Looks like we have a Mike Avery situation all over again.  Brockport's Kris Gentzke is headed to Cortland St. to play for the Red Dragons next year.  Good move Kris, can't blame you for wanting a shot at playing for a national championship.  Best of luck!

How in the world could Coach Beach at Brockport let Kris Gentzke just walk out the door, let alone to another school within the conference? Kris looked to be the main run producer/arm coming back on that team. What is going on at Brockport, that place looks to be crumbling to ruins.

Has a team in this conference looked more night and day then Brockport? Kinda a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde approach over there in Western NY. When it  comes to a consitency of play whose responsibility is that? The Coaches or the Players? In my mind its gotta be on the Head Coach.

A close second on this might be Oneonta, this team looked like it might roll right through conference play, two of the better arms in the conference and a nice little supporting bullpen cast around them. Now it looks like they might be on the outside looking in.

Very strange baseball year, big weekend though and the comes tournament time...How quickly one could forget about a poor regular season with a dominating performance in the conference tournament.

alot has been made on the board about Joe Brown and his coaching ability. What about the rest of the conference? What are the coaching capabilites of Palisin, Doorey, Paino, Griffiths, Beach and Ferchen?

kind of a suspect move for Oneonta, why wouldn;t you pitch your top guys in conference games?

cortland has a nice win yesterday, maybe this will get them back on the right track, any word why brown would remove two of his better players after only 3 innings of work?

I gotta agree with c-state, that seems like awfully wishful thinking that Brockport sweeps out the rest of the way in conference. It seems to me like this team couldnt "pitch" a tent. There pitching has been as close to terrible as possible. They are gonna have to find someone to stand toe to toe with carlson (sp) and o'leary, i dont know if they have anyone with the capabilities to do so.

Who would have though the road to the NY regionals might run through somewhere other than Wallace Field?

double play dave,
could not disagree with you more. I think that Oneonta is the best team in the SUNYAC's, i know they slipped up yesterday a bit but i think  a sweep of Cortland is gonna prove my point.

Pitching is the key to winning the conference tournament, of the teams, i only really see 2 teams having enough pitching to make it to day 3. Oneonta and Cortland. Plattsburgh has one pitcher, in O'leary as Kelley has disappointed. Brockport has 1 solid dependable arm in Shannon, who from the looks of it pitcher extremely well against Cortland. Fredonia has Carlson who is having a great years so far.  how do these teams expect to make it championship Sunday of the tournament with one arm a piece?

Now a question posed to the board: Now assuming that the boxscores from yesterdays Brockport and Cortland games were correct, what was Joe Brown doing using his best reliever in a 13 run bal game? Is he that arrogant and have that much hatred for Brockport that he wanted to rub it in there face that bad? This move might have potentially cost him the second game, having to bring 2 starters out of the pen in a close game. My guess, Brown still can;t get the bitter taste out of his mouth after being embarrassed on his homefield in the 2004 SUNYAC tournament.

ANy of the Cortland guys out there have any insight? (Scuba, Starvin, bball)

dave,

were you at the games in Oneonta on sunday? From the looks of the boxscores it seems as though juedes was tested. Looks like Brockport had runners on almost every inning, several times in scoring position.

I will say this aboutBrockport, they did choose to play a hell of a difficult schedule in AZ. I commend the coaching staff there for not backing down and filing the schedule with some tough competition. It looks as though many of the other ocnference teams chose to cupcake up there early schedules. With a fairly young team in Brockport, it might have been a solid idea for them to do the same.

I realize I have come across as a Brokport basher and that has not been my intention. As someone who has been around the Cortland program over the past decade or so, I am jut getting tired of hearing "haters" bash Joe Brown and his program. The guy really has done nothing wrong, except dominate the NEw York Region and put an otherwise unknown conferencce on the map.

This looks to be Coach Browns weakest team in memory. IT looks like they could be exposed.

I think Cortland might just win this conference by default. Brockport seems to be having trouble pitching and fielding the ball, one can;t really tell how Oneonta is, as they havent really played anyone worth anything yet. Not to mention the "other" red dragons look pretty young. These three perennial SUNYAC all good be there in the end to duke it out for a SUNYAC slugfest.

I'd be lying if I said I would like to see someone other than cortland win it this yr, but I guess giving them a challenge to make them a little more battle tested for the Regionals wouldnt be such a bad thing.

If brockport was looking to answer back to any statement I made yesterday they certainly failed. After giving up two touchdowns and 2 extra point to WNEC, its safe rto say that they might be out of it for this year. I guess it might be to early to say that, with conference play starting next weekend, but I just dont see how they can win giving uop that many runs. Too bad, as a fan i am getting sick of seeing that same teams represented each yr. coach beach and his staff need to get a clue with what they are doing defensively.

Its a shame the SUNYAc's can't be similar to the NJAC where there is 5, 6 teams fighting it out each year.

All we have learned from some early season games is that Corland and Oneonta are the only teams worth anything in the SUNYAC's. Once again Coach Brown and Coach Ferchen have estbalished teams tha are going to be there in the end. The way I look at it, the battle for 3rd and 4th is pointless. Brockport looks awful, hig expecations for this team in Western NY aand tthey have come know where close to them. Tough for those guys to do anything when they are giving up dou ble digits everyday on the field. Plattsburgh looks to be the thrid team and hopefully they can be, as to make sure the SUNYAC's are not a two man race all year.

Early season predictions:
Look for Joe Brown to wrap up coach of the year, while JAckson and Tone take care of the other major awards.

Good luck to all this season
