Kind of a surprise we got sent up there but had we remained in our regular geographical bracket it would have been just as bad! We go to John Carroll and if we can get over that hurdle we get the privelidge of probably going to Mount Union( OH BOY!!) But as the old adage goes...." if you wanna BE THE BEST, you gotta BEAT THE BEST!" Is true here!! Accept the challenge HEAD ON FELLAS!! 🐝🐝🐝GO JACKETS!🐝🐝🐝

Quote from: Tigerfan on November 16, 2025, 07:15:04 AMThe Jackets did a great defensive job on Zevi Samet - 6 points.  Hw was the Region 3 POY last year and has averaged 22 ppg for his career.  He'll finish his career with well over 2000 points.

They definitely did a great job keeping him from getting the open threes he thrives on.  He was also hampered by foul trouble and I suspect, given they had to play again in 16 hours, coach rested him at the end when things were already out of hand and he was very frustrated.
i agree with Ryan's previous assessment about Yeshiva being sloppy.... They play sloppy.... But, really strangely, they all seem to be very smart players who recognize opportunities, also- if that makes any sense! Case in point- they tend to try to force passes into places, especially with our heady team, that plays right into what we want them to do. But at the same time they also seem to have a sixth sense about each other and where the open man should be at exactly the right time !  I guess a better way to put this they have the right ideas but don't execute them exactly right. We are a better team right now but that's not to say they won't be much better later. Josh was smart enough to blanket their best scorer and it seemed to really frustrate him and his team mates! We've run gauntlet #1 so far and came out smelling pretty good.... Now let's see how well we do with gauntlet #2.... At least both of those game are in Crenshaw!

Yeshiva comes to Crenshaw tomorrow evening for an 815 Tipoff precipitated by the Jewish Sabbath ending at sundown.Plus tomorrow is "The Game" vs HSC at Day Field- PLUS its Homecoming at RMC, which makes for a very busy weekend in the COTU! Don't know what we'll see in Yeshiva, but they are usually well coached and a good team so I expect a good game! We were supposed to play them in the NCAA Playoffs the very day the NCAA shut down for CoVid in 2020 and that was supposed to be a huge matchup then. I would expect Josh has his kids ready to play and we should have a good crowd in Crenshaw so it should be a good atmosphere GO JACKETS!!

Last nights RMC-CNU game could be called a tale of two halves. The officiating was sub par- when I say that I don't mean it was one sided, although CNU went to the line 33 times I think compared to our 9- what I mean was that it just wasn't consistent! In the first half they called every little pitty pat hand check and reach and in the second half they let them play. In the first half every RMC starter had at least two fouls, which affected  our game- Jabril Robinson didn't even play 10 minutes the first half I don't think. Like my colleague Yeljacklok said we were turnover prone, and we were lucky CNU shot so badly from outside the 2nd half!!We continue to be vulnerable inside, also. Had CNU pushed it inside like they did the first half we could have been in trouble. All in all it's still really early in the season  and it's a learning experience for both teams! If we met them later in the season it would probably be a much better game but we'll take the "W"! Now back home to face Yeshiva Saturday night!

RMC with a tough week this week- Tomorrow at always tough CNU in the Freeman Center and Saturday night back in the friendly confines of Crenshaw Gym vs Yeshiva! Then we get two weeks off before we have HSC and Roanoke back to back in Crenshaw on Dec 3 and 6th! Thats a GAUNTLET to run early! By the end of that week we'll see if we deserve to be ranked at all! Josh likes to play a tough schedule early and this is no exception. I guess he likes to know what he has to work on BEFORE the Christmas break but we have TWO tournaments over that break-one before Christmas in Nashville and one after in Ashland! By the time we get into the meat of the ODAC schedule in January our guys should be BATTLE TESTED! On a side note- the 1984 DII team will be recognized this weekend at the HSC Football game so I have A LOT of frat brothers who played basketball that will be there this weekend- one- Gregg Marshall( Frat name "OPIE")had considerable success coaching at the D1 level with a number of different schools, the last being Wichita ST. He, former All American Jesse Hellyer, Drew Catlett ,and others will be by my tailgate on Saturday at the football game before the Yeshiva game, which is an 8pm start to accommodate Yeshiva's Religious beliefs. Should be a FUN WEEKEND! Haven't seen "Opie" in person to talk to him in YEARS!

Kind of a shame, actually! This game was really gonna MEAN SOMETHING! Now we play for (fingers crossed) a home game in the first round if we ball out next week. If we don't God know where they'll send us.... Probably someplace worse than CNU or Salisbury.... And that's bad enough!

Quote from: Tigerfan on November 07, 2025, 10:28:15 AMMore ODAC teams are facing off against Top 25 opponents tonight.  Lynchburg vs Catholic (neutral court) and Guilford at Mary Wash are also worth noting.  Guilford is an almost complete rebuild except for Gabe Proctor, so we get to see how that is going.
Hadn't looked at the ODAC website nor the schedule on here but you're right these are big too!

BIG games tonite! HSC travels to DA BEACH and plays #7 UW-La Crosse and VWU plays Keene St. Winners play tomorrow night I presume. #2 RMC travels to Gettysburg for their kickoff classic to play Eastern..... Winner plays the Gettysburg-Wilson winner. The Jackets then travel to NNews to play #9 CNU in a tough environment of the Freeman Center. We usually bring a lot of fans- especially those from here in Hampton Roads, but its nowhere near the advantage we have in Crenshaw Gym! Freeman Center can get really rowdy also, and its a bigger building with more seats than we have! This is ALWAYS a HUGE tough game for us- then we return to Crenshaw the following Saturday to play Yeshiva on the night of the RMC-HSC Football game that should decide the ODAC title in Football and the NCAA bid! Crenshaw should be ROCKING then also!

Quote from: rmc1982 on October 23, 2025, 02:05:26 PMThey scouted us well and exposed our weaknesses and exploited them- good for them. Then they got beat the next game because the other team didn't let that happen.

Catholic won the next game as well, the one against Roanoke. Catholic's loss was in the Elite 8 to the national champ.
Excuse me Pat My memory isnt what it used to be.  Thats right....I should have looked it up. I know they got beat finally but couldnt remember who beat them

I don't personally think we deserve the #2 ranking because, even though Joe Bachman is listed as 6'8", we really lack size in the middle and we didnt get any more in this years freshman class. We got beat by Catholic in the playoffs last year because of that- Catholic had a big man inside that killed us! HSC has size and will probably give us fits! I hope I'm wrong- we do have a ton of upperclassmen and shooters and mid size kids in the 6'4"-6'7" range- we just lack even a Miles Mallory mid sized kid who can leap out of the gym, but a kid like that only comes along once in a blue moon and we were fortunate enough to have he and Buzz at the same time! We are a viable top 10 and time will tell if we can challenge nationally! Great for our conference and our Commonwealth, however with the rankings! I cant wait to see us vs Yeshiva on the 15th- should be a great crowd in Crenshaw since its the same day as the HSC football game  that may determine the ODAC Football Championship, also. As a side note, my frat brother and RMC HOF member Jesse Hellyer '85 and some of his teammates from the '85 Basketball team that was a DII National Power back in the day will be honored at Halftime of the HSC Football game. He and Rod Wood, Gregg Marshall, Drew Catlett, and others will be in attendance for the Yeshiva game also! Havent seen Gregg "Opie" Marshall except on TV coaching in years- hes also a frat brother! Should be a great weekend in the COTU!

Jknezek- You must either be in the Ad or in or have some connections to W&L's Athletic office-you've got all the agreements and scheduling down pat! All I know is what I get from our AD Jeff Burns who was a classmate or from Josh Merkel or well placed Football Alums who are buddies! I guess scheduling is a nightmare at times, especially for Football where there's so many less games. Gonna be interesting to see who wins out and who is in the playoffs- we usually only get one in the ODAC, probably because of our SOS. If we win out, unlike in previous years when we got a home game first round, we're up against a CNU team that, if they win out, will probably host- and that would probably go for whomever wins the ODAC. It looks like it will either be RMC, W&L, HSC, or Shenandoah. Right now we are in the drivers seat, but we still have Shenandoah home on Nov 1 and HSC at home in "THE GAME" on Nov 15. At this point, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! Good Luck to all but GO JACKETS!!

Quote from: rmc1982 on October 21, 2025, 11:08:54 AMI realize all of this guys....and I know the challenges we face! I've been a fan since I was 5 or 6 and I'm 65 now- I remember when we were in the Mason-Dixon Conference!I also realize that these schools are in for ALL SPORTS......I GET IT! I'm just a little frustrated.....Maryville  used to be in- if we could get them back in that would be GREAT- CNU would be PERFECT.....so would Salisbury and especially Johns Hopkins! But CNU and Salisbury( I think- I KNOW CNU is) are  STATE schools so that wouldn't work for the by laws of the ODAC. IF we could change that those two would be a perfect fit and so would JHU( I don't think theyre State supported) If we don't and we stay where we are we will ALWAYS be an "also ran" Nationally in Football- THAT was my point! I have griped and I know others have here too that our conference never gets any respect in Football- and RIGHTFULLY SO! If we stay where we are that will always be the case....and you cant blame the prognosticators for that ! I know we would have to TOTALLY change the bylaws to let in CNU , Salisbury, or perhaps JHU and they would also have to WANT TO come in so I guess Jknezek is right- we're STUCK in the situation we're in- doesen't make it any easier....and NO I don't have a solution.... but I wish there was!

Salisbury and CNU are state schools. Changing the by-laws isn't going to happen, especially not just for football. JHU has 0 reason to leave a much more compact and competitive conference to travel all across Virginia and into NC. If anything, I suspect JHU would move to the UAA and like-minded schools.

Maryville left the ODAC for a reason. While I suspect they weren't thrilled with the USASAC, the SAA allows them to affiliate with some bigger academic name brand schools. The travel sucks, one reason I never wanted W&L to move to the SAA since I still believe that students belong on campus in D3, but for Maryville? Being associated with Rhodes and Berry and Trinity and Sewanee is a lot better than a road game in basketball to Eastern Mennonite or Randolph College.

You can draw up a short-list of desires, but Santa isn't bringing that bag in December.
EXACTLY why I said you were right. We USED TO play JHU every year first or 2nd game and it stopped when the ODAC made those arrangements with the conference Berry is in for non conference games....then that fell through. W&L always plays Salisbury or  some other better teams early.HSC played W&J and Delaware Valley this year and we went to Iowa to play Central. Getting better teams seems like it can be a challenge - thats really the only way to bring up SOS for our teams. We don't seem to have problems in Basketball- Mens or womens - but the ODAC is one of the better conferences for that. PLUS there are so many more games . Hopefully better competition at the Top Tier of our conference will help. HSC and Roanoke look like theyre trending upward and so does Shenandoah. W&L is already there along with RMC for being competitive Nationally. Hopefully that trend keeps going.

Quote from: thescottharris on October 19, 2025, 10:02:45 PMThe bottom three in the ODAC this year are embarrassingly bad. This has to be the worst it's been ever since I started following in 2010.

And then Bridgewater is sputtering around on life support, on pace to have their worst record since 1998, a year in which they went winless. They better thank their lucky stars the bottom three are so bad or it would be really ugly for them.
At the risk of sounding condescending I'm gonna say this. Admitting Galludet and Averett into the ODAC- for Football at the very least- has NOT been a good thing for us if we're trying to be an "up and coming" conference!! The starting of a Football program ( or REBIRTH shall I say) at Roanoke I think is an overwhelmingly POSITIVE THING FOR OUR CONFERENCE!! It does NONE OF US any good to beat the bottom 3 teams-and I'm adding Guilford in now because of how bad they are this year also-by the scores we have been. Pedro has even tried to be lenient- he empties his bench and gives all of his kids playing time, as Im sure some of the other coaches do too-but it does LITTLE for us Nationally as a conference and as individual schools to pad our schedules with teams like these! Indeed A LOT of our HIGH SCHOOL teams could beat these guys!!I realize we have trouble because of the rules of admittance for the ODAC and our options are limited  but as long as we have this type of competition we will continue to get overlooked Nationally AND RIGHTLY SO! I cant blame pollsters that rate us lower than teams with a much better SOS because ,unless we schedule out of conference teams that have a much better SOS than us with higher rankings BEFORE we start conference play ( and playing those teams early can be a disadvantage sometimes, especially with a younger team)they really have NOTHING to compare us to! This year it seems there is a TOP TIER- RMC, HSC,W&L, and Shenandoah, and an up and coming Roanoke program and a BOTTOM tier, with Bridgewater( at least this year) Guilford, Averett, and Galludet.I don't know what the answer is, but I do know that as long as we, as a conference, continue to do this we risk being overlooked Nationally as a conference and our ratings will continue to be low, which will hurt us when post season ratings ( and Home games in the playoffs for instance) come out! WE HAVE CREATED THIS MONSTER!!! Whether or not we can eventually fix it will be another matter!

Thats EXACTLY what it meant! Pedro never, that I saw in the interview, EVER said anything bad about the Maroons. As I saw it he was upset with the way HIS KIDS played. Now- whether or not it was us executing badly( which I think he thought) or it was Roanoke's just plain good play remains to be seen......but- like my coach always said in HS...."The eye in the sky DON'T LIE!" I'm sure when they reviewed the tape they figured that out but it was obvious to those of who follow RMC Football closely that Pedro was indeed PISSED and it was unusual for him to publicly make statements like this about his team unless hes really upset with them! When  this happens I wouldn't want to be those guys in that locker room this week because I'm quite sure he has made it known to them that hes not happy with their performance!
