Quote from: ChickenHoops on November 03, 2025, 04:41:51 PMHow much academic or NIL money is there in the CCIW?  The UAA?

Grad transfers make the question more applicable, e.g. Chicago and IWU.

Not sure how much NIL money there is within the entire CCIW, especially considering we are talking D3 here, plus the fact schools certainly aren't going to be revealing any details about such assets. However, I think it's a pretty safe bet that Wheaton and Wesleyan lead the way. In fact, a pertinent question with regard to this subject might be is Wheaton among the D3 leaders in this area.

I challenge that "safe bet" of yours. I'd be very surprised if Wheaton is among the CCIW's NIL leaders, let alone all of D3. It's very much not in keeping with how Wheaton operates.

Wouldn't surprise me, however, if Illinois Wesleyan is at the top of the league in NIL funds, because it's an institution that has a lot of close ties to its local business community, in particular the two major insurance corporations that are based in Bloomington. I also wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the school you support is right up there in NIL money as well, although, as you said, NIL money for D3 student-athletes is peanuts compared to what the D1s are raking in -- and if North Central is indeed topping the league (or close to it) in terms of NIL dough, methinks it's mostly going to the young gentlemen who wear helmets and pads.

While IWU allows athletes to earn NIL money from 3rd parties per NCAA rules, the school itself does not pay nor participate in this transaction nor can the payment be contingent on enrollment or participation..

Quote from: Gregory Sager on January 13, 2025, 10:20:15 PMSo let me see if I've got this turn of the carousel correct:

* Millikin hires a new head coach;
* Millikin's new head coach swipes Illinois Wesleyan's defensive coordinator and tabs him to be the new DC for the Big Blue;
* Elmhurst's head coach resigns (jump-or-be-pushed is my guess) and is hired as Illinois Wesleyan's defensive coordinator to replace the guy whose moving van just headed south on US 51 to Decatur; and
* Elmhurst now has to hire what will be its seventh head coach in 23 years.

Interesting off-season thus far.

No jumping or pushing.  He's an IWU alum, has worked as the DC with the new coach before and simply loves the school.  New coaching era allows him the opportunity to return home.

Mike Murray leaving Elmhurst to return to IWU as DC.

Quote from: SpartanHouse4 on January 02, 2025, 01:45:01 PMRather surprising hire IMO. I thought they would do better.

Great college QB, very successful run as OC here, then built a startup football program into a consistent top-25 team.  What's so surprising and underwhelming?  Who were all these better coaches that were ignored?

Welcome back to IWU Coach Jared Williamson.

No hints?  High school guy? College guy? IWU Alumni?

I'll just say that everyone's #1 choice was unfortunately not available due to the structure of the Illinois retirement system.

Does the "get rid of Norm" cycle begin in six days?

I can't see any way where that would ever be anyone's decision other than Norm himself.  I believe this is year 35 or 36 for him.  I'm not sure anyone has a read on what number he has in his head.  My pipedream was always him retiring early enough to still make the job attractive enough for Rob Zvonar to want it.  But between Rob's age and what I'm sure is a salary IWU wouldn't be able to match at this point, I figure that ship has sailed.   By all indications Norm remains very healthy (he was always an early A.M. Shirk fitness hound) so I could see him wanting to continue through 40 years.

Small sample size overreaction after 1 half of IWU-Central, IWU looks like a 2-3 win team this season.  Poor interior play on both sides of the ball.

Congrats to another former Titan Mike Murray as the new head football coach at Elmhurst University.

Minor news relative to the big game this week, but IWU OC Reed Hoskins has been named Head Coach at Simpson College.

Wow. That's a bit of a surprise. Does Norm get to leave on his own terms when he's ready?

Was Hoskins regarded as Norm's heir apparent? I'm less in-the-know about CCIW football coaches than I am about CCIW basketball coaches.

I'm not aware that Norm has given any indication he is close to calling it a career.
