The last time Coach Kahn took his team to a final Cabrini was ranked no.5 and this Mary Washington team was also ranked 5th at the end of the regular season. This time his team is ranked behind their opponent(Emory no.2 vs Whitewater no.8) in 2012 Final.

Rooting for Marcus and UMW to win it all!

Mary Washington wins. On to the final. This is the second trip to a national championship for Marcus Kahn. He takes his second different school to a national championship game. I saw that a couple other coaches took 2 different teams to a final four. How many have taken 2 teams to a final? Congrats to Mary Washington and Coach Kahn.

We've gone from thisTM

Quote from: Just Bill on January 24, 2007, 02:41:09 PMOK, this is kind of a corny thing that me and my college buddies used to do for various leagues.  We start the season with the previous year's national champion and award them the "Championship Belt" (think boxing).  That team can then hold the belt until they lose to another D-III team.  Then that team holds the belt as long as they can.  It's kind of a take-off of being "the team, that beat the team, that beat the team." Almost always the Belt winner is also the national champion.  I've tracked it back to the start of this season.  I'll keep track of it for a while and see if any else thinks its fun (or not).

Nov. 17-Nov. 27 - Virginia Wesleyan (lost to Averett 81-73)
Nov. 27-Jan. 2 - Averett (lost to Guilford 74-69)
Jan. 2-Jan. 7 - Guilford (lost to Virginia Wesleyan 75-55)
Jan. 7-Current - Virginia Wesleyan

Next Championship Belt game:  Tonight, Hampden-Sydney at Virginia Wesleyan

Since we are firmly entrenched in conference play it doesn't appear the Belt will get out of the ODAC until tournament time.

To ThisTM

If any one is interested to know. Former Cabrini head coach Ryan Van Zelst got hired by a D2 school. Best of luck to him!

I agree that van Zelst is a great young coach. What he did with this last Cabrini team was nothing short of amazing. The team was well coached and they played really hard for him. He just didn't have the horses. I'd be excited to see him have an opportunity with a school that has a true commitment to the student/athlete experience.

I missed the boards to express my thoughts. Glad they're back. The season was very difficult. Coach Ryan did a fantastic job this year with what he had. The Cavs played hard and were well coached. They just didn't have enough to compete. Alumni day was the highest point of the season. The Cavs won their last game ever and over 100 alums showed up to celebrate Cabrini Basketball and its legacy. An alum said to me on President's day as Cabrini played their last basketball game,"Think about this...Coed 1974 & approximately 5 senior players a year & 2 senior managers...That means there's only about 350 of us in total with another 150 who never finished at Cabrini...It's a really small fraternity....🏀
I am really am honored and humbled to be part of the fraternity!

I don't know why I continue to read this childboard? I see conference changes for 2024-25 and see Cabrini (AEC) closes and it just continues to sadden me. It's as if I'm hoping for Cabrini not to close and I'll wake up from the nightmare. :'(

Just In...

Kate Pearson leaves Cabrini for Rowan.
Great hire for the Prof's...no sense in her wasting another year with a program about to turn the lights off.

And the bleeding continues. Ugh! Death by a thousand cuts.  :(
