Quote from: cubs on April 26, 2025, 11:15:26 PMRough day for Platteville... Not only did they drop a game to lowly Eau Claire, but watched as Stout "stole" one from Whitewater as well.

Sweeps by Platteville and Whitewater tomorrow would leave both Stout and Platteville at 12-12 with four games left to play in the race for the #4 seed. Platteville travels to Whitewater to end the WIAC regular season while Stout hosts UWO.
The two teams split their season series so that tie breaker is out.  Stout has the win against us so if we were to sweep Platteville Stout would have the four seed regardless of what happens with Platteville/Oshkosh. Should both be tied after this weekend the four seed will go to Platteville by virtue of their win over La Crosse.
Couple of updates going into the last WIAC series of the season....

1. A 2-2 series by Whitewater against Platteville locks up the #1 seed for the Warhawks as they have the tiebreaker with La Crosse.

2. A 1-3 series by La Crosse against Stevens Point locks up the #2 seed for the Eagles as they have the tiebreaker with UWO.

3. A 1-3 series by UWO against Stout locks up the #3 seed for the Titans as they already have the tiebreaker with Platteville.

4.  Platteville will need to win at least one game over Whitewater and then hope Stout loses at least three out of four to UWO to earn the #4 seed.  Platteville controls their own destiny in the chase for the #4 seed, though an 0-4 series against Whitewater gives the final spot to Stout.

As far as the bolded, not exactly....  Should both go 0-4 this weekend, they finish tied at 12-16.  Stout would get  the #4 spot thanks to their victory over Whitewater on Saturday.

Is it just me or has Hagen not been as "dominant" his last few outings as he was last season for the Warhawks?  I can't help but wonder if all those innings on short rest during the Postseason last year are impacting his effectiveness this year, at least against teams in the top half of the WIAC?

Quote from: cubs on April 22, 2025, 01:12:25 PMBoth Stout and Platteville also have a difficult stretch to end the season finishing with eight against Whitewater/UWO and six against La Crosse/Whitewater respectively.  That said, if Platteville takes care of business against Eau Claire, I think they have the inside track at the #4 spot.  I may have written the Pioneers off a little too early after they were swept by UWO and started 2-6.
Platteville takes another step towards the #4 seed and picks up a nice win this afternoon thanks to a two out 2-run HR (their third HR of the afternoon) in the Bottom of the 8th inning to take the opener 4-2.... La Crosse put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the in the Top of the 9th but a groundout to third and a flyout stranded them.

With the switch to NPI ranking being the criteria for "at-large" bids this year, the WIAC is in position to have three teams qualify for Regionals this season with less than a month to go...  Whitewater and La Crosse are pretty much "locks" right now and UWO is safely in at this time being in the top half of the 23 at-large selections.

Quote from: cubs on April 07, 2025, 11:49:07 AMThrough two weeks of play, I feel like their is a significant gap from the top two teams in the league (Whitewater & La Crosse) to the third team in the league.  In addition, I don't think the gap from 3rd to 4th/5th/6th is even close to the gap from 1st & 2nd to 3rd...

Taking a look at things two weeks later, I'd maybe shift one team down a level, but otherwise most of this stays the same....

Losing three of four to River Falls is really going to come back to haunt Stevens Point...  While they are in the mix for the #4 spot right now, they finish with 8 out of 10 against La Crosse and UWO.

Have a weekend Adam Cootway!

He goes 10-for-17, with 5 HR's, and 14 RBI's in four games against Point this weekend...

UWO gets a seven inning no-hitter from Brett Gaynor to complete the DH sweep against River Falls yesterday. Gaynor faced the minimum 21 hitters with the only batter reaching due to an infield error but then being erased via a caught stealing.

That was the 12th no-hitter in the history of tge storied UWO baseball program.

UWO appears to be locking down the #3 seed beating up on teams in the lower third of the conference the last few weeks after losing five straight to La Crosse and Whitewater.

Yeah, I saw 6'8, 6'9, and 6'10. I went the lowest I guess to not oversell it.
I'll take the middle at 6'9," but after watching him multiple times (both in person and via streams,) he doesn't play anywhere close to his size in my opinion...  Likes to sit outside but doesn't have the footspeed to stay in front of wing type players.  I see him as a "project" type recruit where Lewis and company try to develop him and see if he can be productive as an upperclassmen.

Quote from: tomt4525 on July 10, 2024, 08:27:00 AMLa Crosse pitcher, Tyler Schmitt, can add his name to former WIAC pitchers transferring to the D1 ranks.  He committed to Illinois.
Interesting to think what La Crosse might look like this year if Schmitt was still anchoring that rotation.

At Illinois, Schmitt leads the team in IP, as he has made 9 appearances (all starts) and pitched to a 3-1 record with a 4.34 ERA as a weekend starter for the Illini.

Just another example of how many of the top players in the WIAC could compete at the D1 level on a fairly regular basis!

Whitewater strikes out just twice in 17 innings, including none in the opener of the DH, yet still suffers their first loss of the season and are only able to manage a split against UWO today winning 9-2 and losing 6-3.

Whitewater had the advantage in the pitching match-up as they sent Huseboe and Hagen to the mound while UWO went with the committee approach. Everything seemed to point towards a Whitewater sweep, however that's why the games aren't played on paper!

Stevens Point sweeps Eau Claire, Stout sweeps River Falls, and in the surprise of the day, Platteville eeks out a close 3-2 victory over La Crosse to earn a split.

Whitewater and UWO pushed their DH back to Thursday.

Quote from: BigPoppa on April 08, 2025, 09:08:19 AMIt would be an incredible feat for UWRF to make the WIAC post-season in their first year in the WIAC. Their proximity to the Twin Cites certainly gives them access to a lot of MN players.
*In their first year BACK in the WIAC....

I still remember the benches emptying up in River Falls my junior year after the River Falls catcher thought it was a good idea to bounce the ball off the top of the helmet of one of my teammates after recording the third out on a tag play at the plate.  Needless to say, the rest of the series didn't go too well for him and his teammates as we threw a pair of LHP's at them and they combined to score 4 runs in 18 innings.

More of the same today...

Whitewater completes four game sweep of River Falls, La Crosse dominates four game series vs UWO by scoring in double digits all four games, Stout sweeps Eau Claire again, and Platteville vs Stevens Point results in a split again today.
