Wartburg loses to Tufts 63 to 50.  Congratulations on a strange and wonderful season.

I am looking at the tournament brackets.  Can anyone splain to me why NCAA has the final four teams come in to Columbus, Ohio, play one game and then wait two weeks for the championship game on Monday April 4, 2016 to be played in Indianapolis.  Game on National television?  Drunken bracket master?

Kinda fell asleep.  Didn't realize Wartburg women are in the final four.  Congrats and keep it going.

They play Tufts Sat. March 19 @4:00 pm it will be streamed.

GOOD LUCK!

Father and daughter on the town. U.D basketball game, Dog House Lounge and then across the parking lot to Trigger Happy Tattoo for a for dad to get a permanent memento of the occasion.  PRICELESS.

If the 4'11" daughter has dad's tenacity and blazing speed she will do well.

Doolittle it goes fast so enjoy it (cliché).  At the alumni game yesterday my daughter and the players one year younger were on the old team.

After the game A.D. gave an update on the new 14 million dollar athletic recreation center (unfortunately I forgot my check book).  It sounds like Eby will be a memory and that they will build a competition gym.  When I mentioned to the parents at my table that I hoped the new gym isn't a sterile, uncomfortable abomination like Wartburg's gym, they all agreed.

Going to the Coe alumni game today.

Coe plays BV if Coe wins it gets in the tournament.  If Coe loses and D.U. lose, Coe gets in.  Coe loses and D.U. wins, U.D. gets in on tie breaker (beat Coe twice during regular season).

Coe (4-9) has the tougher opponent with in B.V. (8-5).

D.U. (3-10) plays Central (1-12) which appears to be the easier opponent  except Centrals one win is against D.U.

Good luck to all involved and stay healthy.

Coe wins first game of the year against Cornell 70 to 59. Plays Mount Mercy Tuesday this week.  Nice having two opponents within 10 miles.

The girls varsity basketball coach has a room down the hall from me lost two 6ft 3in girls to volleyball.  One was a starter last year as a freshman and the other would have been a freshman this year.

In Iowa City the club teams are very popular.  The Rockets have players driving 60 to 90 miles to attend practices.  There is another club called top dog ( a West High feeder) and I believe one more club in town. (these are multiple age group teams with several teams in each age group)

The draw is the travel to tournaments in KC, Twin Cities, Chicago, etc. and then the national tournament.  When my daughter was playing she/or we chose a limited travel team that only played games in Iowa and the Illinois side of the quad cities.

The dad of one of the girls (6'3") on my daughters high schools volleyball team said his daughter didn't like the contact which kind of ruled out basketball.

On page 48 Oct. 27, 2010 I went into a rant on age group coaches.  I still think to many age group coaches screw up tall girls by expecting too much of them too early.  This may be another reason they go to volleyball.

Too much rambling I'm out of here.

Call me old fashion I would have preferred Eby being the game venue.  As I have stated before I hope the new facility is more comfortable than that abomination at Wartburg.

I wish my money had funded more than just plaques under trees memorializing other alums.  Maybe someday.  Plus with my waist line, it would be more likely they would ask me to fund a concession stand  ;)

The only thing I ever funded was a massive expansion of my waistline.  Unfortunately I am still giving to the cause.

Hey Bird Dog, I got you some pics of the expansion and new floor.

Looks great.  Any truth to the rumor that you funded the expansion?

Kayla Waskow named assistant coach at Coe.  She graduated in 2013 with 14 school records and top 5 in 29 others.  If you go to Coe's women's basketball page and click on "additional links"  you can access the schools basketball records which have not been updated since 2013.

I never did like week day games.  Any comments pro or con?  Does the Midwest Conference use Fri/Sat games?  Which leagues do? I assume there is a travel partner, which would be hard in a nine team league.  Motels for games to BV and NWU and if BV and NWU are travel partners they would have motel bills every away weekend.  Other schools would need motels in trip to BV and NWU.

Travel Partners?
B.V./ N.W.U.

Central/Simpson

Wartburg/  Luther

D.U./Loras

Coe/bring back Cornell? add another team.

Is there  a transition period from NAIA to DIII?  My faulty memory thinks NWU can't compete in tournaments for several years until scholarship players are gone.

I'm tired of speculating I'm sure the conference has all the details worked out.

I understand the conference wanted more of a western presence. And I appreciate Nebraska Wesleyan was on an island as a d3 school in Nebraska. I also get that adding a team gives the conference insurance to keeping enough teams to keep auto qual to the post season. But this really seems like a stretch to me. I won't road trip there. I can't imagine they will develop rivalries in the IIAC like they currently have. I certainly don't want the name of our conference to change. There is too much history with our conference for that IMO

Wesleyan is/was playing in an NAIA league with Briar Cliff, Dordt, and Morningside.

KCRG reports on news at six that Nebraska Wesleyan is joining IIAC.  From Cedar Rapids to Lincoln, Neb. is 320 miles, a 5 hour road trip.  C.R. to Storm Lake 213 miles 3 hrs. and 20 min.

This doesn't make sense to me.

?Is this the start of a western division of IIAC?  ?Or, is it giving BV a (short) 180 mile 3hr. 11min.  road trip?  BV's road trips to Simpson and Central are a little longer but take a little less time than going to Lincoln.

Congrats IIAC, U.D, Luther, and Wartburg.  Noticed Iowa State had the seventh highest attendance at 206,000.  U of Iowa had seventh highest increase in home attendance with an increase of 900 more per game.

I always thought U. D. the wall was a little close on the ends hopefully they will gain a few more feet.  Coe reconfigured Eby in 2007-8 or so.  They put in new bleachers, but put an aisle right under the basket with a step up.  Seems that is dangerous sliding into the sharp edged step.  Aisle should have been put on the ends.

Last time I was at the concession at U. Dubuque the concession worker (#1)  says what can I get you.  I said could the concession worker (#2) that just walked help me instead.  The young man (#1) says why?  I said I was in the restroom and that young man (#2) was in there and I know he washed his hand.  Everyone laughed and concession worker #2 said good call I wouldn't trust these guys hygiene either.
