Everyone is going to look at HSCs points totals and think it's all offense, but the defense limited the Bishops to 12 first quarter plays while the offense did what an HSC offense usually does. Travis Lane and Kyle Vance were on fire.

Yes, HS caught them at the right time, they were on the field of play.

As to what happened to HSC last season, they lost two relatively close games at home. One to Catholic and one to RMC. Against RMC, they had two TDs called back for penalties, and in both games they were playing with a very injured Josh Simpson (turf toe from about game five on). Without the running game, HSC had a harder time converting first downs etc. Too bad, because Simp would likely have become the school's all-time leading rusher, instead of finishing second.

Alabama get away!
HSC was fortunate to get out of Montgomery with a win. The Hawks are very tough and showed it by staying close enough to cause some palpitations. Even up by 17, many Tiger fans were thinking about the Bridgewater game.
Sorry about rumor control concerning Ricca, consider the comment dropped and my apologies to a fine quarterback and person.
Any chance for HSC to reach the playoffs requires a solid game against Macon. Macon is a challenge and has been playing well for the past two seasons. Thornton is tearing up the turf, and that will be a challenge.

No question about Huntingdon being a challenge, but they have not had the toughest of schedules. Still, it takes some doing to post 76 points.
Good luck to Vogelbach, I hope he finds his TD form again, and it looks like BC is back on track after a shaky start to the season.
Only way for HSC now is to win out. Win out and a lot of things can happen even if the ODAC championship doesn't fall out of the sky.

No matter how things break, I expect the best thing for HSC is to win out. It's tougher when you don't control your own destiny.

Actually, Ryan Tipps of D3 Football suggested a 9-1 Tigers might make Pool C. In the past, the ODAC has not been very respected. Yes, I think the best bet for HSC is to win out, and hope to get some help. Anyone heard anything about Ricca having to sit out a game--maybe against E&H?

It looked to me like Simpson aggravated his toe injury near the end of the Catholic game. But an extra week off ought to help that some. Ultimately, there are only two guaranteed games left. My guess is Simpson will play if he is able to play.
I agree that the Tigers can't take any chances and must win out to secure any chance at a pool c bid, which, if CUA doesn't stumble in the next three weeks, may be the only way to the post season for the Tigers. Still, CUA has three tough opponents all of whom need to knock them off to have even the most remote shot at winning the ODAC. Only time will tell.

First, I apologize for my absence after such a critical game.
Second, Keith Ricca is an awesome quarterback.
Third, I have never seen the Tigers so flat on both side of the ball. One or the other, yes, but never both sides on the same day.
No question Catholic game-planned HSC well and executed to perfection. Especially in the first half. I agree with the immaculate reception being the back breaker, but the pick inside the 10 on a Sedlar pass to Gillette, and the subsequent two, yes two, roughing the kicker calls also played a big part in the result. Taking nothing away from Catholic, they seemed to know what the Tigers were doing even before the Tigers did. And, they missed at least two INTs that the defender broke on and had slip out of his fingers.
Grats to CUA; now, the Tigers have to get a little help from either Bridgewater, E&H, or Guilford. All good teams that can be tough to beat. In addition, the Tigers have to knock off Macon, and a win against Huntingdon, while not critical, can still help.

October 23, 2008, 09:20:53 PMQuoteThe point I was trying to make was that Sitterson might be the best player in the league.
You've got to be kidding. Simpson is playing at about 80 percent right now, and still managed to hit pay dirt three times. In the first game of the season, he set the ODAC record for Rushing Touchdowns, and if not for missing three games due to injury, would be right on track to being the Tigers All Time Leading rusher. That mark still may fall, if Simpson can get his form back.
Satterson is a good RB, no doubt. But Simpson already has stuff in the book, and you can't leave out Zak Thornton. Satterson is good, but he definitely is not the best player in the ODAC.
Also, don't you think that forcing turnovers is part of the job of a good defense, or is it just to sit out on the field and post three-and-outs? I wonder why the NFL pays so much attention to turnovers and turnover ratios. The Tiger's TO ratio has been pretty bad, actually, and it is a tribute to the defense that they have been able to stay in some games that otherwise they would not have been in.
And, in case you need a little more reproving (go look up the word), no one ever said that HSC wasn't built on offense. The argument, for what it's worth, is that the D has taken strides this year. It's the first time in four years that they have run the same defense, and the difference with the players knowing the scheme has been impressive.
Not to take anything away from the Gens. HSC knew they would be a tough opponent, and expected a tough game. It didn't help the cause to gift them 9 points in the first quarter. The only thing missing was the bow, and that was available to anyone who could have made it into the end zone.

to Dooberson:
I don't know what game you were talking about between HSC and W&L, but if you think the defense was playing poorly in the first half, you weren't at the game and didn't bother to look at the stat sheet. The Tigers gave W&L three short field possessions in the first quarter and held them to 9 points. W&L had only two real drives all day, at the end of the half and the start of the second half. During the first half, there was a huge turnover problem as HSC threw three picks. In the second half, D-end Zack Sanchez forced three fumbles and the defense stepped up to shut down the Generals over the last 25 minutes or so. Regarding injuries, to Sitterson and others, such is football. HSC played three games without Simpson and still managed to win.
Catholic poses a challenge. We'll see how that goes Saturday.

You're probably right about low scoring; I've noticed that lately Marty hates to score and has told Cory not to throw anymore long passes. Yes, hates to score about as much as he loves officials, and how often does he take the time to commend them for a job well done even during the game.
JK
The D is playing well. At Bridgewater, the line judge missed a perfectly good INT that would have killed the fourth quarter raid and made a big difference in the outcome.
