The MC AD is currently filling in as Advancement head...the previous person was let go...and I suspect he is quite aware of these challenges. I think Raul Placeres, former BB coach, also had some role in fundraising for athletics and there is a relatively new effort to raise and designate funds for athletic programs. MC is looking to revamp the entire Advancement work using some consultants. It is not like it is a secret that this is challenging!

I hope MC can find more money than Flo will generate. I prefer that my degree be associated with SAA schools than with some of the other D3 schools in the Southeast....

I supported Maryville's move to SAA because the Scots did not fit very well with the CCS in terms of image and reputation. Many of us wondered how they were going to pay for the travel. I still do. Do you prioritize the image business over proximity and how would you decide? Do schools with plenty of money for travel have separate revenue streams...wealthy athletes as graduates? Do high school athletes care about academic/cultural reputations?

I hope the SAA affiliation for Maryville does not become a financial miscalculation...it is a long way to Texas and recruiting against well-heeled schools is hard....but I do think the school profiles are more similar than they have been since Maryville left the ODAC. Still, much of the SAA is wealthier than MC. And then there is FloSports to annoy us.

As a Maryville alum and resident of Maryville with decent ties with folks there, I hope they do not do the Greek route. It shows a lack of imagination to think recruiting and retention will be enhanced by creating yet another system to divide and segregate students. Part of the point of smallish liberal arts colleges is the building of community and not the encouragement of mini-cliques. I agree with another poster that the attraction currently of northern students to the South has more to do with the lure of D1/SEC sports mania than with anything that frats would "fix."

Lacross, on the other hand, might work. So would wrestling.

Maryville is and always has been DIII....

I am surprised to see Centre and Sewanee on the losing money lists....

I asked the AD at Maryville about the SAA signing up with FLO and Trinity's decision to not sign up with FLO. Answer was that Trinity can afford not to and Maryville cannot. There is pent up demand for higher quality streaming in the MC athletic world, and this is an effort to deal with it.  As usual, it is about money.

The elimination of sociology as a major puts BW right in line with DeSantis' campaign to eliminate fields in Florida where students might learn how social forces work. And who needs to know how capitalism works?  I am glad I am not trying to run a college these days!

Well so much for resisting.  Here is Maryville's posting about this error.

It will be interesting to see if MC hires a former Scot...there are quite a few out there.

Raul will be a D1 head coach someday. It is too bad he and others cannot make much money in D3.

Bellhaven almost pulled a major upset representing the CCS in the tournament, falling to St. Thomas (27-10) in OT. Nice work, Blazers. Maybe this league is better than national pundits think.

Maryville was in a tournament at Emory which was a Flo event, so I could not watch any games without buying way more access than I wanted. I am sure Emory can afford not to be part of this.

I played a lot of intramural flag football in college. It is a serious game and fun to play and watch and pretty "safe."
