to compete, just not when we stop dead in our own tracks.

should be an interesting weekend.  Friday night coaching at Kingston vs. Kennedy.  Should be big becuase Jefferson beat #7 Xavier this last week.  Then the Kohawks play Augustana at 7 PM.  Should be another big night game.  First time these guys have played under the lights since they were in high school.  Rumor also has it that the Augustana QB is 5' 5" tall and he returns punts for them.  Can't wait for this weekend to start watchin D3 football again.

Jefferson vs. Xavier game was crazy last night.  0 to 0 going into the last quarter.  Then Jefferson running back ran 60 yards for a touchdown.  Then Xavier had the ball on Jefferson 7, 1st and goal.  1:40 left in the game.  Didnt get in on four straight plays.  Jefferson took the ball and knelt down to end the game.  Jefferson 7 Xavier 0

This is my distant, uninformed take on the IIAC this year:

!-2)  Of course it is Wartburg and Central fighting it out.  It will all depend on Yordi against the traditionally invincible Central secondary.  Plus to Central. But even Willis can't overcome that def.
3)  Dubuque's new QB (Olen, IA) doesn't have the same swager as Jemar Jackson.  Minus Dubuque.
4) Simpson moves up.  Maybe even over Dubuque.
5) Coe strugglers with coach having left.  Medicore recruiting this year and nothing exceptional returning. Next year they are back in it if they get a recruiting class and one year further head coaching experience.
6) BV stays where they were.  Improving but struggle with retention and recruitment.  Of course they will beat Luther as they have done for a dozen years.
7-8) Loras and Cornell in a pitch battle for 7 and 8th  place.  Loras is an non-entity at this time and Cornell seem to talk about a lot of ZIP. Norse may have a chance with LORAS, BUT......  .
9)  Alas, the Norse are trying to assemble a backfield of some sorts, have an new OL line and have a totally inexperienced secondary compounding on inept play last year.  Doesn't look good.   As much as I regret to have to say it, it appears that the Rams will indeed get their first win in IIAC since 2003 even at Carlson Stadium.

However, Alexander Pope once said, ""Hope springs eternal in the human breast:  Man never is, but always to be, blest".  Who knows.....but even those Norse have a chance.....to be blest.
Coe has nothing exceptional returning?  I already talked about Breitbach, (A preseason all-american) Harrison and Thomas at linebacker.  Started as sophmores last year and will be even better this year.  Hammes returning as running back, had some good games last year.  Returning 4 of 5 starting linemen from last season.  Jordan Wilkens returns as a preseason all-american DE.  He has started since he was a freshman.  So his senior year should be a big one.  The only question is QB.  If we can get a QB to fill in where Andy left off this team should be in great shape.
As for the coach leaving.  Not saying anything bad about Raburn but from talking to some of the guys they are having more fun this year in camp than they have had in the past.  Yes fun doesn't always account for wins however that what these guys are here for.  To play for the fun and love of the game.  Staker has proven he was a good head coach at Fredericksburg and has had a great defense since he came to coe.   I don't anticipate any downfall from the coaching change.

Let's all have a pretend drink of Wartburg's orange Koolaide for a minute.  Pretend that Wartburg runs the tables and Willis gets coach of the year.  Take another swallow of orange koolaide and say Yordi has a great year, would he get POY or will last year's moment of dimenished capacity haunt him?

Me, give me all the orange koolaide you want, I vote for a better role model.

I would love some orange drank, but I prefer the purple.  As for if Yordi has a fantastic year, I think it would be a huge mistake to not give him the POY award because I thought that award was to go to the player who meant the most to his team's success and had the best season.  I understand we want role models, but we are all humans and we all make mistakes.  He has done his time, served his suspensions, and whatever else he had to do to attempt to atone for his actions.  I am in no way condoning what he did, but I think that it should not have any effect on decisions towards a football related reward, though I am not naive to think that things off the field get in the way of such awardings.
If we are already talking about POY why Breitbach isn't included really confuses me.  A great punt/kick returner, WR and DB.  With another year of offense I would be very suprized if he doesn't get more touchdowns and yards.  On another note I was watching some of the scrimmage with Grandview and Coe was looking pretty good.  Moving the ball really well and scored on about 3 of the 8 or 9 plays i had time to watch.  Yes grandview is a first year team however it is encouraging watching coe move the ball with ease.

When I looked at the Grandview roster it seemed almost evenly split between Texas and Iowa kids.  I didn't notice many from Florida but maybe it has been updated.

Another interesting note about the Register.  A poster mentioned that if they didn't beat Coe in their scrimmage they would be in for a long year...inferring that D3 is weak.  They also mentioned that Grandview would be lucky to stay on the field against Southwest Baptist.  Southwest Baptist is a D2 school...but they are a D2 school that went 0-11 last season!!!

Some people that think they are football fans really have a very limited knowledge of the game!!!
I could have been misinformed.  I thought they said Texas and Florida but maybe it was just Texas.  Also I saw that they had a d-lineman that was 6' or 6' 1" and weighed 370 lbs roughly.  Thats a big boy

"Everybody in the conference always downplays us, thinks that we're not going to do anything," said Cornell running back Travion Hardman.
Yep. And until they do, we will continue to think that.
Lots of talk coming from Mt Vernon right now.

on a side note, Coe scrimmages Grand View today -- hate the choice to scrimmage a weaker team because it doesn't really tell you where you need to be the following week.  It will be nice to blow out the opposition, but that's not what a scrimmage is for.

Coe has scrimmaged Wisconsin Plattville the past few years but Plattville backed out from what i heard only a few weeks ago.  This leaving very few teams to scrimmage so Coe went with what was left.  So Grand View comes to Coe today for a scrimmage.  Also i have heard they got many kids from Florida and Texas because they offer scolarships.

looking for that article about Breitbach is it in the Des Moines Register?
