It was an interesting day in Salem. RMC Football is not only the ODAC measuring stick, but also what a consistent Top 20 Program looks like. In several media interviews, Coach Stinespring compared Macon to some of the best VA Tech teams during his era as an assistant. Very solid in all 3 phases, tough to run against, and rarely giving up big plays. On the other side of the ball, they run it, and rarely turn the ball over. The Maroons are well aware that the ODAC has numerous solid Football Programs, so we have hills to climb besides Macon.
BUT we couldn't be more excited about where the Program is in its infancy. Coach has attracted an fantastic Staff, has recruited high character, talented, young men, and is executing a great plan to build something special.

Obviously, Pedro was not impressed by Roanoke.

You make good points and I hate this is going to run off some of the loyal fans, but certainly understand the feelings. Flo and paid streaming services seem to be taking over low D1 to DIII, I have heard talk of this for several years. I really feel for the parents. It will not effect me, I am an ODAC fanatic, watch multiple sports often, from numerous Colleges, especially Roanoke. I don't mind forking over the fee as this provides most of my sports entertainment, as D1 Basketball and NBA are damn near unwatchable except for a handful of teams until you get to March or playoffs.

The reinstatement of Football could not have gone better. Coach Stinespring put together a tremendous staff and recruited 61 young men (54) freshmen that have laid a solid foundation for the future. The first game packed Salem Stadium with 9,100 fans, and the second vs. Fork Union's post-grad team drew 5,500..... with our students on fall break. It is an understatement to say that the local Community has embraced the Program. Next year the competition will be much different, as Roanoke will have freshmen and sophomores against juniors and seniors in a very strong ODAC. But we are excited about the future and great fall Saturdays in Salem. We definitely have the right coaches and support staff in place. We are adding Football at Roanoke College, and hope to be full schedule in 2025.
Along with that is a Marching Band and Competitive Cheer Squad. We hope to do all of it well.
We know it is all about hiring the right people!
