Actually, due to tiebreakers Hamline is the 3 seed and Gustavus is the 4 - so I predict that St. Thomas will win the tournament since they don't have to face Roiger.

UST 6 - Gustavus 2
Hamline 2 - Olaf 1

UST 8 - Hamline 5
Olaf 8 - Gustavus 3 (Gustavus Eliminated)

Olaf 9 - Hamline 4 (Hamline Eliminated)

UST 13 - Olaf 3

let's see how wrong I can be...

i played for ust last year so i'm sure things have changed but you shouldn't take ripon for granted.  They had a guy throw a no-hitter last year in regionals against St. Olaf - A team that had a legitimate power and speed guy in Schmeising.  And, they had Stevens Point eliminated (And I think we all know how point ended up doing last year) until their coach made a bone head move and tried to save pitching in the 9th.  The were up 10-6 and gave up 5 runs, i believe 3 of them with 2 outs.  If Ripon returned anything of the team they had last year, they are pretty good.

Man - no love for Steven's Point this week.  With a record of 221-10 you'd think they'd move up more than three spots.

i used to play for st. thomas and roiger always does seem to pitch really well against us.  He used to be sort of a quirky junkballin lefty.  I was at the game yesterday and he definately is bringing it harder than he used to.  Still, his game is control and groundballs - think tom glavine

Oh. And BJ played like a man on a mission from God.  Absolutely gutsy performance.

i was at the game (obviously).

Started off great - everybody hitting everything and the Toms got out to a big lead.  The crowd was going nuts.  It looked like UST was gonna run away with it early.

THEN came the ticky tack foul parade.  I'm not sure who wrote it, but whoever it was they were exactly right.  The MIAC is CLEARLY a much more physical league than many others and, as such, our teams play a bruising brand of basketball.

The Toms lost for 3 reasons last night.

#1 - Horrible shooting.  Especially because the BV defense was far from lock down.  UST missed open j after open j.

#2 - completely outrebounded.  Part of this, though, was because of #3.

#3 - Very, very, tightly called game.  I will not blame the refs.  I never have and never will.  The reffing style was just very silly.  It was as if they were scared someone was going to break a nail.  A seriously overofficiated game in my mind - both ways.  That said, both BV's ability to adapt to the officiating and the aggressive nature of UST meant that BV benefited more from this type of crew.  I am not saying they were bad.  All you can ever hope for is consistency.  These refs were consistent - but consistent in calling very weak fouls.

For example, the foul called on Lonnie late in the game was touch at best, 35 feet from the hoop, with 8 left on the shot clock.  Who makes that call? Answer: consistent refs who call touch fouls.

Still, a great effort by BV in a hostile environment and a good learning experience for the Tommies.  They should be pretty good in years to come.

Aloha, which means hello and goodbye.

Hello, because I am here; goodbye because in about an hour I will begin my quest into drunken revelry leading up to tomorrow nights game (it is a thirsty thursday with no class and an NCAA tourney game tomorrow, life is good at UST)

i agree with the awards almost exactly although my purple blood would have liked to see Al "Dreads in yo' face" McCoy on the All D team.

As far as predictions for tomorrow go - I can predict a few things.

1 - I have converted a couple of VERY fare weather fans into coming WITHOUT ipods or cell phones; so I predict they will cheer.

2 - I predict that BV's "you have fat girls" will be utterly useless and untrue.

3 - I predict that with a name like the Beavers - cheers should be easy to come by... especially if any of their guys are sporting beards.

4 - The UST head cheerleader will do 6, count em, 6 crazy jump kicks at the end of a routine.

5 - Lonnie d's up Wagner, Viau takes advantage of (judging from the limited film on youtube) slower forwards and posts, Al gets the crowd into it (sold out I'm told - thank god), and Scott and Nicolai keep their heads on and hit double digits.

6 - Tommies try to get the ball up and down the floor

7 - They succeed in accomplishing point 6.

8 - UST 77 - BVU 65

mafia - Spring Break is in a week and half - I know for a fact that the tanning beds have been in constant use.

they should be out in force.

sorry LC, misread your post - I get what you mean - judging by your team's depth at the post (4 guys, about?) that could cause us a little trouble.  We go three deep at the post (Baker, Eicher, The Real McCoy) and could use Shimek, a good defender, if we needed to.

You mentioned that BV would prefer a slower tempo game because of the post play.  Is pressure or quick tempo a problem for the Beavs?  Or were you just saying that, all things considered, against UST a lower tempo would be better?

You better believe that we'll be able to think of some chants against a team like the beavers - the most noble of creatures  ;D

I agree TH4L... I'd put Lonnie on Wagner and see how he does, and if he's scoring I'd have Lonnie brush him back with the heat.

I really (don't want to eat my words) don't think UST is that soft under the bucket - Eicher is a solid, and Al is a ferocious, defender.

LC - if the beavers want to get runnin up and down the court it may work into the tommies advantage as UST *CAN* be deep if it needs to be.

I have absolutely no idea who that guy was... but I was one row behind him under the basket cheering him upward and onward all day.

The question is, was he funnier than our cheerleader who does those kicks???  ???

I have wondered why Baket starts ever since last year when he started against LAX because Ike was sick.

Maybe its just to get the other center feeling secure before Al "insert terrifying nickname" McCoy comes up and messes with their chi?

Lonnie hasn't pitched because he's d'n folks up in the ncaa tournament.
