Also, fair or otherwise, a name program like RMC, with a super strong schedule, is never going to lack for attention.  It's just easier for me to leave a team like that off in the preseason in favor of lesser known programs that might benefit from the extra eyes an early Top 25 vote gets them.

As a practice, I don't like preseason polls at all, because it's pure speculation.  I get their purpose, but I certainly don't think inclusion or exclusion means anything for the teams involved.

NEVER EVER count Josh Merkel out! I know we have a tough early schedule but Ryan you just put yourself on the locker room wall with that explanation, correct or not! I agree we have lots to prove, but time and time again Josh and his kids have risen to the occasion. Even if we come out of this 0-4, I would expect him to have them much more ready after Christmas.....he usually does!If we come out of this 3-1 or more realistically 2-2 I would expect them right back in the thick of it all!

We usually slip up to 3rd floor to watch the game because the view is better! the only people up there were a few of the leftover PA grad alums. talked to some pretty heavy hitters Money wise that are on the Board of Trustees and we will move to 2K PLUS enrollment soon with maybe some new exciting majors too-WE'RE GROWING!!

We still have to go to Winchester to play Shenandoah next weekend and then Roanoke in the COTU before that happens however!! Not much of a game yesterday....we were up 34-3 at half and we left YJ Club and spent the 2nd half in the tailgate lot catching up with old friends!! Beautiful day in the COTU yesterday!! Still lots of football to be played.... I kind of like the formation the Jackets use sometimes with another back in the backfield and Mitchell"THE HAMMER" Johnson lined up in the slot as a receiver! He can catch the ball and is a terror to bring down once he catches it!! Tigers look tough but we can't get caught up in that- we have to take care of business the next two weeks before we even THINK OF THAT!! GO JACKETS!!!

Going up to Ashland tomorrow-Its Homecoming in the COTU! Always a good time seeing old friends and I'm delivering an engagement ring to one of a friend from R-MC's son( I own a jewelry store)for his surprise engagement soon. We should win easily vs Guilford, but Pedro never takes anyone for granted! Weather is supposed to be great-in the Low 70's and looking to have a nice time tomorrow. Big game of the weekend is HSC in Lexington against the Gennies of W&L.Gonna have my phone on FloSports keeping an eye on that game and our announcers are always good at relaying ODAC scores during the game! Good Luck to all this weekend and prayers noone gets injured badly!

 I didn't see much except the first quarter and we went right down the field and scored.I had to attend a funeral at 2pm so I missed most of the game but I can't say I was surprised that we lost. As others have pointed out, we are a step or two below where we have been the last few years and it showed. The rest of the season should be extremely interesting, but I think at this point W&L and HSC have the upper hand on whom will make the playoffs. Lots of football left to be played, however. We still have a shot but we must win out and depend on someone else to knock off the Gennies and we MUST beat HSC in Farmville- no easy task either. We have a road game at Shenandoah on Halloween and we have a home game with Roanoke, then we have to go to HSC. Thats a tough gauntlet for the last three weeks! We could sneak through and win the conference, but I wouldn't count on it at this point. W&L has HSC on Oct 24, and the last two weeks they have Shenandoah in Lexington and travel to Roanoke the last week. HSC has W&L on the 24th in Lexington the Averett and Bridgewater before ending with us at home. If the Tigers can beat W&L on the 24th they will be in the drivers seat for the title. W&L also controls their fate but they have a bit tougher road. Like I said-this last month will be interesting-its not much fun depending on someone else to lose, but we've made our bed and have to hope that will happen in order to sneak into the playoffs.

Dickinson beat JHU today 35-21 That bodes well for us i guess.... That conference is turned upside down right now! We looked a little sloppy today but it's hard to gripe when you win 46-6....lol...Pedro has them where they need to be...they will only get better from here. Mental mistakes, like  the INT thrown in the first half that led to Bilgewater's only score, clouded the water a bit.... I watched the CNU- Susquehanna game yesterday.... The Captains are FOR REAL! Defense is STOUT!! Plus they have a good running back-#1-that never gives up and has a low center of gravity and moves the chains!! I expect them to go far this year in the postseason!! And as to the comment that the road to the ODAC Championship running through Ashland..... well I would just say MAYBE. The parity in our league is closer this year than in past years....there are four or so teams that can win it!! Gonna be an interesting year!!

I think we may have found the next receiver a la David Wallis, who graduated two years ago and had BLAZING SPEED, in #80 Quentin Jones. Case in point-he was First team ALL STATE at the program at Lord Botetourt High School in Roanoke  on both offense and defense, He is starting to get more playing time and already has two TD's on the year. Compare that with all time Jackets greats Keith "Sleepy" Gilliam who only had two TD's in his first TWO YEARS as a Jacket and David Wallis who only had 4 TD's in his first two years as a Jacket. Pedro is not always real keen on playing Freshman a lot and it looks like Mr Jones has impressed him. LOOK OUT for this kid going forward. He has impressed us the first few games.The jury is still out on how good he will be going forward but hes certainly a kid to watch in the ODAC and beyond for the next few years!

MACON-That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about with the Football Alumni guys! My Cuz and I went  upstairs to YJ Club because we were HUNGRY and didnt bring much food to the tailgate this game otherwise we usually watch Pedro and his boys storm in! I sent this to all of my friends who are Football Alums and they LOVED IT! We should call it "THE R-MC FOOTBALL ALUMNI GAUNTLET"!! All of us are in our 60's now....LOL LOVE seeing the younger Football Alums doing this!

Listened to Pedro on Patrick and Greg's podcast and he was his usual self but he did say they "made a few adjustments on the fly last week" that made a difference! DO YA THINK?? One of my friends who lives close by and is a Football Alum told me he went to practice last week to watch and it was INTENSE! LOTS of POPPIN' and half line play in the trenches! I don't think it was an easy week of practice but IN PEDRO WE TRUST! One thing is FO SHO- Pedro DOESENT BS! One thing he said stands out- "I told my kids that if you want to be ranked higher and be more respected nationally then go out and win the Big GAMES!" That says VOLUMES about why we love that guy! If you talk to parents they will also tell you that HE BUILDS MEN! He may not go 10-0 every year but those kids respect and will play for him and HARD too! My 94 yr old cousin and I were sitting up on 3rd floor YJ Club with some of them and they all said the same thing- They LOVED their kids playing for him! Plus the amount of Alumni kids that played that come back to games is also a testament! Like he says....." BUILD AND FIGHT"! Lets hope we keep it going this week against Maryville in the COTU and don't have a let down!

I was driving through a rainstorm on the way home and just spoke into my phone.....it was the same when I got home but Im dried off and better now! A few things.... Yes JHU was without their best two receivers but I was surprised that they didn't try to stretch our defense with longer passes. I don't think they threw deep but twice today, and one was the one intercepted at the end. They were content to dunk the ball downfield with short passes because we pretty much stopped their running game and had them in numerous third down plays. To  their credit, they converted on a number of them........Mitchell " THE HAMMER" Johnson ran like a man possessed today!! He was, in two words, A BEAST today for us!We bent but didn't break on defense today....even without their two best receivers they were tough. One thing I did notice, however, was that we just seemed to be in better shape than they were physically. The heat and humidity seemed to get to them more than us. One thing I don't like is platooning QB's..... we love Pedro and trust him above all but I don't like switching those guys in and out.. We were a TOTALLY DIIFERENT TEAM TODAY than last week!! That is not unusual for younger teams but Pedro had them ready to play today!! Let's hope that spills over into next week!! GO JACKETS!!
