hello all, i havent been on the board since last year. but its almost time for post season play so i thought i would make an appearance. first off id like to send my congrats to cortland on another dominating year. oneonta has made a strong comeback and will once again be in the sunyac tournament. brockport and plattsburg should also make the tournament unless something drastic happens. i found it very entertaining that people actually believed that fredonia or new paltz would creep in this year. fredonia was a fluke team last year with 1 good pitcher and oneonta had a down year last year. this year everything is back the way it should be. the usual 4 teams in and the bottom 3 getting about 3 or 4 wins in conference play. no doubt new paltz is much improved but are still far from making a conference tournament anytime soon. and fredonia is fredonia what more do i need to say. and oswego, you might as well call them the new sunyit  of the conference. now its just a matter of figuring out the seedings. can someone actually take down cortland this year? i dont think so but heres my theory of how it could be done. if you match up with cortland in the 1st round you have to throw your number 1 guy. if you arent you should throw your number 2 or 3 guy in the 1st round and hope you can out hit the other team. save your number 1 for cortland and if you beat them then you have a reliable number 2 or 3 left with some help from the pen maybe. too many times teams throw their number 1 in the 1st round not against cortland and then either lose or get crushed in the next round by cortland with their number 2. then they have to waste their 3 in the losers bracket then be left with an unreliable 4 or 5 starter. most teams have maybe 2 or 3 starters they can count on. use them wisely. basically you have to hope to have cortland have to beat you twice on the last day or have someone else beat them for you. no one except the '04 brockport team has been able to beat cortland twice in the same tourney. hard to do. this is just my opinion, either way i cant wait for the tournament 2 weeks away.

If there was a year to steal one from Cortland it was this year. But no one could get it done. Maybe if Oneonta was in they would have given Cortland a tough time, or if they had to face Carlson or Shannon things could have been different in the tourney. Hats off to Cortland. They just continue to get it done year after year. I am more impressed this year than any other year. They weren't guaranteed a title like always. They had to work for this one and they got it done. Congrats. Depending on what teams are in the regional Cortland might have a tough time returning to the World Series, but I have a feeling they will find a way to get it done.

We are only 2 days from the first pitch of the tourney. I can't wait for this years tourney to start. Who is going to win this year? You have to favor Cortland as always because of the pitching staff they have. But you can't count out a team like Fredonia or Brockport. Plattsburgh could get its first sunyac win this year if they out slug a team. It will be interesting how this goes. Does anyone think Cortland will get a bid if they do not win the sunyac?

Any guesses as to what the pitching matchups will be the first day? I think it will be Carlson vs. Shannon and Ratliff vs. Oleary. Anyone think differently?

Smithers I couldnt agree with you more on Brockport. I am on record for saying they would host. Bad call. I am not 100% they will get in anymore. Oneonta may steal that one right away from them. If Shannon loses this weekend the Eagles could be sitting at home next weekend. Smithers I am with you about the coaching staff. Coach Beach is starting to look inexperienced more and more as the season goes. Coach Ferchen is in the same boat in my opinion. He had a great chance of making a run at this one, but now he is fighting to get in because of terrible pitching decisions last weekend. Should've taken 2 almost guaranteed wins with Juedes and Filak against Oswego. I guess Filak got his feet wet though. If Oneonta gets in he will have to beat the real Red Dragons of the conference. It will be an interesting weekend. Alot of questions will be answered around 7 or 8 o'clock tomorrow.

Plattsburgh and Brockport have very slim chances. I'm not exactly sure how Plattsburgh is but Brockport can host with:

Platt sweeps Cortland and gets swept by Oswego
Brockport sweeps Fredonia

This would make Brockport 8-4, Cortland 8-4, Fredonia 7-5 and whoever at the 4. Brockport hosts because they split with Cortland but swept Fredonia and Cortland split with Fredonia

Well looks like next weekend is going to be a wild weekend. Plattsburgh has no shot of beating Cortland so they should just pitch their best, whoever that is at this point, against Oswego. Plattsburgh's staff is very questionable. They might as well give up 60 runs to Cortland and throw everyone at Oswego just to get in. Oneonta needs to take care of business since they dropped one to Oswego. Better throw Juedes and Filak against New Paltz. Brockport needs one game to get in. Is there any question who they should pitch in that game, their one and only guy Shannon. Fredonia, how did they get in. I am still in aw on this one. Brockport needs a split and then they will face Fredonia in the first round of the tourney in the 2 vs. 3 matchup. Oneonta needs too much to happen, I think that they will sweep but it wont be enough. As long as Plattsburgh just throws away the Cortland games and sweeps Oswego Plattsburgh is in. So as Dave said

1. Cortland
2. Fredonia
3. Brockport
4. Plattsburgh

we will see though, anything can happen in the sunyac.

Hahaha. Yea I guess I didnt call that one too well for Brockport. The truth of the matter is is that Brockport doesnt have a bullpen. They needed Gentzke to go all 9 innings to win that game. His line didnt look too good today either though. 6 runs in the 9th doesnt help either. Plattsburgh looks like they have some timely hitting when they need it. Cortland takes 2 from Oneonta today which I can say I'm not surprised. I know I have been saying they arent the same team but Cortland looked like Cortland today. It will be interesting to see how things shape up tomorrow. After tomorrow I'm sure there will be plenty of scenarios for a bunch of teams for possible playoff berths. Who knows, the tourney could be in Plattsburgh this year. Oneonta might not even get in. You have to love this time of year

It was great to see my hometown team Ithaca take down the Red Dragons pitching by committee. I know everyone is on the bandwagon about Cortland not being the same team as always, myself leading the way, but they are still a dangerous team. After looking more at the pitching depth of these teams it is time for me to stop kidding myself. Cortland has the arms, as much as I hate to say it they do. Oneonta is right there with a couple of guys that they can ride out through the tourney. Brockport I believe can still host but they will struggle if they fall into the losers bracket. Locke has not been good this year and Joy finally got a win against a sub par RIT team but who else do they have? I cant wait to see how everything plays out this weekend. If Cortland plays well then it will be the same old story as it is every year, Cortland hosting.

Just a response to cstate's earlier post, I do think Brockport can sweep both weekends just based on having their 1 and 2 for both weekends. If they were playing back to back days it would be a different story. Also I went to the Cortland Fisher game and it wasn't the best game played by Cortland. In fact it was pretty sloppy for a while. This just emphasizes the point that Cortland is not as strong as it has been in past years. The staff isnt what it once was with shut down pitchers of past teams. They have one shut down guy, who CAN be beat with a patient hitting team. Tone can get very wild at times but bad hitting teams make him look untouchable. Oneonta doesnt look like they are planning to beat Cortland this weekend throwing Juedes today. Mistake in my opinion. If they throw Filak one game they still might have a shot at a split which will ruin any hosting shot. Again I think it is up for grabs this year, anything can happen once the tourney rolls around.

That is well said. But we will see when the tourney does come around, alot of things can happen till then. We can all say what we want about these teams but thats why they play the game.

Just from seeing Oneonta for a few years now you can see patterns from the coach. I definetly think that he will pitch Juedes and Filak against Cortland. I think that he wants those games more than any other games. Oneonta still has a chance to host if they can take 2 from Cortland. I think that Cortland, Oneonta and Brockport have to play for hosting. I think they will have enough to get in like always so they should all be trying to host the tournament. If there was a year to take hosting privileges away from Cortland this is the year. Like Dave said Plattsburgh has a tough road and will be playing just to get in as will Fredonia. The other 3 should be trying to host.

I do not believe it is wishful thinking that Brockport can sweep the rest of the way because they will have Shannon and Gentzke both weekends if the coach decides to do so which I dont see why he wouldnt. Cortland is not the same Cortland and their lineup is vulnerable to good pitching as we have seen so far this year. Its up for grabs right now, the next two weekends are big. I just dont see Brockport losing at home against either Plattsburgh or Fredonia. Just my thoughts

Hello everyone, I am new to the board but have followed the sunyac for several years now. Cortland, as far as I have been watching, has been the most dominant. This year is a little different. There is no doubt that when Tone is pitching Cortland is pretty much guaranteed a victory. However this is how I see the rest of the season going:

Brockport sweeps Plattsburgh
Cortland splits with Oneonta
Plattsburgh sweeps Fredonia
Oneonta sweeps Oswego
Cortland sweeps New Paltz
Cortland splits with Plattsburgh
Brockport sweeps Fredonia
Oneonta sweeps New Paltz
Plattsburgh sweeps Oswego

How it all works out is Brockport is 9-3, Cortland Oneonta Plattsburgh are 8-4.
Brockport will host, Oneonta is the 2 seed, Cortland is the 3, Plattsburgh is the 4. Fredonia has had a good year thus far but will come back down to earth in the next few weeks. Fredonia will start getting treated like Fredonia and finish 5-7. Carlson will get beat and beat bad by either Brockport or Plattsburghs offense. New Paltz will finish with a typical 3-9 season and Oswego will finish 1-11. Once the tourney rolls around its anyones game. You still have to like Cortland with the pitching that they have. Oneonta has Filak and Juedes but they will not be enough to make it through. Plattsburgh will have another 2 and out in the tourney because of the lack of a shut down pitcher. As far as Brockport goes, they have good hitting at times but will need to step it up against better pitching which they have struggled with this season. They will also need more than Shannon and Gentzke to get through the tourney. Both have been solid but they will need someone else from that staff to be able to pitch against Cortland or Oneonta.
