Quote from: rmc1982 on December 06, 2025, 06:39:35 PMSEATFILLER- Your Maroons played well today and had us on the ropes!! Nice hard nosed man to man defense on us kept us off balance all day and made us work for everything we got! Kudos to your boys for a good game we very easily could have lost! We were fortunate enough to sink our FT at the end! Now we go on exam break and then on to Nashville for a tournament just before Christmas and then back in the COTU for our tournament before wading into the meat of the grueling ODAC gauntlet in January! All in all we're better off than many thought we'd be!! A lot of the credit goes to Coach Merkel and his staff for keeping our young men on an even keel through this tough early schedule!! 🐝🐝🐝GO JACKETS!!🐝🐝🐝

RC played good just not good enough. I'm proud of them but like Ric Flair use to say "In order to be the man, you have to beat the man" and Roanoke has not beaten RMC in a long time.

In other news RC on Friday plays the University of Redlands who look on paper to be a really good team. In all of their wins the least amount they scored was 93. In their one loss they only scored 63. RC the day after plays Wilson College who's 3-7 record isn't impressive but they've lost 3 games by 5 or fewer points so they won't be a walk through game.

Quote from: rmc1982 on December 03, 2025, 09:46:23 PMWow!! Didn't see that coming!! Jackets rolling on all cylinders and  WAX the Tigers by 35 and force 27 turnovers!! I expected a better game from HSC but we had a lot to do with that tonite!! Jackets ROLL!! 85-50!!🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 I think by the time we meet again the Tigers will be more battle hardened! They looked a little complacent and unaccustomed to the physical play tonight.... That will change.... I expect them to improve with time and experience. We have Roanoke coming in Saturday.... We don't have time to sit on our laurels.... Let's keep ROLLING JACKETS!!🐝🐝🐝🐝

Hooray Roanoke gets to go against the RMC juggernaut who will be at home on Saturday...always fun...for RMC.  In other news Roanoke got a big win against Guilford yesterday. The game was close with Guilford taking the early lead and RC winning at half by 9.  RC would pull away in the second half but the game was way closer than its finish at 98-79.

Next up Noke gets the always fun RMC team that we've had little to no success with in the past decade.  Hopefully Roanoke comes to play or it could get ugly. Coach Nunley always does a good job game planning so we should at least give them a fight.

Roanoke went 1-1 on the weekend.

Yesterday they lost to #13 Wesleyan University.  I've been complaining about RC starting slow in the 1st half and in a complete turnaround RC started off well and even got up 22 in the 1st half. Wesleyan missed some shots I knew would most likely drop in the 2nd half and they did. Wesleyan showed no quit and eventually tied the game at 71 with a minute left. RC did a good job of extending the game but Wesleyan was money at the free throw line and won 84-79.

Today RC played against the host team, Salisbury University. The score was close at first but a big run towards the end of the 1st half would have RC up 53-27.  RC would control the 2nd half and the final score would be 79-63.

RC has a tough test at Guilford but not until next Wednesday (Dec 3rd).

Quote from: Seatfiller on November 14, 2025, 10:20:11 PMRoanoke started their season last Tuesday with a beat down against a developing Christendom team 90-38.  That game didn't really tell me much about us except we can beat teams that most likely won't have a good season.

Today Roanoke played Southern Virginia University and won 86-56.  First half we only had a 9 point lead but the defense got way better in the second half.  Hard to judge this team right now as we haven't played anyone really that good. That might change tomorrow as we go against a Marymount team who's currently beating Guilford 82-68 with 40 seconds left at Roanoke college.

I watched a good bit of this game. The announcers said Roanoke had won all six previous meetings vs SVU by an average of 28 points and never allowed SVU to score more than 60 points. With five and a half minutes left in the first half and SVU leading 31-24 it sure looked like that would change. Then Roanoke went to another gear, scored 18 unanswered points and led 42-33 at halftime. They kept it up in the second half and kept the scoring margin and under 60 streak in tact. Final was 86-56.

Averett downs Greensboro in a back and forth game 82-73. W&L starts off strong, downing Salisbury 88-63. Guilford loses to Marymount 84-68.

Thanks for the info, I was only keeping up with it using live stats. Yesterday Roanoke got a good win against Marymount 73-54.  It was a low scoring first half with RC only winning at intermission 28-24. RC came out on fire after half going on a 15-4 run.  My big worry seems to be RC is starting off slow and that will eventually put us in a big hole as the season wears on.  Roanoke is off until the weekend where they play in the Salisbury tournament.

Quote from: rmc1982 on October 23, 2025, 02:05:26 PMThey scouted us well and exposed our weaknesses and exploited them- good for them. Then they got beat the next game because the other team didn't let that happen.

Catholic won the next game as well, the one against Roanoke. Catholic's loss was in the Elite 8 to the national champ.

Don't remind me of that. A tough loss in OT when Roanoke was up 19 points in the second half....... :-\

Quote from: Macon on May 27, 2025, 04:32:00 PMAs to their basketball front, not having a coach this time of year has to be playing havoc for recruiting and even returning players.  Quite a possible downfall for a program that was in Final Four just a year ago.

I wouldn't be surprsied to hear that a good amount of thier players aren't coming back.  They have no head coach and their school might not be running too much longer.

Wow Guilford will look a lot different this next year.  I wonder if they'll keep up their success (like RMC does with head coaching changes) or if they'll get worse.

Quote from: Tigerfan on March 20, 2025, 10:00:08 AMH-SC needs an athletic, powerful rebounder and defender to complement Fernald.  Roanoke loses McClary, a really big loss, but will otherwise be intact.  Lynchburg returns 4 starters.  If VWU gets Deveaux back (not sure if he uses a medical redshirt for 23-24 season), they will have 4 starters back.  Tom Palombo always seems to find talent, but he sure does have a lot to replace.

I'm rooting for anybody except NYU.  3 of 5 starters and 5 of top 7 are grad student transfers.  With the Covid extra year ending with season, this shouldn't be an issue in the future, but it sure gives the large D3 universities with established grad schools an advantage.  I'd do the same thing in NYU's shoes, but I prefer the "home grown" talent.

RC defintely out performed where everyone thought they would be.  The season ended on a sour note though when you're up 19 in the second half and lose but still just to be there was awesome. McClary had a great season and will defintely be missed.  RC had a player who would've started but tore something in his arm and missed the entire season, I'm hoping he comes back next year (he was a senior).  Either way RC should be pretty competitive.  RMC will be the front runner next year, like they almost always are.

I do agree with the other post above that was disappointed in with RMC and HSC's finishes.  I thought at least one would get near the final four, but they still had great seasons. To leave on a bright note VWU won the ECAC championship (basically seems like it was the NIT) against Salisbury 74-50.

Quote from: y_jack_lok on March 08, 2025, 08:46:50 PMRMC no match for Catholic tonight, losing 79-67. The Jackets trailed by 20 in the first half and by 17 at halftime. Catholic had RMC's defenses figured out and executed well against them. They also defend very well and did a good job on Jabril Robinson who was disrupted from running the offense as he normally does. Keishawn Pulley, Jr. also had an off night everywhere except the free throw line. The Jackets were unable to get the deficit below double digits and are not a team accustomed to making late game comeback efforts from that far back.

It was another great season for the Jackets. Congrats on all the achievements.

Two ODAC teams in the Sweet Sixteen.

H-SC advances to the with an 81-75 win over Pitt Bradford.

Roanoke downs CNU 77-75. Joshua McClary the hero again with a late made jumper with 4 seconds left. CNU unable to convert on its last shot.

Roanoke seems to be set on making games close, but I'll take a win against a great team.  Roanoke has a even tougher task this Friday against Catholic, the team that took out Randolph Macon. This season has been Roanoke's best season in a really long time.

One team we haven't mentioned is Virginia Wesleyan.  Apparently they're in what I think is a NIT type tournament(ECAC Tourney) where they're the #1 team.  They won on Saturday against Franciscan University and then won again today against McDaniel college. They play Saturday in the ECAC championship against Salisbury University.

Quote from: y_jack_lok on March 07, 2025, 06:10:59 PMI was going back and forth between the Roanoke and Guilford games. RC was trailing Pfeiffer and GC was trailing Berry. Roanoke was able to pull off the comeback and down Pfeiffer 71-70 on two free throws by Joshua McClary with 4.6 seconds remaining. Guilford, unfortunately, couldn't do the same. They tied the game at 74 with 1:32 remaining, but Berry was able to regain the lead and hold on to win 80-77.

RMC has no problem with Westfield State, winning 82-48.

H-SC can pull the ODAC to 3-1 on the day if they down Bryn Athyn.

HSC dominated Bryn Athyn winning 102-66

Roanoke squeaked by Pfeiffer after getting in deep trouble. Roanoke was down 18 at one point in the second half and came back to pull it off.  Roanoke takes on a really tough CNU team tomorrow at 6:30. CNU won 101-75 today over John Jay College.

Quote from: Tigerfan on March 07, 2025, 10:14:09 AMGame Day! Good luck to the Quakers, Jackets, Maroons and TIGERS this weekend.

It would be awesome to have all 4 teams advance.  Roanoke takes on a tough Pfeiffer team who seems to be peaking at the right time.RC needs a win it has been awhile since we won a game in the tourney.

Quote from: Tigerfan on March 02, 2025, 03:36:49 PMMissed free throws are going to take the Maroons down.
My friends and I were talking about this during the game today (I was there).

RC 7 of 17, GC 15 of 16

Yep that will lose it for you. I'm happy we got there but sucks to lose it.  Guilford was the better team today. Most of us said almost all season that the ODAC race was between 5 teams (HSC, RMC, Roanoke, VWU and Guilford) and it's only fitting that the 5th seed won it all. Should be interesting how many teams the ODAC gets in and where they will be playing at. Go Maroons!

Quote from: Tigerfan on March 01, 2025, 04:53:24 PMThe ODAC needs to address the poor quality of officiating in the league.

I think officiating overall has gotten better since I started following D3 basketball 25 years ago. What is and isn't a foul is more clearly defined now that it was 10-15 years ago. As a result, it seems that fewer fouls are being called and officials aren't noticed as much. The "let them play" mentality, when taken to the extreme, however, can result in the officials affecting the game just as much, though differently, than when they are whistle happy. That seemed to me to be the case today in RMC vs Guilford.

It's hilarious ya'll are talking about officials because that's who I have a problem with in the Roanoke OT win today.  Officials weren't too bad in the first half and Roanoke took at 15 point lead.  It felt and looked like the beginning of the 2nd half they were going to call a lot more fouls which they did.  Foul count was 8-3 with Roanoke committing the 8 fouls at the beginning of the 2nd half and Lynchburg got back into the game. From there RC was either tied with LC or had the lead. RC was up 2 with about 30 seconds left and got called for a foul in the back court. Lynchburg then made 2 FTs and the game went into overtime.

In overtime Lynchburg would take a 4 point lead with about 50 seconds left. From there Roanoke would steal the game (at this point is was only a 2 point Lynchburg lead) by hitting a 3 with 18 seconds left (on the same exact play that beat Lynchburg at Lynchburg).  From there Lynchburg would miss a shot and have to foul and Roanoke would knock down 2 FTs to seal it.

Roanoke plays a great Guilford team tomorrow who's looking for revenge after the last time that we met.  Roanoke has not held the ODAC title since 2000.  Coach Nunley has never won the ODAC title but has been in the title game 2 times (once with Roanoke, once with Randolph), here's hoping the 3rd time is the lucky charm.

Quote from: Brian Hamilton on February 26, 2025, 10:22:49 PMNo, Roanoke plays Lynchburg.  Bracket is set.  It doesn't reseed.  Guilford plays Macon.

Thanks definitely some confusion on my end. Lynchburg will be ready on Saturday, they should've beat us in the regular season (we came back down 10 with a minute left). Roanoke better be ready to play.
