Quote from: y_jack_lok on February 02, 2026, 06:49:23 PMD3 Datacast has Mary Wahington at Randolph-Macon on Saturday as its game of the week, with RMC as a 10.5 point favorite. Seems to me that their computer needs tweaking. They seem to agree. They were surprised to see such a huge spread and both picked UMW to at least keep it to a single digit game, though neither mused about the possibility of the Eagles actually winning. But I'd just call it a tossup.

But, that's getting ahead of things. First the Jackets have to get past H-SC on Wednesday.

RMC by 11.  ;D

I didn't think the Jackets played particularly well but then I'd look up and they were up by 20.They did play sloppy at times and you could tell HSC was down a few guys and it showed.Had they been fully loaded the outcome could have been different. Now we have to face a MWU team fresh off of a tough loss to CNU but the good thing is that it will be in Crenshaw on a Saturday afternoon with a full house. We usually play very well in big games in Crenshaw PLUS "The Crenshaw Crazies" will be out in FULL FORCE! Should be a heck of a ballgame!

Gonna be an interesting week in D3HOOPS! Mary Wash has to run the gauntlet this week playing CNU IN Newport News on Wednesday and the Jackets in Crenshaw Saturday at 4pm!! After this week something's gonna give nationally! So many upsets and losses by top teams it's still a crapshoot who's gonna come out of this in the drivers seat going into the Home Stretch!! ODAC is still very much up for grabs for seedings too!! We still have HSC on Wednesday before we can even think about Mary Wash on Saturday!!It's getting interesting!! 🐝🐝🐝GO JACKETS!!🐝🐝🐝

Quote from: y_jack_lok on January 29, 2026, 09:50:24 AM^^^ Yeah, Robinson didn't play at Randolph on Friday, either. He's wearing a boot on his right foot last night. Marty & Andrew said they were giving it some extra rest and hope he'll play at W&L on Saturday.

Great shooting percentages for the Jackets last night to go with strong rebounding and 24 turnovers by EMU (many unforced), resulting in EMU only taking 36 shots and getting only three offensive rebounds. Unlike at Randolph, where only one player scored in double figures and 13 players scored, last night six Jackets reached double figures.

A tough final stretch coming up for RMC with games at W&L and H-SC, then home vs #3 Mary Washington, followed by at Shenandoah, where the Hornets always make it hard for the jackets, and then home rematches with the only teams to beat them (so far) -- Averett and VWU -- and away at Bridgewater to end the regular season.
I only watched the first half and turned it off the score was so lopsided so I must've missed Marty and Andrew talking about Jabril! Yes we have a tough stretch ahead and if we can make it to the Mary Wash game without another loss it sets that game up to be HUGE in postseason seedings and hosting opportunities! Whomever wins that game barring a late season collapse will be in the drivers seat to host all the way through to the Final Four. One would assume that both would host early in the NCAA's but the later games, should both advance, the nod would probably be given to host to the victor of that game, if the brackets were set up that way! Too much basketball left to play to look ahead, however !! It would be nice if we kept winning to host in the later rounds  because "The Crenshaw Crazies" are worth a few points just because of the sheer noise and havoc and our young men seem to feed off of that enthusiasm very well!!It truly is one of the great venues in DIII to watch playoff basketball! Let's hope we keep our heads on a swivel and play one at a time and that will fall in our favor in due time!! GO JACKETS!!

Noticed Jabril Robinson didn't play at all last night for the Jackets and starters only logged between 20-25 minutes in  the runaway win vs EMU last night in Crenshaw. Speasking to some basketball alumni this am is seems the sickness bug ( dunno if its Flu or what) has bitten the Jackets. Freshman Brady Lam only logged 5 minutes last night as he was also recovering from being sick, also. We have to go to W&L on Saturday.....Hope our guys can stay well and play well vs the Gennies.

Quote from: Tigerfan on January 22, 2026, 10:21:09 AMThe Jackets - Marlins game must have been a nerve-racking watch.  The box score says the lead changed hands a remarkable 19 times and the score was tied 11 times.  For reference, the 2 point AU win over RMC had 5 lead changes, the W&L 2 point win over GC had only 2 lead changes (also remarkable with GC having a 10 point lead at the half) and W&L's 1 point win over Noke had 5 lead changes.

Definitely nerve-racking. Before the game the RMC announcers, who made the trip down and called the game on radio, cited VWU's relatively poor three-point shooting this season. That changed last night as they hit 10 of 22 for 45.5%, which I think was at least a 10-percentage point improvement over their season average. Several times RMC defenders were just slow to get out and contest those shots. Down by six at the half, the Marlins switched their offensive strategy and got the ball in to Amari Moorer more frequently. He's good around the basket and passes well also. It all worked for them. Conversely, the Jackets couldn't hit their three-point attempts (4-18). Neither team was that great from the free throw line.

Just like at Averett, the Jackets lost on a contested three with seconds remaining. Both of those shots were taken from nearly the same spot on the floor -- albeit different floors.

So RMC has two road losses by a total of three points, both on last second made three pointers.
If you let teams hang around like that and don't put them away- especially when they are at home-thats the recipe for getting beat late and thats exactly what happened! Not to take anything away from the Fish- they did what they hd to do to beat us! Plus we certainly didn't help ourselves with our 3 point and free throw shooting either! We had chances to put them away and we just didn't! Still-losing two games -both at the buzzer on 3 tough pointers- isnt terrible either-but both games we did the same thing-which I'm quite sure Josh Merkel is driving in their heads at practice right now! Not a terrible loss but we will drop in the polls again- but I wouldn't think much lower than 10th.We're still very much in the hunt for an ODAC and a National Championship- IF we can get those lazy spells out of us! GO JACKETS!

I've had FloSports for about a year. Our Grandson plays in the SCAC- he plays shortstop for the University of Dallas and the SCAC has had an agreement with Flosports to broadcast all of their games for some time now and if we wanted to see him play( short of flying to Dallas every weekend) we had to suscribe to Flosports. So when the ODAC decided to go with Flosports my wife and I already had a history with them. For the most part they do a great job- sometimes, depending on the school, they may not have announcers available or the video feed may not be the best but thats not FlosSports-its the school! It may take them a little time to work all of the kinks out, especially in sports theyre not used to broadcasting but I will say for the most part they do very well.I think its great for sports that they havent traditionally broadcasted- especially for parents that don't live that close to a school like my wife and I are with The U of Dallas because it gives us an opportunity to see all of the games! The only downside is that we now are paying for what we used to get free, but that is just a part of the world of competitive atghletics in this day and time.

RMC at VWU in a rare 5 pm start Im assuming to accommodate the ladies game afterwards. I was gonna go but the 5 pm start time prevents that so I guess Ill catch it on FloSports.

Jackets only drop to#5 just ahead of Mary Wash, which is #6, setting up a huge matchup as long as both stay unbeaten in between now and  Feb 7 which is a HUGE "IF", because looking at our schedule we have a number of games we could easily get beaten!  Running the ODAC Gauntlet can be BRUTAL this time of year! We play VWU, HSC, W&L, just to name a few between now and then! But if we both survive it will be a HUGE GAME IN THE COTU ON FEB 7!!One game at a time fellas!!!🐝🐝🐝🐝 GO JACKETS!!🐝🐝🐝

I'm on a Caribbean Cruise with the wife and after coming upstairs after a good night( for my wife) in the Casino I just made the remark to my wife that " i wonder how many points we beat Averett by"...........UHHHHHH..... We got BEAT! Didn't see the game but kudos to the Cougars!!.... Our press release says we were outrebounded and Averett hit some key 3's to beat us! Just goes to show that you can't let up.... Not NONE.... Not ANY- in the ODAC!Anyone can beat you and congrats to Averett for doing just that!! We better straighten up or we'll get BLOWN OUTA RAGAN-BROWN! Always a tough game for us in Greensboro, and their announcers remind me of the old Jimmy Thacker-Billy Packer Pilot Life days of the old school ACC!  Great guys to listen to when you can't Have Marty and Andrew!! PICK IT UP JACKETS!!🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

SEATFILLER- Your Maroons played well today and had us on the ropes!! Nice hard nosed man to man defense on us kept us off balance all day and made us work for everything we got! Kudos to your boys for a good game we very easily could have lost! We were fortunate enough to sink our FT at the end! Now we go on exam break and then on to Nashville for a tournament just before Christmas and then back in the COTU for our tournament before wading into the meat of the grueling ODAC gauntlet in January! All in all we're better off than many thought we'd be!! A lot of the credit goes to Coach Merkel and his staff for keeping our young men on an even keel through this tough early schedule!! 🐝🐝🐝GO JACKETS!!🐝🐝🐝

Quote from: y_jack_lok on December 04, 2025, 06:27:23 PM^^^ Speaking of Brady Lam not getting many minutes, Ollie Jones didn't play at all. I can't imagine it was for lack of effort on defense in practice. Do you know if he was sick or injured?
That one I don't know....Ill try to find out..

Quote from: y_jack_lok on December 04, 2025, 09:18:11 AMYep, quite the surprising result in Crenshaw. Defensively it seemed that Jackets were coming from nowhere to double and triple team whichever Tiger was holding on to the ball for more than two seconds, resulting in turnovers. Jackets were also quicker on both ends. Coach Merkle said in the post-game interview that he likes the team's depth and quickness (or he might have said speed). Anyway, no laurels to be rested on. Every game is a new game. I hope the Jackets play as well on Saturday vs Roanoke.
My big take was also Delani Hammonds, our lightning quick Sophomore guard from Charlotte,NC who was one of the ones applying the pressure! Hes incredibly fast and for as fast as he is he always seems under control! Another standout was Ty Showalter, another  Sophomore North Carolinian from Charlotte! I was disappointed that Brady Lam didn't play more. The Freshman from the Charlottesville area was highly touted at the start of the season, seems to have gotten into Coach Merkel's doghouse for what I understand was not working hard enough on his defense in practice, which is a HUGE NO NO in our program, which thrives on defensive pressure! He did play some, but not nearly as much as he has been, which led me to ask some questions of my frat brothers who were also big in our basketball program and who I knew had the answer as to why. Lets hope he works his way back into Coach Merkel's good graces! After Saturdays game comes exam break, and if our Freshmen don't know how serious we are about our players academic progress THEY WILL BE if they don't do well in the classroom!! Hope we're on Saturday vs the Maroons as much as we were last night! GO JACKETS!!
