Coach Speckman mentioned in another article on the Niners use of the fly sweep.  Fly on the wall: Harbaugh learned from prep coach

A little notoriety for Coach Speckman!

"49ers use plays from offense rarely seen in pros"

The fly sweep was also mentioned during last Sunday's 49ers/Cardinals game. I too immediately thought of Willamette.   8-)

I caught that as well! 8-)

Is bad publicity better than no publicity?

http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20111208/SPORTS08/112080317/Wesley-seeks-end-all-purple-final

Wait...  isn't any publicity good publicity?

Nate Dixon might disagree...

Touchdown celebration penalty costs Mass. team a state title
By Cameron Smith

When he raised his fist on his way to the end zone, Boston (Mass.) Cathedral High quarterback Matt Owens thought he was celebrating the score that would hand his school a surprising Super Bowl title. Instead, he was doing the one thing that could keep them from it: Earning a penalty on a play where there was nothing but green turf between himself and the end zone.

"The state uses NCAA rules and regulations for its football competitions, and The College Football Officiating guidelines state the following in regards to unsportsmanlike conduct on a play that results in a touchdown: If the ball is alive when the player makes a taunting gesture, then the penalty is enforced at the spot of the foul - and the key outcome: no touchdown."

Apparently this is an NCAA rule, but I have never seen it enforced. Anyone care to comment?

What harm does such "celebration" do? Will the feelings of players on the opposing team -- or their fans -- be hurt? Will they be "offended?" If you don't want to see such "celebration" then stop the other team from scoring!

This fist raising is not even "celebrating" in my book.  Ridiculous...

Get over it!

OTOH, I'm a proponent of "act like you've been there before" when scoring a TD, and I agree with the fining of Bills' Steve Johnson for mocking Plaxico Burress shooting himself in the leg as a gesture of celebration.

Bracket is going to make for some very exciting games, IMHO.  It will be interesting to see how things play out! Stay tuned!

Harsh 2-OT loss for the Bearcats on Saturday. In hindsight, Willamette should have gone for a 2-point conversion at the end of their first OT possession, knowing what they needed to win at that point, and that they would have the ball first in the 2nd OT with a tying PAT.
