Crash:

I think you and I are on the same page most of the time. I would dearly pay for a good video cast. However, too often you end up paying for an unmanned camera with audio limited to background noise. When this has happend to me; I go nuts.  ;D

Millington is set up for a good video cast. The press box has very good high-speed internet, a high vantage point and clear site lines. Let's hope they take advantage of it and produce a quality video cast.

The CNU/SU weekend set earlier this year had both games on live video.  There were 3 cameras each manned + live audio broadcast.  At the USA South tournament had 1 camera manned with live audio and nothing was charged.  I was just taken back to see what it was going to cost for us to watch the games.  If the quality of the video and audio is good then it will be well worth it.

To me CNU has to be the favorite by far.  SU has been on this stage twice now, but I am not sure if they have the horses at every position to beat CNU.  Right not SSU is playing good enough to get in the dance and I would not put it passed them to make a run at this,  looks like Piedmont could be the sleeper for the USA South teams.....Should be good baseball for 4 days, looks like the weather will cooperate....

Please tell me if I am wrong about this, but it looks like the South Region games will have live stats and video for the duration of the tournament in Millington.  I clicked on the video feed to see which video player would be used on my computer.  It's going to cost $7.99 a game to watch or $9.99 for the month of watching games.  Does anyone else think this is nuts??  Maybe I am just looking at this wrong.....

Flood gates open for the Hornets as they practically start drowning.  Coach A should have gone to Scallion earlier.....looks like SU is out coached, and played tonight!!

I'm not one bit concerned about tomorrow....They might have done that to CNU, but Averett was at home not at Bridgeforth.....SU will win and clinch tomorrow, Claudio has pitched in games that have had higher implications than this, he will be ready and so will the rest of the lineup.  Averett should be starting Mitchell (LEFTY).  SU as a team is hitting .394 vs. lefty with 6 players in the lineup batting over .400....I know that these numbers are just an indication of what has happened but personally I feel comfortable enough to know that SU will win.

SU Clinches half of the regular season title with win today over AU.  Coach Anderson will send Vince Claudio to the bump to complete the sweep and win the title outright.  Van Sickler wrapped up the Pitcher of the Year today with another conference win.  He also went 3-4 at the plate with 2 bombs.  This is a good thing as Gregs bat is going to be needed this coming week at the conference tournament.  Beall is staying consistent at the plate (3-4) as the SU lineup rolled through AU pitching staff giving them 9 runs earned.  Tomorrow should be a big day at Bridgeforth Field.  It's always nice to win the title on your home field.....

Catfish- I would have to agree that Van Sickler and Brashears would be average on most accounts with their tools.  Van Sickler will have a tough chance getting drafted as a pitcher, he would have to be looked at as a utility player.  I would be hard pressed to say that Brashears is average on Fielding and Running.  He is equal to anyone in the country here, there has not been a ball hit to center in the last 2 years that he has not been able to track down.  I will have to agree that his arm is average and might be his biggest deterent to getting drafted.
As an SU fan I hope that they get a good look to continue their careers.

Have to agree this 3 camera video feed from CNU is very nice.  I think that USA South Conference Tournament needs to do the same for all of their games.  It brings a lot of exposure to the conference and D3 baseball.  So far in todays game it looks more like a pitchers duel than yesterdays game.....

SU does what it needs to do today.  One win away from the #1 seed in the conference tournament  Surprised that Van Sickler did not throw today, I will never question Coach Anderson.  Vince struggled, but the rest of the pen did what they needed to do to win.  SU sticks stayed consistent today as they have all season, looks like tomorow could be another big day for the Hornets.  Rumor has it, Van Sickler did not throw today because he threw 6 innings earlier this week.

In reading the game notes for the Southern Virginia and SU game tonight, it looks like Coach Rob Harris has dismissed Dominic Chappell from the team.  I am hoping that this roster move shakes up the guys to get a "W" tonight.  The big question now is who is going to run the show??  The 2 options to me are Eugene Edwards or Freshman Avery Green.  Looking at the stats Avery can score the ball better then Eugene, but I don't think we need a scoring guard.  We need someone who can get the ball to Kline, Bryan and Dudley is scoring positions.  Things from an internal perspective are looking up for the guys; let's get it done on the floor.

Between now and Christmas break the Hornets play a D-1 opponent in William and Mary (who took Syracuse to the wire

Hear that Coach K?  Get the Tribe on the schedule next year!  What a great experience that would be.

GO CAPTAINS!

The Hornets usually play 1 D-1 a season.  For you guys in the Newport area, you could get some good games as well as good crowds.  CNU could play Hampton at the Crown.   I know a lot of people say a game like that will prepare you for conference games, I think it is more for the experience like you said.

SU Hoops quite possibly could have hit rock bottom tonight.  The have fallen to 1-6 overall and 0-4 vs. the ODAC.  Tonight vs. UMW we were up by as many as 13 in the first half in which we were leading by 4 at intermission.  Going into the 2nd half I felt comfortable that we could bring this one home.  That's when the Terrell Owens show, I mean Dominic Chappell show started.  This kid should be known as T.O. for a while, as he had 9 turnovers in a game for the second time this season. And 26 for the season compared to 10 assists.  As the second half and overtime wore on I could hear from the SU staff that they are not thrilled in the pg position.  I have heard of pitcher by committee in baseball, Harris might want to start doing pg by committee to see who can cut the mustard.  Thank goodness Dudley, Kline and Bryan showed up.  Mitch had another double-double, Brandon hit some 3 balls and Kevin had 20 and 9.
But until Rob Harris finds a pg it is going to be a long season for the Hornets.  Between now and Christmas break the Hornets play a D-1 opponent in William and Mary (who took Syracuse to the wire), Virginia Wesleyan (6-0 ranked #12) and Southern Virginia, which is the only team that looks like a good chance to win.  Hopefully they have a good practice tomorrow and can get going again on Dec. 1 and get this month behind them.

SU opened up the other night against #3 ranked EMU, for the most part this game looked like the first game of the season from both teams.  SU came out with a lot of intensity to start the game, but committed 19 turnovers in the first half and another 11 in the second half.  EMU used these turnovers to get 34 points.  I don't care if you are playing a high school team, you can't win with 30 turnovers.  In the past SU has had some strong guard play from the PG but not right now.  With no true PG or one that wants the responsibility to handle the rock in pressure spots the Hornets could be in for a long season.  Mitch Dudley did a nice job on preseason All American Todd Phillips, from my observation he will not be on that first team ballot come March.  He is a good player, but in order to be on that list you are great and I did see this in him.  Kevin Kline and Brandon Bryan need to assert themselves more for the Hornets on the offensive end.  Coach Rob Harris should sit down newbie Dominic Chappell and remind him that almost double-doubles are a good thing if it is 10 pts and 10 assists.  But to have 9 pts and 9 turnovers defeats the purpose of production on the floor.  Hope the players and staff get this figured out soon because it does not get any easier.  The Hornets have another tough test on Friday night in Gettysburg against #2 Randolph Macon.  I guess you can say somewhat "Welcome to the ODAC!!"

I would like to congratulate Kevin Brashears and Greg Van Sickler for making First Team All American tonight on d3baseball.com.  They have worked extremely hard over the last 2 seasons and now they have some impressive hardware to show for it.  The only other first team winner from school is Jeremy Schutt, so these two have put themselves in a category all over their own.    SU also had a big day with All Region rankings:  Anderson was named coach of the year, Van Sickler Player of the Year, with Brashears and Scallion rounding out the first team.   Van Dusseldorp was named 2nd team and Jesse Henry and Yocum on honorable mention.  Seems like the Hornets have some good karma right now as they are preparing to head northwest.  See you in Appleton guys.

I also wanted to say congrats to Justin Franklin of Ferrum on first team All American.

Like I have stated in the past, I graduated from SU back when Geoff Williams and Jeremy Schutt were playing.  That was the best SU had ever been in baseball until now.  To be honest with you, if you look at the SU over all sports scene, we truly have nothing to brag about other than this sport. Football has won what 5 games combined over the last 4 seasons. I never stated that we were the only team to go back to back from the South I was just stating that SU caught a lot of grief for their lack of schedule and once again in a regional setting they were capable of going 4-0.  I also understand that its more like 99.9% of the guys playing this coming weekend will not play professional baseball.

I can't quite figure out how Heidelberg University and Johns Hopkins are playing vs each other in the first round.  Do they seed the games in Appleton like they do in regionals?
Any predictions on All Americans?  Looks like the Kahn kid from Hopkins might be National Player of the Year.
