I forgot about the hurricane game, so it probably was a 4-year agreement.  That is interesting that CNU would back out.  I wonder if it has anything to do with this report in the Daily Press:

I could be wrong, but I thought the Wesley agreement was for 2 years?  I'm sure 85 would have more knowledge on that but I'm interested in seeing who they will add in place of Wesley.

WFU34 - Averett's scoring drives: a LONG 6 yd drive for a FG, another LONG 33 yd drive for a TD.

CNU had only 1 drive that amounted to anything all day.
Averett also only had 1 drive that amounted to anything: an 81 yd drive for a TD.

CNU also missed a short (I believe 25 yd) FG and an extra point that would have tied the game at 10.

Can talk be about something else for a while? :)

I'm not sure anybody wants to talk about the games seeing as a week just went by without a mention on this board of how any of the games went.

Yeah the CNUALUM probably gave it away or the fact that I said I attended CNU might have showed I was a homer a bit.  ;)  But at the same time, I refuse to use it as an excuse.  My argument was simply to say that it is harder to get kids in.  But I'm a firm believer in playing with the hand you are dealt and to work around obstacles.  Every school in the nation has some obstacles in recruiting but the great schools can overcome them.  As somebody else pointed out, 3 other fall sports at CNU are ranked nationally in the top 10 (including the men's soccer team that is ranked #1), so it's really just time for the football team to man up.

Everybody agrees that CNU is attractive to prospective student-athletes, but the simple fact is that they cannot get kids into school.  When I applied to CNU (2003), with a 3.2 GPA and an 1130 SAT, I was accepted without the help of playing football getting me into school.  If I were to apply to CNU today, I would probably need the help of the football coaches to get into school.  That goes for a majority of former players.  My GPA/SAT score were in the higher percentile for football players when I played and now I would be in the lower-mid percentile.

To me, it seems like there are 2 separate arguments.  Narch, you seem to be arguing that the cost to attend CNU and the campus/facilities should attract more student-athletes. Whereas, finest is arguing that although it is more attractive to attend CNU, a majority of those kids cannot get in.

The big example I have on this is Teron Bush from NCWC.  He is a great RB and used to come to CNU to work-out over the summer with CNU players.  He is a local kid that wanted to go to CNU and was recruited heavily by CNU but couldn't get in.  I'm sure there are numerous cases like this that the CNU coaching staff has to deal with every year.

I said that last year and somebody got mad with it.

Narch is the man.

I would like to see where you wrote that last year.  Copy that quote for me and send it on.  I looked through all of last year and never saw it.

Narch, I fixed KIR's quote for you.

Pat, home page does look pretty great.

Not much to say, CNU lost to a team that was 1-11 (last year and two games this year) in its last 12 games.

An old teammate and I were talking about the season so far and all the points the defense has given up, and I looked up these stats...

CNU defense has giving up 34, 58 and 33 points so far for a total of 125 through 3 games.

In 2003, CNU gave up 88 points in the ENTIRE REGULAR SEASON (9 games total), which included playing Rowan, Bridgewater and Mcdaniel out of conference.

Hopefully a few players on CNU's defense follows this board and takes notice.

more importantly...i see a small slice of a cnu logo i've never seen before...and it actually looks really nice...anyone seen the whole thing?

I have seen it and it does look sharp.  I believe it is for the upcoming season, but I'm not sure when they plan on making it public.

I'm looking forward to the season and hopefully the reemergence of CNU to the top of the standings.  My preseason pick is NCWC, they seem to have the right attitude and always play hard.  Hopefully CNU has the right attitude and will play hard in every game.  If they do, then I can see them being on the top.  I hope last year was a wake-up call for the Captains and they bounce back and play hard in every game (last year I'm not sure that was the case for every game). I also agree with AUPOP that SU could be a dark horse and Allen C that Averett and Greensboro could be tougher than expected.

As for my brother, he was cleared to start running earlier this month and has maintained a regular running regimen ever since.  He is not yet 100%, but he is working hard to get back ahead of schedule.  Whether he plays QB or not is up to the coaching staff.  I know he would love to play safety, but he wants to win more than anything so he will do what's best for the team.

AUPOP, I never saw Legister play in HS, but from what I have seen in his time at CNU I do think he is a power back.  I was impressed with how he ran when given the opportunity the last 2 years and I think he will turn out to be a great back.  I also hope they feature Keith Gaines a little more.  He is an explosive player that would be a good 1-2 punch with Legister.

ProudFightingScot, I believe the Wesley contract might be a 2 and 2, but I'm not 100% sure.  I know there was discussion whether it should be a 2-year or 4-year contract.  I know that if it is a 1 and 1, CNU would probably try to fill the schedule with another elite opponent.

wesleydad,

That's him.  Thank you for your kind words.  I appreciate it and I'm sure he does as well.  He was planning on coming back to play next year, but the end of season meeting didn't go that well yesterday so we shall see.  I still hope to see him play for 1 more year.

bishop64,

We bleed CNU blue, but good luck to the Bishops in the playoffs.

I forgot to mention that this soft kid broke his wrist as a Freshmen in the last regular season game against Ferrum and played through it.  Then a week later he played in a playoff game with a cast on his wrist and had 4 tackles, 1.5 for loss, and broke up 2 passes.  Not bad for somebody who got a screw in his wrist the following week because of the damage he caused by playing through it.

My previous statement about my brother may be incorrect.  At the team meeting yesterday, Coack Kelchner (a man I respected for giving me an opportunity to play college football) lost all of my respect, my families respect, and the majority of this year's teams respect by calling my brother out.  He pretty much called him soft and that the team would be "better off without him."  He thought that Matt should have played through a torn MCL and PCL (during rehab he tore his LCL as well).

Anybody who watched the game when he got hurt (or any other game he played in) only saw a tough, hard-nosed football player that would do anything to help his team win.  He separated his shoulder and broke a bone in his hand during the game, but never took himself out for one play.  On the play he tore up his knee, he did not lay on the field but tried to walk back to the huddle to finish the game. A back-up QB took himself out of a game because he bruised his back (He also missed the next game with a bruised back).

This is a kid who was voted by his teammates as a team captain this past year and is probably the most respected player on the team.  How does Coach K repay him?  He doesn't acknowledge him as the captain at any point during the season and bashes him in front of this team.  He gets blamed for a 5-5 season, when just a year ago he was the ONLY QB in CNU history to lead an undefeated conference season.  I respect all the players who told Matt that Coach K was wrong.  Tunde Ogun, who played through a knee injury this year and is an All-American RB, told Matt that he was the toughest football player he has ever played with at any level.

If Coach K doesn't appreciate the effort that Matt has contributed to CNU, then it's a slap in my face and every other player that has taken the field at CNU.  I'm astonished that some other coaches did not step up on Matt's behalf and if that is truly how the coaching staff feels then maybe they are "better off without him."

Congrats to NCWC and good luck this weekend.  I'm sure their head coach respects every player on his team and that trust in one another is what has earned that team a trip to the playoffs.  It is something that CNU used to have, and when it's lost you have to look at the top of the organization to find out what went wrong.

is matt long returning for one more year or is he choosing to leave after normal graduation for him?

He will be returning and graduate next fall.  It remains to be seen what position he will play next year.

54,

14-7 is a win in my book.

Well in that case, congrats on the win.

I almost forgot to put my thanks in to the Vets on this board.  Thanks to my dad, all of my CNU Captains' teammates who have served and continue to serve, and everybody on this board who has served.  Thanks to all USA South alum who served.  There was a great article a few weeks back on a Greensboro RB who served.  Your service was/is greatly appreciated and may God bless.  Thank you all and Happy Veteran's Day.
