A lot more talent in Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro area than all of Wisconsin.  They can fuel all of their D2 programs, Iowa and Wisconsin as Gophers do not get the best ones, and the top D3's in the state, St. John's, St. Thomas, and rest of MIAC.  One sample score from a HS border battle 42-3 Minnetonka over Stevens Point.  This is a clear example of how two of the largest schools in both states match up against each other with talent.

WI Rapds was ok last year and came close against a powerful Wayzata team...closer than score indicated.  If I'm not mistaken, Somerset also beat a bit larger school than them who was state champ a couple year's ago, two years in a row.  Menomonie used to beat up some Minni schools too. Hudson over Farmington this year, etc., etc.   Minni and WI are close, IMO, talent and team wise.  Kenosha Bradford against Eden Prairie would be a good matchup.

UWW v. EC.

Early turnovers really sucked the wind out of the Blugolds.  EC was unable to consistently get a push off tackle or contain defenders to the inside to allow backs to get to the corner, nor was EC able to stretch the field with verticle passes to help open up the running game.  It's hard to get a sense for how good EC's QB's and receivers are when there is so much pressure on the QB coming from the edges.  Either the QB(s) is getting blown up right after throwing the ball or he is getting flushed out of the pocket and having to make passes w/out setting his feet.

Defensively, UWW did a great job of getting on and staying on blocks and smothering backs in the flats.

dependable guy waiting in the wings that Whitewater has in "Double A" - Antwan Anderson. Is this going to be Antwan Anderson's year to continue the trend vs EC? Will Saturday also be freshman Michael Pirtle's coming out party? He's only had 5 carries in 1 game (68 yards - 1TD/13.8 avg). However, in that one game he showed a glimps that he's another Coppage in waiting.

I'm sure a couple teams in the north woods would be willing to have Levi Johnson back in the area if you're not going to use him!

Wondering if any of you would know the answer, or where to find it.  What are the rules for medical redshirt?  Is there a certain time limit when a player becomes ineligible?  For instance, a player would injure himself this last game and the season is half over, are they still eligible?  No reason...just curious.

We use 'redshirt' but I believe the NCAA refers to it as a Hardship Waiver.  Injury/illness must occur before the completion of the 1st half of the season.  The can get injured between the last game of the first half of the season and the next game kicking off the second half and still be eligible to apply for a Hardship.  After granted a Hardship by the conference or NCAA, the player can still practice/rehab without loosing a year (10 semesters or 15 quarters to start and finish playing).

Do a search for the NCAA Division III manual for exact info.

Arlin Frank.  He was a heck of a player.

what's the name of the OG that played around the same time about 6 ft 300lb  was it shulenburg or something like that.  Man I hated playing D aginst RF back then.  OL coming out in a 4 point stance. Playing D line sucked on those days.

Don't know but their lines were good, as were their fullbacks.  That was during the era Point played the 8 year seniors.  Let's just say the Governor of California isn't the only one who liked juice with his breakfast.

danimal--though he would not tell you, Kestrel is responsible for the vintage films available at UWRF. He managed that project, as well as having been the one guy most responsible for notifying coaches of recruiting prospects at UWRF since about  1970. He is an unsung hero in UWRF football since the Farley days.

That's great!  Gotta love people like that behind the scenes.  Very important resource.

*IN REPLY TO DII/DIII RECRUITING & UWRF FILMS

From reading a few pages pages back about the NSIC seemingly having more impact signing WI prospects, I think the growing popularity of recruiting sites and message boards also has had an impact (esspecially Wissports).  Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but my guess is prospects like having their name mentioned as being recruiting by scholarship able schools and eventually signing with such a school.

The WIAC is at a bit of a disadvantage, as I don't think they can comment on recruits until they're enrolled and and possibly not until they're actually attending school.  So a recruit can get press if they receive a scholarship from Upper Iowa or Concorida, but not get the same type of presse if they decide to pass on a scholie and attend Stout, a school that would probably beat 1/2 the schools in the NSIC.

It's my understanding DII signees get anywhere from 0 to $5,000 (1/2 ride---only a few get this much) in the 24 scholie limit NSIC. I wouldn't doubt the average schollie player gets $2,000-$2,500 a year.  If St. Cloud has a hypothetical $15,000 (tuition, room/board, etc) cost and UWL is let's say $12,000 (tuition, room/board, etc).  I'd be educating recruits a lot about costs being roughly a push.

 I just love newbie's!   ;) :-*

Seriously, Welcome Gentlemen.  It is always great having new blood on the boards even if you think it's organizational layout is lacking.   :)

We believe in quality over quantity, although I admit I'm a bit lacking in that department.

Thanks for the welcome.

Sorry to ask, but how do I create a thread within the WIAC forum only?
1. OH MY.......you must be.....gasp!....A MAN!!!   :D

2.  Now if there had been a Stout thread....just maybe.....
1) Not a real one!
2) Does Stout still have a football team?  I thought they dropped around the same time as Supe-town. Just tryin' to get the Stouters riled up.
3) Although I'm a cheesehead and fan of pretty much every team in WI, I have to go on record that I really don't like the color purple.  Sorry UWW, reminds me too much of the MN Vikings.

You just get the opposite problem on other boards.  You get three or four different threads all having the same discussion, usually involving the same people, so nothing is in one location.  Pick your poison. I like this way better.

And, you are free to create new threads. Anyone can do it.  The only rule in the Terms and Conditions is you can't have a thread to talk just about one team.

I frequented the NSIC one for a while and found it pretty good.  The topic lets you know if you wanna bother and yep, it's usually the same people.  Maybe we just don't have the interest and number of posters needed to support having different thread topics.

I can't think of why, other than it being a rule, you can't have a thread about one team, such as: "Outlook for UWEC '10-'11 Football."  Then posters would add opinions, ask questions, etc. on the Blugolds.  Another example, I'd like to start a thread on coach O'Grady.  I can imagine conversation would be about him and eventually veer into speculation about who may or should be interested in becoming the next RF coach.

Sorry to ask, but how do I create a thread within the WIAC forum only?

Was DE from UW-RF --Woody Fangmeier???

No, and it bugs me that I can't come up with his name.  6'4, 6'5, 270 or so...started at RF likely around '87 or so.

It's too bad this board doesn't allow for the creation of different threads to be created within each conference page.  It seems like there are five different conversations going on all at once.  My guess is this is detracting from having fruitful conversations and is ultimately driving people away from posting/reading.

Check out DII's board if you wanna see what I mean.  Each conference has a way to start a different thread about an area of interest having to do with that specific conference.

I enjoy the board, but...

The Archives section of the UWRF library has film of games dating back to the 1950's, and  much of it is in amazingly good shape. While the teams of that era could not compete with today's, there were many individual "oldtimers" who were clearly as talented as anyone playing today.

P.S. Films of these games can be converted to a DVD format for a fee that covers cost and postage. Virtually all games from 1970 to the present are available, with the exception of the 1977 season (film of every game has deteriorated to an unusable state).

THE best player I went against back in the day was a DT/DE for UWRF and played HS at New Richmond...tough due, good guy too...believe he's now a chiropracter somewhere in NW Wisconsin.  I want a DVD or two.

Danimal, St. Thomas is definitely well on its way to the mountain top.  For example, its game day program vs UWRF mentioned that five 5th year seniors (don't redshirt/grayshirt at a private school, remember? Too costly!) are starting for them and that four Division I players have transferred in this year alone. Starting RG and MLB came from U of M, I believe.

One of the transfers is an OL from the Badgers, went to HS at Cretin.  St. Thomas would be tough to pass up.  Enthusiastic coach, new-really nice facilities, and a top-notch education and job prospects after.  Financial aid and scholies I'm sure are cutting the gap, closing the gap, or eliminating any gap w/the WIAC.
