Quote from: XREDDRAGON77 on August 23, 2025, 12:10:44 PMCortland scrimmage anyone this week? Any word out of camp?
Hobart traveling to Cortland tonight for a scrimmage. I watched this game last year at Hobart and the Dragon first string offense was unstoppable. It will be interesting to hear feedback on this year's scrimmage.

Hobart scrimmages Cortland tonight at Cortland. Last year Cortland O had an impressive scrimmage at Hobart , but many new starters this year. Preseason doesn't mean that much, but this should be an interesting matchup as both teams get ready for week 1

The LL Coaches Poll: 2025 Season:

2025 LIBERTY LEAGUE FB PRESEASON POLL
Place. Team, Points (First Place Votes)
1. Hobart, 48 (6)
2. Ithaca, 44 (2)
3. RPI, 36
4. Rochester, 30
5. Union, 26
6. Buffalo State, 18
7. St. Lawrence, 15
8. Hilbert, 8
* A Coach cannot vote for his own team
Well, I guess the coaches in the league feel Hobart has the pre-season edge.

Quote from: Caz Bombers on August 25, 2025, 08:45:48 AMI can't help but note through social media and their website, as well as the LL website, that Union appears to have restored the old U logo without the cell phone charger symbol. The 1795 hockey puck emblem remains as well.
I've heard ever since the name change the U hasn't gotten any International students from the Netherlands...they must have been insulted. ;)

Quote from: IC798891 on August 19, 2025, 04:26:32 PMOverall LL thoughts:

Ithaca's probably the slight favorite, given that the only LL team to be within two scores of them was Hobart, who has yet to win at Ithaca ever.I also think Ithaca returns the top QB in the conference, as Matthew Parker led all LL QB's in conference-only...everything.

But Ithaca's got some major holes of their own to fill. And, again Hobart has E.J. Taylor who strikes me as the kind of game-taking over back that can carry a team to a conference title by himself. A lot will depend, IMO on which team's QB takes the next step. The game between the two last year featured, uh, let's call it suboptimal QB play from pretty much everyone involved.
Agree that Ithaca is the slight favorite this year, but with JLO and Williams graduating , who will pick up the slack? Parker was certainly the best QB for the entire season but Hobart had his number at the BOZ. Getting over the hump in Ithaca is critical for Hobart to end the streak, but I've said that before. A few EJ Taylor runs behind an experienced Hobart Line( 4 of 5 starters returning) may be the difference in a ball control game.I also think Tru Styles at QB  will make a big leap this year. The big question will be on Defense , will the LBs step up to replace last year's standout LB Seniors. All that said , RPI is always a threat to break your plans and should also challenge for the LL Championship. I've watched parts of a few of the Hobart practices and I'm impressed with some of the speed and agility of the DBs and WRs. It should be a fun season.

Congrats to LL Pre-Season AA picks:

Jordy Tawa,DB, Rochester, Ist Team defense

Vincente Lyon, P, Hobart, 2nd Team

Carson Ciancuielli, DT, Ithaca, 2nd Team Defense

I think they missed EJ Taylor, RB from Hobart who dominated the performance of Susquehanna's Ist team RB pick , Rahshan LaMons , in their first round playoff game as EJ had 3 TDs and 197 yards versus Rahshan's 1 TD and 126 yards

Looks like Mr. Hansen has done another good job in projecting the LL in 2025. I think it comes down to Hobart getting over the hump at Ithaca this year, which would be sooooo sweet if it happens. RPI is always in the hunt and we'll see if coach Drach scheduling two top ten teams before the LL season can toughen the Chargers up and make some waves. Perhaps the Yellowjackets or SLU are ready to make some noise....should be fun.

Quote from: UfanBill on August 12, 2025, 05:30:26 PMToday, 8/12, is move in day for the 2025 Union football team. The 108 man roster will need to fill some huge holes and quickly as their non conference schedule is daunting. At #4 Susquehanna followed by at #10 Cortland. Here's hoping some of the 31 first year's will step up early.

Speaking of stepping up early remember the name Ike Irabor? Ike and fellow freshman Andre Ross Jr. burst onto the scene in 2018 lighting a fire in the Union program which led to NCAA playoff appearances in 2019 and 2023. Both ended that first year as All Liberty League first teamers and went on to be Union all time greats. I always wonder if any of the 31 incoming newbies can be that next guy. One candidate I'm intrigued by is actually not a freshmen but a transfer portal sophomore, RB Jah'Cire Jones. He started his career at D1 East Carolina and is now at Union. There should be ample opportunity for Jah'Cire to shine since following the graduation losses of stalwarts Michael Fiore and Jonathan Anderson the running back room is thin. Union has a solid experienced QB returning in Patch Flanigan, a stable of suitable WR's and a O-line featuring 3 returning starters but can the ground game excel? Returning Sr. RB DJ Wright has only 27 career carries. I'm looking for Jah'Cire Jones to be that next great Garnet RB. If he does remember you saw his name here first.  8-)
Good luck to the Garnet Chargers and finding the next Ike/Andre combination. Hobart has been developing Tru Styles at QB and he should be ready to lead the offense in his Jr.year especially with 1200+ yard rusher EJ Taylor in the backfield . Hobart will need to be a road warrior squad as only 4 home games at the Boz this year. In order to repeat as the LL Champs, the Statesmen will need to win their first game EVER at the Bomber Bowl and win one at Frank Bailey. In between those two games they must defend the Boz against the always prepared RPI team for a three game run that will define the Hobart 2025 season. Looking forward to it all. GoBart!

Quote from: IC798891 on June 30, 2025, 10:15:33 AMDerek Slywka with a day and a half for the Toronto Argonauts.

First he returns a fumble 104 yards for a touchdown — the fourth longest fumble return in CFL history

Then he returns a blocked field goal 108 yards for another touchdown — the longest blocked FG return in CFL history.

Big time players, big time plays
Awesome , glad he has found a good home to continue his career. He was certainly a special player in college. Any other Bombers crack into a pro league?

Looking forward to potentially breaking the Bombers winning streak at Butterfield this year. Hobart has some serious holes to fill on Defense from our great goal line stands from last years game at The Boz, Only 2 months before the season  starts.

Saw Ali Marpet at HWS (Class of 2015) reunion and some of his teammates, all are in great shape and Ali has lost 70-80 pounds from his playing days. Dominique Ellis ,FB, is in the Secret Service for the last two administrations and is also a children's book author(no, neither Biden or Trump were subjects for his children's books).

Yes, RPI blew it, yes Ithaca shooting to start won it. I'm just surprised SLU and Hobart teams didn't play more consistently this year and get into the LL championship. All that said, good luck to Ithaca, you earned your opportunity in the tournament....just keep making those threes.

Schedules are out. Just over six months to opening for Hobart against Alfred on 9/5 followed by games against Brockport and Utica, all tough games to prepare for opener against the Bombers in Ithaca.

Bracket doesn't reseed so it's Union at RPI and SLU at IC.

Ooops, well these will be two very competitive games. Good luck to all.

Quote from: UfanBill on February 25, 2025, 09:21:53 PMYet another incredibly close, exciting game for the Garnet Chargers. It was remarkably similarly to Saturday's game. Hobart got off to a strong start while Union struggled with it's shooting. The Statesmen were up 35=30 at the half. Quickly after halftime the Garnet took the lead but from there it was lead change after lead change to the end of regulation.Fittingly the game went into overtime tied at 72. Again each team had the lead in OT right to the last seconds when the impossible happened as Union's Matthew Garside hit a buzzer beating 3 for the win! The third time he's done that this season.

Bartman your Statesmen played great but this seems like destiny.
Destiny for the Kiddie Chargers, for sure. A great game played well by both teams. If you told me Hobart would have a higher FG percentage than Union, with almost equal stats in Rebounds and turnovers, I would have bet anything that Hobart would win. But those threes and Icewater Garside were the difference. A very tough loss for the four Senior starters led by Aidan Rodgers, The Meshanic brothers and Pat Healy. Thanks to the Meshanic family that gave us three great Statesman basketball players (older brother Jackson was special) , and were key to two NCAA appearances and a Liberty League title. The Hobart future is bright because Coach Thompson wisely developed the underclassmen this season that will help Hobart contend again in 2025-26.
Good luck to the remaining LL teams. I think RPI will have their hands full with SLU's Seniors and Union might have another miracle finish in Ithaca.

Quote from: UfanBill on February 22, 2025, 07:47:10 PMIt was senior day for Union at the Viniar Center today. Well at least for the four graduating seniors in the Garnet Chargers women's program. They celebrated with a resounding 77-44 victory over William Smith. The men took to the court later and orchestrated yet another close game victory over Hobart, 76-69, to wrap up 4th place in the LL and a home game Tuesday...against Hobart. :o The Statesmen opened the game strong and built a 7 point halftime lead while Union struggled with their shooting hitting only 33.3% and even missing 3 of 6 free throws.  ::)

The second half was another story as Union caught fire shooting 58.6%, 5 of 9 from the arc and all 9 of their free throws. Hobart kept up and had their last lead 53-51 with 8:32 left before the Garnet slowly forged ahead. It was still a 3 point game at the 23 second mark until a spectacular putback tip in and four of those FTs sealed the deal.  No senior celebration ensued...because this sophomore dominated Union squad that's so fun to watch, has NO seniors.
UFAN, congrats on the win and earning the home court for the playoff game. At least Union doesn't shoot that damn cannon/or indoor equivalent after every basket. I think the reigning Champions, with their backs against the wall,  will be a tough out Tuesday for the Kiddie Chargers. Good luck.
