Very interesting!  I had no idea it had been 30 years since seeing that category, would have thought more like 10-15 years.  Thank you, Greg!

Quote from: NCC2010 on November 18, 2025, 01:06:13 PMTo USee's prior post about the ever expanding All-CCIW selections, there were 16 first teamers on each offense and defense.  Up from 12 each back in 2010.  2nd team is about the same as it was then. No issue with it just pointing out the increase in selections.

Until recently there was a category for honorable mention.  I have no idea when that disappeared, but suspect that some of the players in 1st and 2nd teams would have moved down to that category if it existed.  The awards were also shared among players from 8 institutions/teams until the return of Carroll in 2016 and addition of Wash U in 2018, so now shared among 10 teams.  Probably evens out a bit.  Truly an honor to be awarded 1st or 2nd team CCIW!

Quote from: Nitzermania on November 16, 2025, 05:21:35 PMAs a Wheaton fan, I hoped for but did not expect to receive a first round game against the UMAC champion, Crown.  I sense the bracket creators gave that as an offering with the downside of playing the #2 team in the NPI, Wartburg, the following week.  I'm hoping that Wheaton on a good day, healing up from some injuries, can compete with the Knights!

Tough road for Wheaton. One game at a time.

Yep.  Can't even look past Crown

Quote from: ncc_fan on November 11, 2025, 05:22:38 PMWell then, why IS WashU soon to be a CCIW football excommunicatus?  I've never heard a good reason.

look harder....if you know, you know.

Like NCC fan, I would love to understand this issue... where exactly could we look harder?  Could you point us toward a resource or just say it plainly?  I don't sense any strong grievance toward WashU football (unlike Normie-led Titan teams) from other CCIW schools.

As we enter the final week of the regular season and scoreboard watching takes on a higher priority, I am wondering what a Wheaton fan should be rooting for, assuming they beat NPU next Saturday (never assume of course...).  As Wheaton is currently ranked #27 in the NPI (per D3 Datacast), is it possible they could rise to #24 or higher and receive a first round bye?  I am thinking that anything that could improve their NPI score would help.  Under that category would be Augie beating WashU (away win vs. home win).  Otherwise, one would root for teams ranked higher on the NPI to lose, without the team that wins vaulting over Wheaton to have a higher NPI number, correct?  In that category I am thinking Wheaton would hope for:

UW-OshKosh    >  UW Whitewater
Maryville      >  Trinity
Coe            >  Central
Johns Hopkins  >  F & M

Also possibilities would be Adrian > Alma and Depauw > Wabash, but those could be in the vault scenario where a win for those teams would propel their NPI #/ranking over Wheaton with another strong, quality win.  Are there other games to be watching?

Curious to hear what others think.

My son plays for Wheaton, he vows that the locker room was definitely used by more than one person as a toilet, that there were "pools" of urine throughout one of the rooms and that the whole locker room smelled awful.  This occurred during the 1st half, so it was encountered by the team at halftime.  It was assumed (no certainty of course) that this had been done by some of the NCC alumni screaming obscenities at the team as they went in at halftime.  Anyway, my son would say that someone urinating all over the locker room is NOT a hoax.

Frequently read during the season, but never posted...just an old Wheaton Crusader!...here we go!  :)  Any news on a Wheaton scrimmage this past weekend?  Was it the usual Wabash warmup?  Anyone hear what happened to Charlie Velling (RB) and Nic O'Neal (DL) from last year?  Odd that two major contributors to a Wheaton football team, upperclassmen at that, don't return...slightly reminiscent of 1988?  That's just not Wheatonesque!

Nitzer-

Welcome to the board. There is a summary of the scrimmage on the ncac page by bb#16. Velling left school and isn't playing anywhere. Don't know about oneal. Albion gave up almost 300 ids rushing to Butler last weekend. I wonder what Rocky will do?

Wow... Nitz has joined the group.  Now we'll get some more in-depth perspective from the offensive side of the ball.  Good to see you here.

Guess I should have used a better nom de plume, eh Mugsy?  Way too obvious.  Still, have wondered for years who USee could be...have judged he must have been a defensive player, perhaps a linebacker, from the early to mid 90s???  Scratching my head on why Charlie Velling doesn't return...grades?  Never connected with the team?  Searching for life perspective?  Just waiting for Rocky to be gone to have 2 years as feature RB?  Or just never really a believer in Swider fooball?
Agree USee--looking forward to what Rocky AND THE REST OF THE O-LINE, OTHER BLOCKERS, ETC. can do this week and the next 9+ with the ground game!  CCIW game of the week definitely goes to Augie vs. Central...go Vikes!  Isn't it great to have a few few weeks of brotherhood, cheer for each other, before the meat of the season REALLY starts!
